  1. Hi Jvhuff and Welcome to the Forum. Most restaurants do Not have a separate preparation area and that is where the risk comes in. The first question you should ask is if there is a prep area and decide from there if you will be safe. Good luck. Colleen
  2. Hi Bellvie, I hope you know that figs have a laxative effect and it sounds like you ate a lot of them. They will cause cramping and send you to the bathroom very quickly. Usually figs, like shredded cheese, is dusted with cellulose powder to prevent sticking together. Colleen
  3. Wow POP. You are certainly going in the right direction. You do know that a tiny amount of people don't have the genes but have dx'd Celiac Disease. This could be YOU, just a thought. Your Doctor sounds like he's totally on board now and that's great. Keep us posted. Colleen
  4. Hi Graindamaged and Welcome to the Forum. I'm glad your Doctor is doing some more testing. Also, you may be Celiac and have an additional health issue. Are you taking an anti-inflammatory? There are also foods you can eat to fight inflammation. Do a quick google and you'll find lists of foods. Otherwise I think you just have to wait on testing. ...
  5. Hi Kalokairi, and Welcome to the Forum. If you have searched the DH form you have probably come across posts by Squirmingitch. I know from Squirmy that if the Dermatologist does a biopsy you must be eating gluten and the biopsy in Next to an active lesion, not the lesion itself. It sounds like you are having a horrible time with this and Im so sorry...
  6. Patience Wendy. You'll never get this under control if your all over the place. Breath deep and say, I will not judge until two months from today. SAY IT!!!!!
  7. And I usually just bake my sweet potato.....now Ski has me thinking about the finer points of sweet potatoes and their many representations....sheesh. It's pretty sad when you have to take notes on living life off of a Forum. But I'm so glad you guys are here to guide me through my own foggy brain. Colleen
  8. My, 2 years so far, recovery took many stages. Some of us here were 25-30 years un-diagnosed so our recovery has been long and on-going. For me personally, the pain from eating every meal diminished first. Over the weeks and months migraines slowed down, skin sensitivity was more tolerable, body and joint pain became better. Over a year into it my brain...
  9. Wendy, Glad to hear you are giving it a shot. You have learned so much already and the corn intolerance is very difficult to deal with (just ask Barty) and so many processed foods have corn deriviitives. I'm not eating anything processed right now either (different reason) so we can do this together Colleen
  10. Those people need to know that this is not a quick fix. It takes months and possibly years to keep seeing improvements. You will begin to notice things that you didn't even know were adding to the sickness improve. Just make sure you don't have any underlying issues that may need additional if not temporary medical attention. I don't recall from your...
  11. Wendy, Why not consider just dropping all processed foods for now. You don't know that rice and beans are a problem for you. Many of us can't eat a lot of processed foods. I get some cookies once in a blue moon but I try to keep it all one ingredient food choices. This is much easier to do than cutting out items that you don't know if you have a problem...
  12. Have you changed appropriate Kitchen items ie: toaster, wooden items etc. Go over the Newbie 101 thread again. Also, you may still be healing. Did your endoscope show extensive damage? Are you taking a good probiotic? Hang in there, some things take longer to resolve if there has been more long term damage. Some of us still are seeing improvement over...
  13. O, I forgot I picked up some sweet potatoes the other day. I'm on it. Thanks for the reminder. Dinner tonight will be a Sweet Potato and.........something.
  14. I've been on the Histamine trial and my food is not fit to be apart of this thread. Although satisfying and good for me, it's just not pretty! Colleen
  15. Congratulation to YOU!!. Enjoy your celebration
  16. There is a variation to the on-line School thing. My son does this and he is in his Senior year. His School is an option to the City School System. He goes 2 hours a day and does additional work at home on-line. They are completely flexible with the program. For instance, when the kids get a job, they work with those hours and coordinate school work...
  17. Oh gosh, I almost forgot. There is a member, name is Anti-Soprano, and I believe she travels a lot for work. She could help you with the ins and outs of grabbing quick meals and meetings involving food etc. Shoot her a pm if you think she might be able to help. Colleen
  18. I always though 47 (yup, I'm that too) was halfway to dead. Thanks for the clarification Irish I will have to rethink things now...... I just wanted to add that an assignment like that sounds like a real career booster. I would try to go for sure, you have to get back in the game at some point and this sounds like your point!!! Colleen
  19. Hi Glux, In your initial post you mentioned Histamines. Have you considered doing a trial for a histamine intolerance? This could account for your itching. Many histamine blockers do not help this sufficiently. You can do a two week trial eating Histamine free (or as close as possible) to test it. Bananas and Chocolate have high histamines in them. ...
  20. Your personal information is only visible to you and the Administration of the Site. No others members can see it. Colleen
  21. An Endocrinologist is the Doctor who would handle the Thyroid. Hopefully your is fine.
  22. I believe all there products are gluten free. Many on here use these balms. I would look else where for the problem. Colleen
  23. I had to do a cardiac workup last year and I collapsed on the treadmill, had to go Nuclear. What a rush that is. Its over quickly though so either way you'll be fine.
  24. So....Hubs and I took his daughter out for our monthly dinner. She gets to choose restaurant (I had to put my foot down at Golden Corral, just ugh) and she chose Cheddar's. As usual I went prepared with snacks as we drive an hour away to meet her. I go through my usual routine, ask if this sauce or dressing contain gluten and the practices. The waitress...
  25. Simonsez, I'm glad we convinced you!!! Your health is too important to not do everything you can to feel better. Like Squirmy said, we are here to help you, listen to you and celebrate with you. Colleen
