  1. GIG or CDF are recognized for having accurate info and good support groups. I think that CSA is not as strong in terms of reliable information. If I were starting one, I would do a GIG one.
  2. Happy Easter!
  3. That is definitely the way to go. It is only two of us (no kids), but we do that. Invest in a couple permanent markers. Butters, mayos, cream cheese, etc. are ALL separate and are ALL labeled "gluten-free-Laura only" and "everyone else." It is like this at my parents, and my inlaws.
  4. LM, Hey, its all still good to know information and I am sure that it has helped someone out there! Who knows how it turned up? If I have my choice, I'll prefer to be a smart gluten free chocolate chip cookie...I'm craving those for some reason! Have a great weekend! Laura
  5. Note that this original thread is from 2004
  6. Dr. Cynthia Ruddert is a Celiac specialist in Atlanta, GA.
  7. Alison, No matter what animals are fed grain-wise, they are all safe for us in terms of being gluten free. Laura
  8. Due to the 2006 Food Labeling Law, companies are required to disclose if any of their sources are from wheat. So, unless it states wheat, the food starch is safe. Chances are, it is made from corn. (Corn is not an 8 main allergen, so it is not required to be labeled.) Further, Philly Cream Cheese (etc) is a brand of Kraft. Kraft is a company that goes...

  10. Miss M, we all care about you. I just hate that we are in this boat together (all of us). I feel blessed to have you all, as well. I just got back from another IV and a follow-up doctor's appt. They are adding another abx, to take part time. They hope that I won't have to go on IV abx, which I agreed. She is re-running some of the co-infections testing...
  11. Thanks for sharing this story! You are a celebrity By the way, you mention that she didn't use the latest statistics. Which are you referring to?
  12. I use Sundown and love it.
  13. Thanks for letting us know. Please keep us updated. Best wishes are going out to Sande!
  14. RWG---Best of luck. I hope that it provides some much needed answers for you. I've had multiple endos and colonoscopies...two of them were joint like yours. My last one was done at Johns Hopkins and he biopsied everything, in multiple sites: eosaphagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine. I didn't have any pain from the biopsies. Keep us updated...
  15. Incorrect. Only about 30% of the American population has one or both of the Celiac genes, HLA DQ2 or HLA DQ8. About 98% of all Celiacs has one or both of these genes. That is the latest research.
  16. "Two things stand out for me. First, is the ingredient "vinegar". My mom, who was diagnosed celiac 40 years ago, says she never eats anything with vinegar unless the exact source of the vinegar is lableled, such as "apple cider vinegar." So if you just see "vinegar", the source material is hidden. I myself got very sick the other night on a tuna salad...
  17. FYI: Title: Gastrointestinal pathology in children with Lyme disease Authors: Fried MD, Duray PH, Pietrucha D Source: JSTD 1996; 3:101-104 Abstract: Ten children between the ages of 8 and 19 with Lyme disease presented with chronic gastrointestinal symptoms. Biopsy evidence of inflammation was found in the stomach, duodenum, and colon. Pathologies...
  18. you could not pay me enough to eat at taco bell because of cross contamination.
  19. You want the Celiac PANEL ordered: Open Original Shared Link Serologic panel Of the commercially available serologic tests that aid in the diagnosis of celiac disease, no one test is ideal. Using multiple serologies increases the diagnostic yield. Therefore, in the United States, screening in patients with possible celiac disease should consist of...
  20. Yes- Through your doctor. They often use Prometheus Labs, and insurance is more likely to cover it since it is a lab they use often. The genes are HLA DQ2 and HLA DQ8. Tell your doc to run the Celiac gene panel through Prometheus Labs. I have an "inconclusive" diagnosis, but remain gluten free. I also had a dr. who "tried" to put me back on gluten...
  21. Every nutritionist, Celiac expert, food person, etc. states that meat is gluten free.
  22. Here's the link to companies that have clear labeling policies. I use this over "lists" because food labels can change...but using this, even if labels change, you can still make an informed decision: Open Original Shared Link
  23. There have been many discussions on this board about that and the answer is that no, meat does not contain gluten, even if it was grain fed.
  24. What is the range for the testing? What is "normal?"
  25. Rachel, I attended Auburn for graduate school, right after I finished my undergrad. I was there for two years, during which my mono/Celiac saga began. My original plans were to complete my PhD (thats why I was there!) but during my health problems, I decided to only get my masters. In the long run, I'm happy it worked out that way. Love Auburn!
