  1. There are articles in the recent "Living Without" magazine about celiac/gluten and neurological problems. https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid=7 check out the above link...might help some!
  2. i would recommend finding a knowledgable doctor in your area about celiac. often the best way is to contact a local support group and tell them your situation...they should be able to tell you who is good and who isn't! best of luck and happy to have you on our board!
  3. It really varies from doctor to doctor. I would say that yours is not educated about Celiac and would find a new one. You said, "I'm going gluten-free 1st of the year but if it makes a difference - I will insist that my general practitioner give me the blood test." This will be in vain, because you have to be eating gluten for the tests to be accurate...
  4. It is DEFINITELY worth a shot!!!!
  5. just because it doesn't say gluten free doesn't mean that it isn't. reading the labels is more important. and choc licquor is almost always fine. I dont think that would be a problem.
  6. farmgal, I just moved to Fairfax (dx'ed 2.5 years). There are not any GIG groups (a leading support group network, www.gluten.net) in the nova area. for the ROCK groups: Virginia Ashburn - Support Group Keith and Jamie Bird Tel: (703) 729-1122 rock@birdmk1.plus.com Dumfries - Support Group Contact: Melonie Katz Northern VA/Washington DC...
  7. Courtney, I agree with tarnalberry. There are other tests that are now more sensitive, including the tTG test, but, yes, these are still parts of the Celiac panel. To me, this indicates that your children have a problem with gluten! Good luck, Laura
  8. Welcome to the board! We are happy you have found us. This board is such a great resource. Read, read, read! And make sure you check out www.celiac.com, the parent site to this forum. There is a ton of information, as well as lists of ingredients. Many ice creams/milks are safe. The main problem would be, say, cookie dough ice cream, bc of the...

    ARCHIVED Annoyed With New Doctor

Corrine, I"m sorry that you have a doctor like this---how frustrating! There seem to be so many of them! Personally, I would recommend finding a new doctor. It is a pain, but worth it in the long run. Amazing that he ordered the Celiac panel....most docs don't get it. I have one who told me I didn't have a problem with gluten. Go figure. Good luck...
  12. hey sweetfudge, im soooo sorry. wow, what a bummer. it can be so frustrating... sounds like all of your possibilites are very possible. i have gotten horribly sick at both chick fil a and taco bell..I finally had to tell myself than any glutenings are just not worth it because I get sick...plus making flour things *can* be risky. I wish I could make...
  13. I would recommend having the FULL Celiac blood panel run again, to see if you are still reacting to gluten (i.e., if gluten is in your system somehow). If it is normal, you may have other problems (other food allergies/intolerances), or something else. Many of the symptoms are the same and overlap with Celiac and non-Celiac problems. Your first step...
  14. They are gluten free and have tested repeatedly to be so (in the USA). https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=1303 However, cross contamination is a large issue. I cannot eat them...I get sick. But in terms of the actual fry and testing through reputable labs, plus that GIG backs them, says that they are safe. I'm not sure what the other issue...
  15. FDA now requires every company to disclose any wheat, so wheat itself should be clearly listed if it is on there. Malt would prob be the next contender. Post the ingredients if you have them.
  16. Cassidy, Thanks so much for posting that information! I am sure it will help others....Research is so important. Interesting...because others have said that it can be. Laura
  17. Couple things: celiac is a patchy disease. the small intestine is like 22 feet long. to eat a tiny amount of gluten and biopsy is really like a needle/haystack. even eating normal amounts of gluten, all celiac experts admit that they can miss it. plus, ingesting gluten to a celiac is setting off the autoimmune system. the reason we go gluten free...

    ARCHIVED Celiac Sprue Physicians

Your best bet is often to contact a local Celiac Support Group and ask them for who they would AND wouldn't use.
  20. Moongirl, thanks so much for posting that helpful information!
  21. i just signed in (1120 am, et) with my email address. happy to be back. thanks for your hard work, scott.
  22. no problem. I knew you needed help, and i just wanted to make sure people could. if your doctor isn't helping you, i suggest you start looking for a new one. ask for recommendations from friends, etc. good luck
  23. zachsmom, my favorite line that applies to this is: Patient "Doctor, it hurts when I do X" Doctor "Well, don't do X" Good luck. Your baby is lucky to have a mother like you. Just remember, just because they tested negative doesn't mean they don't have it, or that they aren't gluten sensitive (which would never show up on a traditional blood test...
