  1. I see that you are new to the board...how long have you been gluten free? if you have not been gluten free very long, your body might not have healed yet. you may be eating gluten free and still reacting, because you aren't back to normal yet. was the mayo safe from cross contamination? have you dipped in knives that have touched regular bread or other...
  2. What do you mean by "other cures" for Celiac? i.e, anything other than the current gluten free diet? just trying to clarify. there are three areas that I am aware of. 1. influence of zonulin, which closes the tight junctions (in Celiacs, the tight junctions are believed to be more open, and gluten passes through barrier cells, and then the autoimmune...
  3. Angie, like I said, the best way to know it to go to the pharmacy and talk to them face to face. The other option is that she/he didn't know, and were calling the companies to find out. Either way, I have found that face to face is better than on the phone, because then you are there and they have to help, in some way or another. your other option...
  4. Sonja, We are happy you have joined us! We have all been in your situation at some point and it is so frustrating. There are many diseases that have overlapping symptoms. I also recommend trying the gluten free diet. It can't hurt anything at this point! You may have non-Celiac gluten intolerance, which would not show up on the celiac panels. You...
  5. Where do you live? I recommend you find a local Celiac support group and ask for a knowledgable doctor about Celiac, who is up on recent methods. As someone who has dealt with doctors who knew nothing or incorrect info about Celiac, I am mad at myself that I wasted so long on some of them. I also recommend Dr. Green's book (he is a Celiac expert from...
  6. If you are not doing better by now, I would recommend having the full Celiac panel run again to see if your numbers are still high. If your numbers are still high, you might need to reassess how your diet is going. Often, members find that there were hidden sources of gluten. Very few (although, they are out there, and we have them on this board!!!) are...
  7. Onions are not a member of the nightshade family. Potatoes, peppers, eggplant, tomato, tobacco, etc. are members. Onions are not. Please do not post incorrect information. Open Original Shared Link Sherri, I don't have any good answers for you, but I hope you find some answers and stop the itching!!!!!
  8. Go to your pharmacy and ask to speak to the pharmacist. They will be able to either 1. answer your question or 2. call the companies and find out. Laura
  9. angie: the only way to know if it is gluten free or not is to read the label. if you have questions on certain ingredients, feel free to post and ask us. But there are different types, different labels, etc., and products can change ingredients with different batches....so make sure you read the label!!!!
  10. Spelt is WHEAT free but not GLUTEN FREE. She is NOT adhering to a strict gluten free diet! Do not eat anything she makes if she continues using it. Many uninformed but well meaning people say that spelt is safe, but it is not, not, not, not safe Open Original Shared Link Just because your mom has not overtly reacted to spelt does not mean that she...
  11. Technically, yes, that could be correct. But if all the brands of soda are safe, then you would be safe. They are very few sodas that are not.
  12. I think all the above are potentially correct and part of the puzzle. There is increased awareness, and more celiacs are speaking out and companies are realizing there is a market for their products. The internet has helped all of this. the low-carb diet and the focus on health is definitely and important aspect. in general, and although we aren...
  13. Interesting. Is it because you don't think they wouldn't order the blood tests? All you need is the testing, get a copy of your results, and never have to go back (that is what I have often done, because I have the innate ability to find crappy doctors) I don't blame you for wanting something to start with!!!!! I hope you find some answers and get better...
  14. Find a new doctor...you can even get the tests run by a pediatrician. it is more than three. full panel: Open Original Shared Link There is a particular series of blood tests called the ‘Celiac Panel”. These tests measure your immune system’s response to gluten in the food you eat. tTG-IgA or tissue transglutaminase-IgA AGA-IgG or Antigliadin IgG ...
  15. Jerry--I've forgotten, did you have the "traditional" bloodwork done? Also, I would be on the fence of saying if he is mainstream yet. (I tested positive via traditional bloodwork, and then later on used enterolab for their other food testing and gene testing). Some of the main Celiac experts: Dr. Green at Columbia and Dr. Fasano at UMD-B have all...
  16. Couple things you can do: 1. you don't need a doctor's diagnosis to keep your kids off gluten. You don't HAVE to have them do a biopsy. you might not be able to say "celiac" but gluten intolerance. You don't have to prove anything to a doctor...there are no prescriptions necessary. 2. What I would recommend doing is two fold. Find a doctor knowledgable...
  17. It will depend entirely on the lab and test run. Each lab has different protocol and numbers, so number X on one test does not necessarily correspond to number X on another. This is true for many blood tests, not just Celiac panels. Your best bet is to physically get the records yourself and keep a copy of them.
  18. This is incorrect. Please do not post factually incorrect information. https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-23106011054.bc
  19. it sounds like they did not give you enough medication---you should not have been that 'awake' at all. I have had four and have never been that awake. they are supposed to sedate you which 'puts you to sleep'. i'm sorry that you had such a bad experience!!!!!!!
  20. I believe it changed for eveyone...using your email instead of your user name, but still the same password.
  21. Rachel, I'm happy to hear your app't went well! I am sure you are exhausted!!!!!! Get some rest...we'll be here when you post
  22. There is an article in the latest "Living Without" about Neurological Issues and gluten ataxia. Very little is published about it, so I thought it was worth noting. There is also an article about gluten and autism.
