  1. Greytmom has it right. The DH test is a biopsy right next to the sore / rash but I'm not sure if I would jump to have it done on my face either. Those with DH often have positive blood tests for celiac disease so if you can get the doctor to add on more tests, it could be worth the hassle. These are the celiac disease blood tests: tTG IgA and tTG...
  2. Those soup pictures looked yummy - especially that second one! I've never been really good at making soup, but it looks like you did very well for just learning. Congrats! And I didn't mean to scare anyone away form noodles either. I was trying to joke about my failures with noodles - and failures they were. The first time I cooked gluten-free noodles...
  3. LOL I knew it! It's just my cooking abilities causing the occasional slime! Darn it! LOL
  4. Yah, I'm over two years gluten-free and I still have issues. Less than before but my hair still clumps out on occasion, my body swells, migraines happen and arthritis is annoying... It IS getting better though. Some of us just take a bit longer. I agree that a thyroid check is good idea. I have thyroiditis as well so I'm never completely sure which...
  5. I had constipation and gas too. The gas and bloating used to be pretty sore, I remember hanging my upper body with my bum in the air to put pressure on my belly to give me some relief... Needless to say, this was done without an audience. LOL Constipation can take some time to improve. Some people start to see improvement in the first few weeks but...
  6. I'm a bit of a denier too... okay, well I'm quite a good one. I tended to let things go until I can't ignore it anymore. Occasionally that works but I've dug myself some holes that I can't get out of by ignoring stuff. You would think I would be better now but I have two requisitions for blood tests and one for a hip Xray (arthritis?) that I've been ignoring...
  7. Club soda... I would not have thought of that. I'm not worried about missing out. I'm sure there will be plenty to eat. If not, I just can eat my desserts. That would work for me. LOL I tend to let my boys fill up on appetizers; I usually bring veggies or fruit, and a bag of chips. I figure it is a special occasion so if their diet suffers nutritionally...
  8. My in-laws are awesome. My SIL will read all labels and change her menu in order to keep me safe when we come over to eat. She normally does a great job of it and if she does make something I can't have, like a gravy, she will point it out to me so I don't get ill. Yes, I can hear a bit of an eye roll in her voice when I double check things or when...
  9. If the noodles are gluten-free, I would skip them completely. gluten-free rice noodles tend to get slimy when overcooked... Or maybe that's just my cooking skill shining through. LOL
  10. I would look into her medical records. If she had a positive blood test (tTG IgA, tTG IgG, DGP IgA, DGP IgG, EMA IgA) then she has celiac disease. If her total serum IgA was low, then her tTG IgA, DGP IgA, and EMA IgA tests will show a false negative and can not be used to diagnose her. Does she have a positive endoscopic biopsy (at least 6 samples taken...
  11. Dr Fasano, one of the leading celiac disease researchers has come up with this, widely accepted, criteria for diagnosing celiac disease. You need to meet 4 out of 5 of the criteria to be "officially" diagnosed with celiac disease: typical symptoms of celiac disease positivity of serum celiac disease immunoglobulin, A class autoantibodies at high titer...
  12. other causes (besides celiac disease) of a positive DGP IgA or DGP IgG seems to come up every few months around here. If you search the forum (using the green "Search Forum Via Google" box in the upper left corner of the screen) for DGP IgA causes, you'll find a bunch of other posts by people who went through a very similar thing as you. If more people...
  13. I'm not to worried about it - I just feel that 40 is too young to quake sometimes. LOL Coffee or sugar doesn't help it at all.. Hmph.
  14. (((HUGS))) Thyroid issues are so tough because you have to keep tweaking things, in long 6 week or so increments. It's not like celiac disease where you stop the gluten and eventually things get better. I was past my 10th month of treating my thyroid before I started feeling better... enduring poor health when the end is in sight is really hard on a soul...
  15. I'm glad you got in to see your endo. I have trembling but I doubt it is related to my thyroid issues. I've had this for years and it's actually become a bit worse after I began treating my hypothyroidism - it's almost embarrassing to hold a fork in front of people now. LOL
  16. I'm sorry for your loss. My father also died of pancreatic cancer, but it was many years ago. I do wonder if he was an undiagnosed celiac. I think it is wise that you avoid all gluten if you suspect celiac disease and are unable to test for it. Better safe than sorry. Welcome to the board.
  17. Dr Fasano, one of the leading researchers in celiac disease, states that for a celiac disease diagnosis you should meet 4 of the 5 following criteria: typical symptoms of celiac disease positivity of serum celiac disease immunoglobulin, A class autoantibodies at high titer human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DQ2 or DQ8 genotypes celiac enteropathy at the small...
  18. I've always thought that it seemed odd that normal was not a zero, or close to it, as well. I tend to suspect that celiac disease could be a problem if the DGP test is close to the cut-off. That cut-off seems too black and white to me. I had issues with thyroid tests that hovered at the top of the normal range or just out of it for about 15 years. ...
  19. Hmm. I don't know.... I think I'll stick to my rice pasta.... And yes, I actually enjoy pasta even though I'm a celiac. LOL
  20. Awesome! Just imagine where you might be in another 6 months!

How thoughtful. Thanks for sharing the story.
  22. Welcome to the board. There are quite a few celiacs around here who had no digestive issues at all. Neuropathies, ataxia, anxiety, anemia, are among a pretty big list of symptoms that a celiac can have. I've seen a few with MS like brain lesions too (search the forum for that). I had some stomach issues but headaches, fatigue, arthralgias, and fatigue...
  23. Your English is very good. Welcome to the board. The diseases most commonly associated with celiac disease is diabetes (type 1) and Hashimoto's thyroiditis, so I think you were smart to get checked for celiac disease. It is possible that your tests were falsely negative. Celiac tests, blood tests and the endoscopy, all miss up to 20% of celiacs...
  24. I don't believe high serum IgA is linked to Hashimoto's - I've never read that. It's possible that I might have missed that but I don't think so. If you have more info and sources on that, I would like to see it if you can share it. Hashimoto's can cause slightly elevated tTG IgA so perhaps that is what you are thinking of? Labs for tTG IgA, and...
