amybeth replied to erin24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
LOL!!! Try teaching in a room full of seventh graders all day!!! I admit, sometimes I just let them go and watch the kids wonder who smelled up the place ...Worst part? My classroom doesn't even have a window for ventilation!!!! Unfortunately in this field "free time" to leisurely go to the restroom is at a premium.....If I can make it... -

I've gone to Don Pablo's several times since I've gone gluten-free. They had menu items listed on-line. I've talked to the manager a couple of times while I was there. He asked very good questions and made me feel very comfortable -- giving recommendations, etc. -- however, I have had symptoms after every visit. I guess I got cross-contaminated from something...

amybeth replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
At this time of year, Meal Mart (part of Alle processing corp.) has frozen meals for Passover. They are available for a short time. The company has informed me that they are gluten-free. I found them at my local Acme. A contact # for the company is 718-894-2000, and they have a website if you google them. I emailed customer service and received a really... -
ARCHIVED Ignorant Server Of The Day
amybeth replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
OMG! Too funny (in a sad sort of way) LOL What is it about temperature? At Applebee's they assured me that anything cooked on their grille would be fine because it reaches 500 degrees. Didn't know gluten could be killed by heat!!! We have been laughing about that one for a while! -

amybeth replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are you going to the group at Abington Hospital in Willow Grove? If you are, make sure you buy out whatever the Grainless Baker brings with him. It's SO good. His carrot cake is AMAZING. and pizza crusts are good too (Italian thin crust) Haven't tried Mr. Ritts yet. Glad you asked. I'll be interested to see what people mention. -

ARCHIVED Mac Cosmetics
amybeth posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Last week I saw someone mention MAC lipstick as a potential source of being gluten-ed!! I suspect that this is the missing link I have been trying to figure out. I wear viva glam (#5, I think). I emailed MAC after I read the post, but I haven't heard back from them. Anyone know anything? Thanks! -

ARCHIVED Cheeseburger In Paradise
amybeth replied to savvvyseller's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Already recruiting friends to try it out this weekend at Oxford Valley. Thanks so much for the info. Anytime my fiance craves burgers we go to Cheeburger, Cheeburger and I "design" my own salad........ This will give us another option. Great! -
I make chicken salad and eat it on tortilla chips. Pretty good. Also do a lot of fruit and cheese for quick lunches. Sometimes I buy Dr. Schar's pizzarelli crackers and eat with a spag. sauce OR I buy wheat free crackers and Dietz and Watson deli meat to make pseudo-sandwiches.

ARCHIVED Mac And Cheese? Other Comfort Foods
amybeth replied to sillyyak's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
How do you reheat the Tinkyada without it being gross? Every time I've tried it backfires. I teach and having leftovers for lunch everyday would be great. Also, if you're looking for quick Amy's Organic has rice pasta mac and cheese...it's really really cheesy, but good in a pinch when I need comfort. -
I'd love to do something like this - what a great idea. Teaching, though, limits me to summer travel....

Thanks for the input. I'll check RC out. If anyone else has good/bad gluten-free experiences cruising, I would appreciate it. We're really looking forward to it, and the less I have to think about food, the better!!!!
