  1. maximoo, sorry I never got back here. I am in Coral Springs. Green Wave Cafe is on Broward Blvd near the turnpike. strictly gluten free place, it's vegan and raw, which I don't need, but there's no gluten on the premises so I know I'm good there. one of the few places i go to.
  2. hope your son feels better soon, that is awful. I have to agree here too. after years of eating out being my norm, to me now it's not worth the possibility of being sick for a week. I don't live in a bubble, but just don't eat unknown food out. I bring my food wherever I go. if I ever showed up anywhere without my nifty cooler bag, people would be puzzled...
  3. I am sorry to hear your family won't go gluten free. I made cookies once with my granddaughter when I was new to all this, and got really sick. at the time I thought if I didn't eat them I would be ok, but didn't know then about airborne flour and it getting everywhere. that was the point in time I cleaned out my kitchen, replaced most everything and took...
  4. Blessed Mommy, you brought a smile to my face saying you kiss your kids on the top of their head. I pick my grandkids up from school every Monday, and usually leave while they're eating dinner. very gluteny stuff. so when I am getting ready to go, one will usually say to the other, "grandma's coming to kiss your head goodbye".
  5. I wouldn't eat out in a place that has gluten in on the premises, period. I have had too many bad experiences, and being sick for an entire week is not worth it. there are several places that are completely gluten free, and I go there if I want to go out. if not, I will go with people for the social experience but I bring my own food. I have become a master...
  6. I cannot have gluten dairy or soy. many otc pills are made with dairy to bind them. i have found that gelcaps are usually made without, and sometimes I buy the children's liquid and up the dose.
  7. I agree with all the posters, and I also took my house gluten free. if others want gluten, they can have it out of the house, I have to know my own home is safe for me. I also replaced most of my kitchen tools, including pots and pans. he may also have other issues besides gluten. after my diagnosis I felt better, but not 100% I also am allergic to...
  8. I feed my dog gluten free food and treats, I just felt weird having him laying on me, and gluteny doggy kisses
  9. I drink coffee with no issues, but cannot drink tea, as I get cramps from tea
  10. I'm past menopause, and my issues are that I go to sleep with no problem at an appropriate time, but I get up somewhere around 3 AM and can't get back to sleep for hours, sometimes not until I am almost due to wake up. this really affects my days. I was always a great sleeper in my younger days, but now, it's a problem. things are no different than when I...
  11. I have the book by Sue Shepard, it's pretty clear and informational. I also have a hard time mentally giving up any more food. I did make some changes, but for the most part I am so restricted to begin with I didn't jump into it fully. I am having surgery in a few weeks for a broken toe, and the surgeon recommended it for other issues we discussed, like...
  12. I can't add much to these great and creative ideas, I just wanted to say congratulations!
  13. wow, something to dream about
  14. I teach at a gym and got some food from some of my students. they don't know me well, so I just thanked them and gave it away. anyone who knows me would never give me food, LOL
  15. hope you're feeling better and this passes quickly, sorry it happened. I also don't trust anything I didn't make and bring myself. I am super sensitive so I'd be down for days. just not worth it.
  16. back when I was still in the learning curve and accidentally got glutened, I got the neuro symptoms too. bad. felt like I couldn't put 2 words together. I agree with the others. i can't live like that. I don't eat anything I didn't make myself. period. it's a learning and life curve, but it's doable. I just celebrated my 2 year anniversary of finally knowing...
  17. you can wrap it in tin foil too, I've done that
  18. what a lovely thought. I too, wouldn't eat anything anyone else made for me in their kitchen. I do agree with getting tested if you haven't already.
  19. sorry you're having brain fog issues. I only get them when I am glutened, and thankfully haven't been glutened in a while, whew! hope you're feeling better soon
  20. still mourning having to give it up a few months ago, it was my only real happy treat
  21. so happy you got one and are playing with it. I did do the rice before I went away for Thanksgiving and it did work out well while I was away. the meals I brought were a life saver. let me know as you experiment with new things, we can compare notes and ideas.
  22. I love this thread. mostly I miss pizza. I used to really love it, but have given up trying to find decent pizza due to dairy and soy also. I miss chips ahoy cookies. ah how I loved those. and like many of you said, I miss the convenience of grabbing something on the go, or even just going to a restaurant for a night out.
  23. Beth, thanks, it's good to know I'm not alone. I have basically developed a fear of food. I really wish I didn't, but I did. for me to be as sick as I get with a glutening or any the other intolerances I have just scares me too much. I too am sick of being sick, at least now after so many years of being sick I know how not to let that happen.
  24. I really at heart don't want to be fanatical, but I don't. If I am bringing my own food, which I do wherever I go, I put a paper plate in with my meal. plastic silverware too. I know it can seem extreme, but it puts me at ease. and I feel if I am at ease, over stressing about unknown factors, then it's all good. no one anywhere has ever said a word. if...
