  1. I too went cold turkey. learned as much as I could about hidden gluten, things to look for in ingredients. I slowly started changing over my kitchen. everything I learned, I learned about here. read, read, read. good luck!
  2. thanks icelandgirl, yes, I use almond milk. I use it in my oatmeal every morning, and after that I start to bloat up. I couldn't imagine bloating up after what seemed like such a healthy breakfast. I will look into this, who knew??
  3. so sorry you're sick, pretty scary stuff. I thought Hunt's was safe, ugh
  4. thanks for the responses. I am going to do this, I have already cut out corn. not hard at all since I don't eat anything processed. so far so good, the low lying symptoms seem to be alleviating but I still feel belly bloating. I guess it's a process. thanks again
  5. that's wonderful! love victories
  6. this thread really hit home. I am now almost 2 years gluten dairy and soy free. over the past 2 years I have noticed reacting to foods that were originally ok. like lately I have had to give up chocolate, dark drinks like cola and tea, corn, and nut butters that were great for snacks. I think it's always a work in progress and we need to listen to our bodies...
  7. how about packing leftovers from your dinner, I always make extra, I never make enough for just one meal. I bake 6 sweet potatoes at a time, cooked veggies, always have grilled chicken, cooked burgers, packs of tuna on hand. a big salad can be made for several meals. then on my way out I pick enough to make a meal and off I go.
  8. I know it's hard when I go to someone's house, they offer to make special for me, I thank them but I do decline and bring my own. i know most would try, but it's all cross contaminated and I am way too sensitive. once I went to a friend's house and she was making potato pancakes, she made an entire load of them, then said to me, I'll make you a few without...
  9. I can't imagine having a child with this issue. in the past before I figured things out I could be sick up to a week after a glutening. hope your son feels better soon
  10. question for those who have had this and are very sensitive. did you react at all? I just saw it today and it's about half the price of what I usually get which is Eco Planet. that box says certified gluten-free and the Chex oatmeal just says gluten-free. Thanks in advance
  11. The New Vegan in Delray Beach FL is completely gluten, dairy and soy free. The Green Wave Cafe in Fort Lauderdale is gluten and dairy free, and mostly soy free. I live 30 minutes from each of these. but well worth the trip.
  12. this is so awesome to see, there is hope!! congrats
  13. I have been gluten free very strictly for almost 2 years. I know I am not getting glutened because I don't eat anything I didn't make myself, with the exception of a restaurant that is completely gluten, dairy and soy free. I found out 2 months after going gluten-free that I was allergic to dairy and soy. I felt so much better after cutting out gluten - my...
  14. I was searching through the forum as I had the same question, and saw this thread. I will read through. I was going to post my story here, but realized I might be hijacking, so I'll start a new thread with my question, thanks
  15. this is such a great thread and so what I needed to see right now. I have now been gluten, dairy and soy free for one year. I have gone through lots of learning over the past year, and now have settled into my reality. like what has already been said, I miss the days of spontaneous living, just heading out the door for the day, planning a weekend, etc. I...
  16. I've been away from here for a while, but I am interested as well. thanks..
  17. I react to dark sodas, but the light ones, like sprite I am fine with. I know they are gluten free. I also get sick from tea. go figure. these reactions are not my glutening reactions, I get stomach cramps, nausea and heartburn. it took me a while to figure it out, and I am glad I did.
  18. I wanted to post that my daughter and I made this last night for our Rosh Hashanah dinner tonight. she usually makes some kind of apple dessert, and this year is my first year gluten free so as each holiday comes along, it's a new thing to figure out. anyway, she found this recipe here and insisted that there is a dessert I can eat, so she came to my house...
  19. I don't know if you need to keep eating those foods for the test to be accurate. my allergist did skin tests and my food allergies came up right away fiercely.
  20. Hi, after I went gluten free in November I immediately started feeling better with many of my symptoms. I was however, still getting queasy feelings in my stomach from time to time. I cut out dairy, and replaced my milk with soy, and other products like yogurt with almond. I still was getting sick. so I went for allergy testing and found out I am allergic...
  21. when I first went gluten free I replaced many of the items with gluten-free forms like bread, pasta, snacks, etc. now, I don't have any of those, I just feel better eating cleaner. I know they are there if I want them which is nice, but I am happier without them oddly.
  22. I am in South Florida, would love to know if you get this going.
  23. I have glutenease with me all the time. I very rarely eat anything I didn't make myself, but every once in a rare while we go to a restaurant I have had good luck with. I always take one before the food comes. it just makes me feel better as a proactive defense.
  24. Thanks for the link to her bread and challah recipes, just what I was looking for
  25. I have been thinking the same thing about shifting more toward paleo, I have given up most substitutions for gluteny things like pasta, bread, etc. and have found that I am less bloated. we got a new bbq, so it's really easy and I am finding it a great way to eat.
