ARCHIVED Doctor's Note For My Trip?
julissa replied to Celtic Queen's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I just flew El Al to Israel and got stopped both ways due to the food in my carry on. they were going to take it away, I got out my note, and they let it go. I am so glad I had the note with me. -
Hello, I just got back and thought I'd let you know how it went. Mostly my meals were preplanned as I was with a group. The leader of the group was supposed to let any place we would be eating know about my needs. this took a few days to really start working, but once she got the hang of it, it was pretty good. The hotels generally have wonderful...

ARCHIVED What Do You Do At A Wedding?
julissa replied to Ciel121's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree to call the bride, caterer, etc, but always go prepared and never go hungry. I told everyone and was assured a meal, but they forgot. as I said earlier in this thread, my cousin who assured me forgot. so I scrambled to eat first and all was well. -

ARCHIVED Unsupportive Family Keeps Demanding I Attend Rehearsal Dinner.
julissa replied to rorenchan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I went to a wedding weekend out of town that I had to fly to and was told there would be food for me. there wasn't. I found out an hour before the rehearsal dinner that she forgot. so I found a place to get some food, ate first and had a great time. no one noticed I didn't eat. did the same thing for the wedding, ate first. I had a great time and brought... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed- Restaurant Help!
julissa replied to eblue's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I have found I really don't enjoy eating out for so many reasons, obviously the possibility of getting sick is one, but actually, the fear of getting sick really sucks the joy out of it for me. see if you can eat first, or if it's the kind of place you can bring something with you. I do this alot. since you are new to all this, I agree that it may be too... -
ARCHIVED The New Celiac Drug Is Out There
julissa replied to gatita's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was so relieved to finally know what was making me sick after so long trying to get answers, that I went gluten free joyfully, and still am joyful about it. I too miss spontaneity and being able to eat out confidently. I eat out rarely and it's always a crap shoot for me. I usually feel it's not worth it. -

ABQ, I never see posts as condescension, I see them as giving hope once you are in it longer and longer. -
ARCHIVED The New Celiac Drug Is Out There
julissa replied to gatita's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also would not want to take a drug that "fixes" me, but I would be very interested if it would minimize cc. I seem to be very sensitive and really have problems eating anything I didn't make myself, so for this reason, if it would allow me to eat out off a gluten free menu feeling more at ease, that would be worth it. over the weekend we went to celebrate... -
oy is right. when I first went gluten free, my granddaughter came over and we baked cookies. we handled the flour and kneaded it, and I it didn't ever enter into my mind that I could have gotten glutened since I never ate any. well, totally wrong, and I was indeed glutened. after that I converted my kitchen to a gluten free kitchen and never looked back...

julissa replied to julissa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut

ARCHIVED Gi And Allergist Appointments- Suggestions?
julissa replied to wmramsel's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
after my diagnosis I still had stomach issues, although thankfully at a much lower level, so I went to an allergist. I had some idea of what was bothering me, so she did food testing for that plus other common problem foods. she found a dairy and soy allergy, so I cut those out right away. do you have an idea of what foods may be problematic for your... -

ARCHIVED Help Please, Soy Allergy And Now Reacting To Foods I Eat Daily
julissa replied to julissa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
thanks, I did read further that organic might be helpful. I have dealt with everything up to now, but I have to be honest, this is just ridiculous and will really make things harder. but I will deal with it because I have no choice. -
ARCHIVED Help Please, Soy Allergy And Now Reacting To Foods I Eat Daily
julissa posted a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I was reading here to see if I could find some info, I know there is lots here about intolerances. I was diagnosed with soy and dairy allergies in January. I was feeling pretty great after eliminating them from my diet. going soy, dairy and gluten free wasn't hard, just had to redo my eating life. fast forward to now, almost 6 months later, and I feel... -

ARCHIVED Disney Thinks Bullying A Gluten-Free Kid Is Funny
julissa replied to carisima's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think there in no excuse for this, it is simply disgusting that they aired this. my kids and now my grandkids watch Disney, and we always thought Disney was a safe place for them to view shows. this shows me that it is absolutely not. just a tragic blow to those kids with these issues. -

ARCHIVED Brown Rice Flour Vs Rice
julissa replied to julissa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
thanks, I usually won't buy things that say they are made in a facility that processes soy, but I just checked a container of Gillian's breadcrumbs and it doesn't say anything about soy, just dedicated to gluten free. hmm, I guess you don't really know about facilities. I also wasn't able to handle the gluten-free chex cereals, and a bunch of other things... -
I have a question I hope someone can help me with. after my diagnosis I had food allergy testing and was tested for many things, rice was one of them, which showed no allergic reaction. (dairy and soy showed allergic). I have eaten rice a few times with no issues. now I see I am reacting to brown rice flour, it took me a while to figure this one out...
