  1. I hear you loud and clear and sympathize with you. when I first went gluten, dairy and soy free around Thanksgiving, eating out was too difficult for me because of the fear. now, I have been eating out maybe once a week at restaurants with gluten-free dedicated menus. so far so good. I still go through my instructions, explanations, letting them know I am...
  2. So I have been gluten free since November, and now dairy and soy free a few weeks. I find that people who I speak to have many varied reactions, from, "I could never do that", to "yes, I am gluten free too". just yesterday I met some friends for lunch at Whole Foods, they all ate off the salad bar, I didn't get anything. I don't trust salad bars, but I just...
  3. after going gluten free and feeling great, my first glutening came when I was baking cookies with my granddaughter. I would take every precaution if you are going to be in the same room as the chefs using regular flour.
  4. I find it just takes a little thought and a bit more work, when I go to someone's house, I take my own food. I can still socialize and most people don't even notice. when people come to my house, they get gluten-free food, again, most don't even notice.
  5. here's my take on this, and you may get people more experienced weighing in. if indeed you are not celiac, then it should be a personal choice to eat gluten. if you are non celiac gluten intolerant, you aren't doing damage to your intestines, you are getting some discomfort of symptoms. if you are okay getting sick, or whatever happens to you, then eat it...
  6. I had been told I had a negative biopsy last year, and am not celiac. I went gluten free in Nov and have felt great. my symptoms that I believe are from gluten are gone, those are being dizzy. I had also been getting nausea, so I am now going through testing for food allergies. my doc thinks I am celiac even with the negative biopsy. so last week I had...
  7. okay, I guess I am not supposed to ask about testing, I see the names have been removed. so sorry, I didn't know.
  8. just bumping this to see if anyone might answer. I have been doing some research and am looking into (Company Name Removed - They Spammed This Forum and are Banned) and entero. (Company Name Removed - They Spammed This Forum and are Banned) is right near my house. just looking for anyone's input.. thanks
  9. Davina, what test are you having? Just curious.
  10. hi porkchop, sorry, I have no answer for you, I just wanted to say that I am in a similar situation as your daughter. I looked up entero lab and the (Company Name Removed - They Spammed This Forum and are Banned) test online. they look promising. I would love to find out more and get any opinions from the more experienced here regarding tests like this. I...
  11. oh also, not sure if it's relevant, but I was told I have a hiatel hernia.
  12. I hope to get some advice about getting tested for sensitivity. Here's my story, I have had terrible symptoms for a little over a year of nausea/diarrhea/dizziness. I had no idea what it could be, went to several docs including 2 GI docs. was given every test that was recommended, including a biopsy. every result came back normal, nothing was wrong. okay...
  13. I am new here myself, welcome aboard! I echo your feelings as well. I feel like I have to be figuring out what's going on in my body, as no one else can. including 2 GI docs. the vertigo is also what scared me as well, and after doing my own research, thought it could be a gluten sensitivity. apparently I was tested for Celiac in January. the doc gave no...
  14. and a thank you to you for sharing your story. you are right, it does give me some hope. at this point in my journey which has just started a week before Thanksgiving, I can't see past all the restrictions I have. I can't imagine a normal life again. I feel like I am ruled by food, and I am afraid all the time when I am around gluten. it is beyond ruling...
  15. I just found this thread and am so happy. I am going in June with a group, and have been pretty nervous. thanks to everyone for great info!
  16. love this!
  17. so sorry, hope you're feeling better today
  18. I am so sorry about your friend's husband. I also think this post is fantastic, you and your dh really handled it well, what a great guy!
  19. so sorry that happened to you, feel better. yesterday I was out with my dh and friends and we saw a pizza place that had a sign that said gluten free pizza. so we went in and I asked about it. I saw flour all over the counter, and everything out in the open. I was told they have the gluten-free ingredients in another room, have a separate oven, and use...
  20. this is such a crazy thing, I don't get it at all. a nurse from my health insurance company called the other day to consult about some other issues I had been having. I told her about my going gluten free for the past 2 months, and how I felt worlds better. I had a colon biopsy earlier this year, and was told no celiac. she told me I should go to my doctor...
  21. I go under the premise that if you don't ask, no one can tell you no. depending on where I am going, I have been known to order a salad and top it with something I brought inconspiculously. I don't make a big deal, and no one really even notices. I feel that if a restaurant doesn't serve food I can eat, I take it upon myself to be safe.
  22. I completely agree and am baffled by this as well. I had a bag of walnuts from pre gluten-free shopping, and went to open it yesterday to use, it listed wheat in the ingredients. what? that is just crazy.
  23. I get home late several days a week, so what I have been doing is making my pasta or rice staple, and freezing individual portions. I also freeze individual portions of chicken, meatloaf, whatever I am making when I get a chance, so I can pull out components of a meal and just make a veggie. super quick meal.
  24. I am so sorry you went through all that. I am glad there are gluten free menus around, but I fear the education of those involved with getting them to us has not evolved. my husband loves to look for restaurants with gluten-free menus, but I am still afraid of the no control of it all. at least you may have raised some awareness there.
  25. for me, I get dizzy and nauseous. that's how I felt coming in to my gluten free life, and that's how I felt when I glutened myself. hope you keep feeling good!
