ARCHIVED Help With My Daughter's 5Th Birthday Cake!
Lisa replied to CeliacMommaX2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
King Arthur is pretty good, too. Not sure if it's dairy free, though. But I think the chocolate cake mixes are much better than the Vanilla mixes. -
ARCHIVED Eating Out In A Small Town
Lisa replied to homeschoolmama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I also live in a small town....6,000. Yeah, we are pretty small. We have one restaurant that will take the time to answer my questions and often make sauces and other options safe for me, the other just doesn't care after all these years and they have other patrons attempting to order gluten free. The waitresses know more than the kitchen staff. Two weeks... -

ARCHIVED Lance gluten-free Crackers
Lisa replied to mamaw's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Mamaw, where did you find the Lance crackers. I checked at WalMart and they were not there....hopefully, yet. In the south we call them Nabs, from the original Nabisco crackers. -

ARCHIVED Anyone Highly Air Sensitive To Wheat Here? Lifestyle/adjustment Questions
Lisa replied to Wheatless32's topic in Super Sensitive People
You said you were USA based. What is your county of origin? -
Correct, it does rinse off. If a gluten pan, I hand wash and then run it in the dishwasher. A sponge does not last more than a week in my sink, before it's tossed and a new one appears.,,,due to bacteria and germs, rather than gluten. Or use a plastic scrubber and run it in the dishwasher when you run it.

ARCHIVED Eggo gluten-free Waffles
Lisa replied to maximoo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Do you have a toaster oven? I have my own shelf. I think that they may be a bit gross in a micro. Try buttered and fried, like a grilled cheese. Maybe so? -
ARCHIVED Eggo gluten-free Waffles
Lisa replied to maximoo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No, I really don't. I toast them in my toaster oven and top with melting peanut butter and organic, unfiltered honey or jam. Unfortunately, we are down to ONE grocery store in our town and they do not carry Van's any longer. Gotta talk to the manager. -
ARCHIVED Grandmother And Celiacs Questions
Lisa replied to whitefairy30's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Whitefairy. You MAY have inherited a gene associated with Celiac from your family, but that does not mean that you will develop Celiac. But you should be aware. If you develop symptoms associated with Celiac, get some test done. If not, continue on. -
ARCHIVED Eggo gluten-free Waffles

Lisa replied to JazzyJake's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Whining is allowed. Sometime, it's just as easy as switching brands. Ancient Harvest Quinoa is gluten free (I cook mine in HerbOx chicken bouillon) Quaker Oatmeal has never bothered me, although there may be a risk of cross contamination Spanish Rice, is so easy to make - I never buy it prepared. Polenta - should be just corn. I love my grits Mango... -
ARCHIVED Carrabbas Updating gluten-free Menu
Lisa replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I applaud Carrabbas! They are adding some new exciting things to their menu. And, regarding gluten free pastas in restaurants....well, even at home it's mediocre. Why pay money for the same in a restaurant (ie. Olive Garden, yuck) There are so many other new options at their restaurant. It's nice to feel normal. Thanks Carrabbas! BTW - I have heard... -
ARCHIVED Van's Waffles Make Me Dizzy?
Lisa replied to Ms. Isley's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have eaten Van's waffles every day for many years. What do you put on the waffle? Perhaps a shared butter container or non gluten free syrup, shared jelly? Or perhaps, it was one of the other ingredients. Some times, we never find out. I would put them aside for some time and then try them again later. If they continue to bother you, maybe you can... -

ARCHIVED Marble Rolling Pins
Lisa replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Soap and water would be best and a dishwasher run if you think, but bleach is not needed. Bleach may kill some germs, but a good scrup would dislodge any gluten remaining.
