ARCHIVED Inhaling Gluten
Lisa replied to ronahc's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I feel that he is being obsessively cautious. You need to reclaim YOUR life. Gluten free is not that big a deal. I am questioning how he "feels like he has been glutened" by smelling oatmeal or pasta cooking. STAY on your diet. It is adaptable. for both your needs. I would recommend that you read as much as you are able on this site. It is a wealth... -
ARCHIVED Intolerance Or Allergy?
Lisa replied to elye's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Emily: This may sound very sophomoric, but I have always heard that an allergy can create the same symptoms, but not cause the villi damage. And an intolerance will kick off the autoimmune reaction that will cause the villi damage. -
ARCHIVED New, And Need Advice Please!
Lisa replied to little00blondie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello and welcome to our world. Since you have had a endo that screamed Celiac and you have had a positive dietary response...my bet is that you have your answer. I would suggest that you read as much as you can from this board. There are some very dedicated people, informed and very generous in their knowledge with their willingness to share. Gluten... -
ARCHIVED Pro-biotics
Lisa replied to Lisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Please excuse my stupidity!!!! It's called lactose, lactose, lactose. Several weeks ago, I tried to double up on the yogurt to get a little more calcium and I had a slight issue. I stopped the yogurt and all better. Laura, don't fuss at me. Lesson learned. Someone, please knock me in the head. I guess I subscribe to the "Jerry School of Denial"... -
ARCHIVED Pro-biotics
Lisa replied to Lisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks Angie: I have had the grilled veggies in the past with no issue although it may be a CC issue. This is a pretty heafty reaction, like pre-gluten free. Ingredience on the bottle appear gluten free, other than sillica and I don't know what that is. -
Do you take pro-biotics and how did you first react by taking them. I started two days ago and I have quite the arguement going on inside. They indicate that they are gluten free, but I definately have a gluten- like reaction. It's one of two thing, the probiotics or yesterdays lunch.( salad with grilled veggie and Newmans Dressing - the grilled veggies...

I don't think that oat should be an issue here.

ARCHIVED "rice Krispy" Looking Stool
Lisa replied to dally099's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is a very COMMON topic here and it generates no surprise other than an occasional...."Oh Yeah, that's me". Fatty stools float with perhaps some skim on the water. Your body is not able at the time to absorb fat and it is released and it just takes the direct route. To make you feel more comfortable, there is not one amongst us that does not... -

ARCHIVED Soft Drinks
Lisa replied to smilemaker's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Coke and Pepsi are gluten free, as well as diet coke and pepsi. There are some people who react to the carmel coloring, but it is not gluten related. I am not a coffee drinker and a good cold pepsi in the morning is a must for me. -
ARCHIVED Any Phd Chemists Out There?
Lisa replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
OK...Lisa's Theory: Perhaps it is not the musty smell that gives you relief, but the moisture that generates the odor. The basement floor would be more humid and cooler than the upper floors by holding moisture in the walls and floor. Your relief by the musty odor is an associative effect of the humidity. Much like holding a cool damp cloth... -
I have an issue with recommending certain supplements without medical impute. You never know what shoes someone is walking in. You don't know what interation may cause a problem. To make a certain recommendation is not responsible. We are not doctors. We are here to support those that ask about Celiac.

ARCHIVED Food For Thought
Lisa replied to nama shivaya's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Nama: I am sorry about your diagnosis. Perhaps you could tell us as to how your doctor came to that conclusion. Yes, there is a connection between MS and Celiac. Most of us have intestinal damage because of celiac, but it also can creep into other organs and settle in. I think that MS may knock on my door in my future years. It is in my family... -
WELL DUH!!!!! Now go get that hard-headed brother of yours. Hard-headedness is definately a genetic link. Glad that you're feeling well Jerry.

ARCHIVED Tomato Sauce Recipe For gluten-free Pasta Shapes
Lisa replied to Suzie-GFfamily's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Suzie: I don't know if this will work: Plain pasta sauce and cut it with some chicken broth, add a little milk or cream (don't boil after the milk). This might lighten up the flavor for you children. -
Betty, I may be wrong, but I seem to recall that they have a website, perhaps with a list of gluten free items. (from the back of my mind and a long time ago....)

ARCHIVED 17 Years Of Misery
Lisa replied to cat40's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am truly sorry for your years of misery. With you symptoms, gluten sounds like the likely culprit, with the confirmation from eliminating it from your diet. I would expect, with a strick gluten free diet you symptons will gradually subside. Remember, you have had 17 years of damage to your intestines and it will take some time for the healing. ... -
ARCHIVED Thinking About Having Another Baby
Lisa replied to Nantzie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Nanzie: I have two and they are on my avatar. They are 22 and 25. The 25, we are still subsidizing after 100,000 in college funds (apartment, utilities, food, clothes, books and A LOT of check fees and a whole lot of parking tickets at school, towing fees because she was OUT OF GAS....I can continue) Our 22, was married with a 20,000 wedding, is on...
