  1. Well.....I do not think diet (gluten, food intolerances) has anything to do with thyroid antibodies. Mine are always 2,000 to 4,000 with the lab range of anything over 35 being positive. I have no idea what causes them to fluctuate but as long as my TSH and is in range (between 1 and 3) I am feeling good. I have had. Hashi's for almost 20 years. Get...
  2. Make sure they take plenty of samples (like up to six) during the endoscopy. Your small intestine is vast. One or two samples may miss villi damage.
  3. One test is not enough! My TTG was less than 1 indicating a negative result. But my doctor ran a full celiac panel. Only one celiac test Gliadin Antibody (IGA) (Deamidated Peptide) was positive. My biopsy however, showed a Marsh Stage IIIB ( moderate to severe villi damage). You need a complete panel to rule out celiac disease. Here is a link to...
  4. I think it would help if you got copies of your tests and posted them. I do not trust anyone to give me a verbal response to any lab. People make mistakes. Sorry you are not feeling well.
  5. Welcome! Be sure to read the Newbie 101 thread which contains valuable tips (like coping with cross contamination). Here is the link: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/
  6. Consult with the GI. Talk to him or her about the value of celiac disease testing. I can not tell you if it is worth feeding bread to your son. That is a decision you can only make with your husband after some doctor consults. Consider asking about the genetic test. See if he has the genes for celiac disease. Over 30% of the population carries the...
  7. Wow, I am sorry that you are struggling with this! I do not really have the answers that you need. Let's hope that some of the other parents will chime in later and offer advice. You are right that toddlers put everything into their mouths. One of our members is a doctor and she kept getting glutened by her small children until she banned all gluten...
  8. Until he reaches his normal weight, I would avoid going out to eat. It will speed up healing. Every glutening causes a set back. He may not continue to vomit, but celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that can take weeks to calm down. He might be getting damage and you can not even tell (for example, bone damage). Each glutening may trigger an another...
  9. Do whatever is comfortable for you. I hang in the kitchen at my sister-in-laws when she is baking Christmas cookies, but her kitchen is large. I avoid the mixing part where there is a greater chance of flour being in the air. Rolling and cutting is pretty much contained to one area of her kitchen. I make sure that my food is not in the kitchen and that...
  10. Brush on oil of your choice. That is what you did in the olden days!
  11. Four days of being gluten free should be fine. Just eat the equivalent of two slices of bread per day until all testing is complete.
  12. I tried them years ago. They made me nauseous. Fortunately, I was married and it did not matter if I got pregnant, so into the trash they went. In fact, I had a hard time getting pregnant most likely due to celiac disease! Perhaps an IUD or implanted hormones? I did fine on transdermal creams for perimenopause symptoms.
  13. The tests IcelandGirl listed are specifically for the thyroid. Your endo may order other tests to rule out anything else. I have never seen an endo. My GP doctors have been good about managing my Hashi's, though it is important that you are educated as well. Here are my suggestions for your visit. Make sure your endo feels your thyroid. Ask him to...
  14. Consumer reports, if I recall, recommended California rice over other states for reduced arsenic levels. I am grain free (diabetes) but I still serve it. I do wash it. It is in apple juice too!
  15. It is hard to guess if you have celiac disease. It is easy to get a complete blood panel as any doctor can order it. The University of Chicago's celiac website has the list of tests that you can share with your doctor. Normally, celiac disease can manifest as a horribly, insanely itchy rash. I wish you well.
  16. Yes! And I blamed it initially on menopause and severe anemia (who can think when you are not getting enough oxygen to your brain?). But a little anxiety will hit me when I have been glutened. Let's face it, if you have celiac disease, you can be deficient in so many things! You will improve!
  17. Are you experiencing allergic reactions when you take the pill? I think they may use lactose as a binder and not casein (protein). You may just be reacting to the hormones which can make you nauseous, etc. Just something to consider.
  18. Tough to say, normally you would need to be eating gluten for 8 weeks in order to get an accurate blood test. Do you have celiac symptoms? Odds are that you do not have celiac disease, but then I had no clue that both my husband and I have celiac disease (I was diagnosed last year and he has been gluten free for 13 years). Our daughter tested negative...
  19. Hi! I think you just need to be patient and wait for the biopsy report. Obviously, you have some issues based on the information you provided, but biopsy can only reveal villi damage accurately. Did you have a complete celiac blood panel? Were they looking for celiac disease? How many biopsies did they take?
  20. Wow! I am going to test this out. The only bad thing is that most gluten-free pastas seem to harden when they are chilled. But I am willing to try rice! It is always good reheated. I will test with my meter. Right now, there is no way I can eat rice without a blood glucose spike!
  21. Only testing can determine a thyroid issue. See if your doctor can order the complete panel as ice has suggested. Take care!
  22. Gee, it is hard to see your kid suffering! Have you checked out the Newbie 101 tips under our "Coping" section? Little things like pet food or kisses can be cross contamination issue. Here is the link: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ I had lots of other food intolerances resulting from Celiac damage. Try keeping a journal...
  23. Better chance of finding it in a specialty retailer like Trader Joe's, Sprouts, Whole Foods, etc. Finding a gluten-free bakery is your best bet for freshness.
