Such a long post, Richard. I will have to read it when I have more time, but based on a skim, it looks good. Thanks for posting.

Hair loss is a very common symptom (read Dangerous Grains). There are several different kinds of hair loss, most of which are linked (except for male pattern baldness, which is genetically based). Nutrional deficencies will cause hair loss (common in celiacs), hypo and hyperthyroidism (linked to celiac) will cause hair loss, alopecia areata (an autoimmune...

Sorry you are sick. Some people have gotten sick from Vann's waffles too, so you might want to test those again in the future. But, check the packaging on those chips - some of the flavors made by that brand have 'not a gluten free product' in small letters by the nutrional info.

Thanks for input, Karen. And just as a side note, I called McD's and they couldn't tell me what processing removed the gluten, so you all were right. I have no problem admitting error, just repeating myself
-
I am sorry for flying off the handle yesterday. I don't think of myself as being defensive, rather annoyed. Its happened more than once on here where I feel like I am repeating myself and that irrtates me to no end. But that was yesterday, whatever, its said and done. I am also irritated by this entire situation as I am waiting to see what else...

Call McD's yourself then instead of lazily refuting my claims with no substantial input of your own. I called them last week; they are quite easy to get a hold of. Again, sorry for being snippy, but this discussion is irritating me, so I am done.

ARCHIVED Mcd's On Cnn.com About Gluten Free
bluelotus replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Publications & Publicity
You missed the 20+ page thread from last Monday obviously -
I spoke with McD's last week. They said that their supplier claims that the gluten is removed, so I am not blaming McD's - please don't make assumptions here, and I'll do the same for you - don't mean to get snippy but I have been writing about this topic and following it for awhile and get frustrated repeating myself. The supplier claims that frying...

Just emailed the author. I was pleasant but very condescending toward the doc. I hope it helps our cause.

Hi all, Just posted some info about this on another thread. The stuff said by the doctor interviewed for the article (link) is scary and inaccurate. 1) Just b/c someone with celiac didn't react to the fries does not mean that it is okay to keep eating them - some celiacs don't get physically ill from gluten and 2) the doc says the processing removes...

I scrolled through to see if anyone posted the chicago tribune version (google "celiac disease" and it comes up). This was a very frustrating article to read and I don't have time to email the author. Basically the doctor is quoted as saying "Well, if you haven't had problems eating them before, you don't need to stop eating them" and the doc also says...

ARCHIVED Hair Loss And Misscarraiges/baby Died With Anencephaly
bluelotus replied to jennifervan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am so sorry about everyone's loss - those of you that have lost a baby. That must be hard (I haven't tried yet, so I wouldn't know, but can imagine). About hair loss - yes!! As everyone has said, this is a very common symptom, even young children with celiac disease might have hair loss, not just women. I have been gluten-free for over a year... -
ARCHIVED Planters Peanuts Ok?
bluelotus replied to gointribal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been meaning to call Planters myself, just been busy. I think their cashews have made me sick. I was going to ask them about CC. -
I used to drive back and forth from Athens to Hot-lanta on the weekends to see my hubbie, now I am in ATL for good. No, the drive stinks. I hope they consider putting a rail in to connect the too. Sorry, kind of off topic.

ARCHIVED Rice Dream Mistake :(
bluelotus replied to julie5914's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm sorry you got sick. Right there with ya. I hate having to be so vigilant too, stupid CC and everything else.....drives me mad!! I hope you feel better soon.... -
ARCHIVED Enjoy Life Foods
bluelotus replied to CMCM's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love enjoy life b/c unlike others, it is egg and dairy free. So, I love all their cookies except the faux-oatmeal ones, but I never did like oatmeal anyway. I don't like their granola either. Their chocolate breakfast bars are good, good purse snack for emergencies. I love their plain and cinnamon bagels...very yummy if you toast them up (I defrost... -
A gastroenterologist probably will know the most about celiac disease, then maybe a nutrionist. However, a primary care physician should know a little and they can perform almost all the testing for celiac disease (your boyfriend needs to be eating gluten for the majority of these tests though, but based on your post, I am assuming he is). However, ignorant...

ARCHIVED New Brand
bluelotus replied to miamia's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kate, I haven't seen the brand, but there are two cookie brands I enjoy(ed) - Enjoy Life is one (free of all sorts of allergens too) and Pamela's is the other (I can't eat these now though since I can't tolerate eggs or casein). If you get a chance, check these out too....always nice to have a back up, in case they run out of your favs! -
ARCHIVED Mcd Fries 2: The Phone Calls :)
bluelotus replied to ryebaby0's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I spoke with a guy at McD's customer service named Ron on Tuesday. He said they had just gotten an internal memo. The oil used contained traces of wheat and dairy but the 'processing' removed these proteins from the oil. He said that nothing has changed and it has always been like this and the new laws required them to list the wheat and dairy. But, he... -
Yes, congrats. I too did the Royal Caribbean cruise. You can bring dried goods on board with you, including cereals, snacks, whatever. They tell you that the cabins don't have a fridge, but mine did (a mini-bar sort of thing, I took their non-perisables out and put in my soy milks - Silk makes juice box sized versions that don't have to be refrigerated...

ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries Not Safe?
bluelotus replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I only wish things were as simple as you make them appear. I had made a mention of a lawsuit, as a joke (see my sarcastic comment). I don't appreciate the comment that I want McD's money, I am quite happy with my own, thanks much. I don't even eat at McD's, so I couldn't be involved anyway. My point was that unless you are certain a product is gluten... -
ARCHIVED Have Contacted Lots Of Companies For Lists
bluelotus replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Tiredofdoctors, you rock! That's right girl, you kick some ass! I will be emailing them for you too (as promised in a different thread). These suckers won't know what hit 'em! -
I have had that symptom too, it was from gluten for me. Have you check your hand soaps and lotions? (if you use it on your hands, then eat, that stuff might be on your food). Also, if you touch your hair a lot, maybe you are using a hair product with gluten in it?? I think I remember someone here saying that carbon paper has wheat in it, so that might...

ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries Not Safe?
bluelotus replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
McD's, like Walmart, is a contraversial company. Though they both do some good for communities, I also know a lot of bad on both (particularly Walmart, though it has nothing to do with their food) - Sorry to compare walmart to McD's for any of you Walmart fans. I am also sorry that people are dogging a company that you worked for. However, you are incorrect... -
I wish that was my correction. I saw that below too, so I didn't correct them on that other information. Kudos to some other celiac though for correcting them too.
