  1. Good luck to you! That is what we ended up doing about three years ago, and I have kept everyone gluten free. My dd was the first to be diagnosed, then I had my two boys tested a few months later. Both were negative, but my oldest already had psoriasis, and my youngest would scream for an hour every morning, and had sandy, yellow stools. I figured they...
  2. If your husband is worried about cost, the diet can be done frugally with planning and organization. I'm a stay at home mom of four kids, and I feed us all gluten/dairy free for about $120 a week or less. And that includes a 10 year old who is quickly becoming and endless pit : ) I cook everything from scratch, and scour gluten free blogs for simple...
  3. Giving up dairy is what finally got rid of my headaches for good.....gluten free helped, but I would still get migraines now and then. Now I hardly ever get headaches at all. Dairy is a common cause of frequent headaches, it's hard to give up, but living with constant headaches is harder!
  4. There is more awareness now then there was in the past....I think a large part of it is due to the alarming rate that kids are being diagnosed with autism. More parents are searching for ways to help their kids get better, they research and discover that a gluten free diet is helping many kids. This in turn leads to their own self discovery of symptoms...
  5. I would definitely have a Celiac panel done again just to make sure she isn't getting gluten from the school meals. Also, my dd has been gluten free for 4 1/2 years now, and this is the first year she isn't tired all the time. Last year, we had alot of blood work done to try and find out where the fatigue was coming from...she would come home from school...
  6. I've always been a little bit leary of Envirokidz, just b/c they do make other products with wheat. Once in a while might be okay, but every day that little bit might start to add up. That happens to us alot with other products that are cc....once in a blue moon is fine, a few times a week equals trouble!
  7. Ha! I was just coming here to see if there was a post regarding Thanksgiving glutenings, mishaps, or just surviving t-day in general. It was just our little family...so not too much to cook. I made a vanilla cream pie, and the first attempt at tempering (sp?) my eggs didn't go so well, it tasted "eggy" and my cornstarch clumped up. Since it was just...
  8. We got sick from all varieties, but more so from the honey-nut. Which really bummed me out, b/c they are really good. But we are really, really sensitive. We eat plenty of other whole grains just fine, I make brown rice/sorghum bread every day. While I am annoyed at the situation, and don't think GM's manufacturing process for Chex is what it should...
  9. I just discovered BB's lip shimmers, I love them! I want one in each color.....they are moisturizing, and taste like peppermint
  10. Who knows then...I'm weird. I'll try them again at a later time, they are really good and a great staple to have on hand. Thanks.
  11. I understand that we always take a risk with any processed food.....and I accept that. I'm not going to raise a stink over it, and I'm happy that other people can eat them without a problem. I wouldn't want them to lose a new food b/c I'm super sensitive. I don't have a problem with companies who have products that do not contain any gluten ingredients...
  12. Thanks, now I'm not feeling like such a freak I do react to oats, even if they are gluten free. Darn oats....they are really good bars too. Oh well, I'm sure my neighbor will like them!
  13. I bought a few of these last week for the first time...and love them! The macadamia and apricot is really good, and I got them on sale for $1 each at Sprouts, so I was thrilled. But, here is my question. I am starting to feel like a freak who reacts to the most miniscule amount of gluten. Last night, I had a few heart palpatations, which I only get...
  14. Rant away....I'm still royally pissed off at Chex, lol. For months, I could not figure out what the heck was wrong with me or my dd. It got to where I couldn't tolerate any food without feeling queasy or having terrible heartburn, along with fun GI issues. My daughter was throwing tantrums, having headaches, sleeping right after school for the whole night...
  15. Oh man! I would see a doctor about that, just to be safe. Wonder what is up with Chex and why they are making so many sick? Perhaps more than 20ppm of gluten? That's what I think, after our experience. But maybe I'm just too cynical these days, after getting sick from products marked gluten free.
  16. Ooooh, this is fun! Loved reading all the responses. I know this has already been said, but it bears repeating. Using "like" for every other word is annoying as hell. But what is even more annoying? When it comes from a 35 year old woman trying to be cool and talk like her kids. Oh, and I'm not a big fan of "I know, right?" at the end of every...
  17. We have that problem here......for us, it can get pretty ugly. And, this is where my husband and I often conflict! I know how it feels to have out of control emotions after a glutening, so I let more slide. I draw the line when they hit a sibling, or are getting out of control. If that happens, they have to go to their room until they can calm down. Sometimes...
  18. Honestly, I'm not sure there is anything yet that is really like Cheezits or Goldfish. I haven't found any gluten free crackers that we like, and none that are geared towards kids.....Glutino crackers are okay, but they are so pricey for such a tiny bag I just can't buy them!!!! There are some good animal crackers out there though....Kinnikinnick makes...
  19. I agree....you should visit a doctor. Could you have had a seizure? Not to scare you, but seizures are common with Celiac, and they will totally wipe you out like that. I know for myself and my kids, gluten does make us extremely tired, but not to the point where we could sleep 30+ hours. Get yourself checked out, just to be on the safe side! Take care...
  20. We use Smart Balance w/flax oil, I get it at Walmart and it is casein free. I use that for adding to veggies or toast, etc. For baking, we use Earth Balance buttery sticks. They are really good for making frosting, using in cookies, etc. I actually like the taste of it better than butter now, which I never thought would happen
  21. Seems like lots of us were in the mood for gumbo! Made gumbo last week.....and used just potato starch for the roux. Turned out perfect, and super delicious. I have a question though....what sausage do you guys use? Sausage always seems to get me, but I think it's the MSG in it. Thanks!
  22. Oh no!!!! I would die....that just really, really stinks! Last year, my sister (who comes about every 3-4 years from Aus.) came to visit. I made a loaf of bread, and some beef stew. I know she was just tired and probably not really hungry...but she threw the slices of bread away! I actually considered for a brief second, picking the slices out of...
  23. At least you are finding out early, he can heal quickly and avoid any long term damage. I have one dd who is positive, but my other three children are also gluten intolerant. My yougest had reflux at birth, and I had to cut out gluten and dairy while breastfeeding. I kept her off gluten, b/c I wanted her most important developmental years to be disease...
  24. Maybe you could try some of the SCD recipes??? I was talking to a mom last night at my son's baseball game (she had gluten-free pretzels, and I pretty much ambushed her, lol) her son is on SCD, and she said the baked goods are really tasty. Most of them just involve almond flour, honey, and a few other simple ingredients. The almond flour is a bit...
  25. I'm not a big fan of those either. I really haven't found many packaged cookies I like. Kinnikinnick K-Toos are like oreos, I do like those. And the Kinnikinnick chocolate chip cookies are a bit like Chips Ahoy, but smaller. Also, the Enjoy Life snickerdoodles are okay...not spectacular, but okay. I used to never cook, and the biggest blessing to...
