  1. Actually, that isn't due to the new labeling law, its just manufacturer's trying to really cover their hindquarters. I don't know what it means. I would venture a guess it could mean something different from one factory to the next. At one, it could mean they combine the left over wheat containing stuff in the machinery with the new batch that doesn...
  2. I think a lot of people early in their gluten free transition are really not ready for a lot of foods yet. I know I'm very sensitive to corn. I'm going to give it a good 6-12 months before I try it again.
  3. Restaurants don't have to list ingredients at all. The FDA laws only apply to ingredients in processed foods you buy in stores. So they really probably haven't broken any actual laws. However, they'd still be subject to things like negligence and harm and false advertising caused under civil law. But I'm no lawyer. What about food prepared in restaurants...
  4. Well... the number of diseases associated wtih gluten intolerance damage is absolutely staggering. Cancer, autoimmune, gastro, esophogeal, stomach, RA, thyroid, nerve damage, diabetes, miscarriages... You might want to read "Dangerous Grains" and get some idea of what could be in store. I think the thing to think about is how sick do you want to be...
  5. Try some lactaid with your dairy, or lactose free dairy. If you react, then it must be casein. Or you can get testing from Enterolab.com.
  6. Could be withdrawls. Some doctors say that partly digested gluten protein resembles an opiate. (Milk proteins too)
  7. Seems like the press might be interested in this story. My brother is a News guy for a news station in NC. I sent him the "scoop". If he doesn't respond, I'll try to interest some other news outlets.
  8. You might want to try the SCD diet and see if that clears it up. I seem to be sensitive to far more stuff than I was and this is helping me figure out everything. One thing I've learned is that ignoring gas, diarrhea and stuff is bad. Those are symptoms. I'm terrible about ignoring symptoms. Otherwise, how about stopping the apples for awhile and...
  9. I've been toying with the idea of glutening myself just to see what happens. I've had some "sickness" and I wasn't sure if it was a glutening (or caseining) or just something else. I guess I'd better wait until after my Mom moves because right now, there's just too much stuff to be done to be optionally sick.
  10. Usually this happens to me when I'm pretty sick. I'd say keep looking for something in your diet. Maybe you've got a dairy intolerance too?
  11. I'm doing the SCD diet not just to calm down my gut but in the hopes of getting some of my autoimmune issues under control too. I am also casein intolerant. :\ But I've had a lot of improvement since going on SCD. www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info for more info.
  12. I found some good salad containers are these disposable baking pans. I don't dispose of them, I use them to tote my salads. They're flat and square, a little easier to cart than something round and bowl like perhaps. I know about the baggage, it must be horrible in NYC having to take public transport, especially if you're carting around a lot of...
  13. Oh! I just caught this reference to Biohealth and looked it up. It is in my town! I have a sneaking suspicion I might have some autoimmune disease brewing or something else causing me problems. These guys are good?
  14. I kind of skipped the whole intro part, for the most part, because I didn't have that much diarrhea. But every time I over do something my body tells me. I had chocolate yesterday and I've felt miserable ever since. Tired, headachy, and my stomach/intestines objected.
  15. Kitchenaid mixers are real workhorses. I've had mine for probably close to 20 years. Nice thing is you can buy all kinds of attachments and grind meat, stuff sausages, make ice cream and so on.
  16. LOL! Oh my, oh my. That is hilarious.
  17. If you don't want to mess with the doctors only to be told your negative again, you might want to check into enterolab.com. He gets results of gluten sensitivity (casein and others too) much ealier than blood tests do. I decided to go gluten free based upon a 2 week trial that made me feel like a different woman. But then afterwards I decided to get...
  18. No, I have been a lunch packer for so many years I can't imagine doing anything different. I usually take a salad for lunch. I get the pre-washed, bagged, baby lettuce mixes. Toss on goat cheese, proscuitto, greek olives, chicken breast, whatever I have available. Splash with olive oil and vinegar (which I keep in my desk drawer). I love my lunches...
  19. There are a few things that can cause brain fog like that. The ones I have experienced are: Low thyroid is one, any food intolerance, including dairy. You might try a diet like SCD that gets rid of a lot of the common foods people are intolerant to and see if that helps you. I do SCD but modified so I don't use dairy products because I'm intolerant to...
  20. I am in San Diego.
  21. Jackie, you are to be commended! You're more grown up than a lot of grown-ups I know. The bad news is, it doesn't get that much easier as you get older. People just don't understand or they think you're making it up or a little bit won't hurt. You can't really make them understand so it is best to not really even try. You know what you have to do...
  22. I eat basically fruit, veggies and meat with some oddities like coconut milk yogurt. Breakfast would be two chicken sausages (big ones). Lunch is usually a large salad with chicken breast and perhaps olives. Dinner is (this week) meat and squash or broccoli or something. Snacks are things like coconut milk yogurt or a piece of fresh fruit. I am...

  24. I make non-milk yogurts. Its fun. I use coconut milk and sometimes fruit. If I don't use the fruit, I add a little honey for the bacteria to eat. Basically you do it just like regular yogurt except if you want it to be firm you will have to add some gelatin (or pectin, I hear pectin is prefered) about 1 pkg of gelatin works for about a quart of yogurt...
  25. www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info www.pecanbread.com The diet author makes some pretty outrageous claims of curing Celiac disease, which I don't believe, but it sure is helping me get my gut under control. I'll take that!
