Hi Noob. Have you had your vitamin B12 and your iron levels checked? Might be worth looking at - mine were both low and I am sure that supplements really helped overcome the horrid anxiety I suffered around the time of diagnosis. Have a look at this link for more people's experiences. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/105599-b-vitamin-weirdness-does...

ARCHIVED Any Natural Cures For Trapped Wind, Left Sided Discomfort
cristiana posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Not a nice subject, but is there anything to take that will help deal with trapped wind? Since just before my diagnosis it was a real problem and now, having been recently glutened, the same feeling of trapped wind in the descending colon and sometimes the left side of my abdomen down from about tummy button level looks more distended than the right. It... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated /possible Other Sensitivities
cristiana replied to veryami1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi dillentantesteph, that's helpful. I too seem to be encountering new gastro problems too, not D neither C but since having been glutened (wheat in chocolate, why do they do that?) my problems with dairy has come back, I feel like I have trapped wind (left side pain, by groin). My nutritionalist thinks I need to take some probiotics as I have had to take... -
ARCHIVED Vertigo/peripheral Neuropathy
cristiana replied to dama444's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just wanted to chime in and say if this continues, it might be worth looking into to make sure it isn't caused by something else. Last summer I was suddenly struck with a type of vertigo - my arms and legs felt odd when I walked, I felt like I was walking on a ship's deck at sea. Very anxiety inducing. I really thought I was coming down with ataxia... -
The bathroom problem: a common problem post recovery it seems. The advice I have been given is to drink more liquids, eat more fruit and vegetables and exercise more. I guess the next bit of advice might be worth checking with your pharmacist or health care provider but I found that the magnesium supplements I took post-recovery helped things. I wasn...

ARCHIVED Amitryptyline (Elavil, Endep, Levate) For Nerve Pain
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thank you both for this extra advice. It is so appreciated. Re: glucose sugar levels,I have had various tests not all that long ago but maybe I ought to have one redone just in case. Meanwhile I had some accidental gluten today in piece of chocolate (why do they put it in chocolate?) so what with the sugar and the gluten and the caffeine I'm expecting... -
ARCHIVED Amitryptyline (Elavil, Endep, Levate) For Nerve Pain
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Irish Heart - hello again! As you can see I am still on the quest for nerve pain relief. I am definitely going to take your advice on board about the massage with my physio. I agree with you that a lot of nerve pain is probably attributed to fibromyalgia. In the UK although maybe someone reading this might disagree I feel people are not diagnosed with... -
ARCHIVED Amitryptyline (Elavil, Endep, Levate) For Nerve Pain
cristiana posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hello I have some nerve pain (at least, so far that is what the doctors the pain is) and am contemplating taking some sort of medication to help. It seems I might have had shingles without the rash after Christmas, but no one is sure if that is what is causing it especially with being an undiagnosed celiac for most of my life being in the mix. Spinal... -
ARCHIVED Healing The Nerve Pain - Foods To Eat, Foods To Avoid?
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, just to report back that it isn't nerve impingement, the MRI scans confirmed it, but according to the consultant, it sounds like it might be caused by 'something like shingles' and 'it sounds nervy'. If only the doctors could agree - three out of five think its nerve related, two think it could have been shingles that set it off (if only I had been... -
ARCHIVED Healing The Nerve Pain - Foods To Eat, Foods To Avoid?
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Kay - sounds like you and I went gluten free around the same time. I had such high hopes for an amazing transformation in my own health but it seems as soon as I have resolved one issue, another turns up! In my own case I do find heat and stress absolutely the worst thing but I got a lot of pain one day when I was preparing something cold from the freezer... -
ARCHIVED Healing The Nerve Pain - Foods To Eat, Foods To Avoid?
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thank you both. You don't know how much this is helping me because I am really struggling. IrishHeart, your experiences of pain being exacerbated by exercise and also contact with fabric reassures me that the doctors are on the right track with this. It is honestly the weirdest pain I have ever encountered, it is in a generalized area, nothing too specific... -
ARCHIVED Annoying Buzzing Sensation
cristiana replied to across's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry... this is not going to be very helpful but I was listening to the radio a couple of months ago and apparently this is quite a common sensation felt by people. They even gave it a name, but they didn't actually link it to celiac. I get this feeling in the small of my back sometimes, now when I come to think of it I have only really noticed it in the... -
ARCHIVED Healing The Nerve Pain - Foods To Eat, Foods To Avoid?
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Irish Heart – hope you see this. Just wanted to ask you a couple more questions, hope that is OK. Did you actually find anything other than food made your nerve pain worse? I am feeling a bit discouraged because I am noticing that when I do exercise the pain seems worse and then lingers for the rest of the day. And stress really makes things w... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Edinburgh
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Just back from our trip. Thought I would just share my findings in case of use to anyone in the future... Prezzos do a great gluten free risotto - there are several outlets, but if you visit their restaurant on North Bridge you will see it has the most amazing view of the New Town. Frankie and Benny's actually have a decent gluten-free menu, there... -
ARCHIVED "how Sensitive Are You?"
cristiana replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know about you but one of my problems pre-diagnosis was liver function test results that my doctor didn't like the look of. I often get the impression that people think I am taking this gluten-free diet too far but when I say that gluten affects my liver they don't say any more. -

Thanks for the warning. Maybe GFinDC is right about the wine instead! I think just at the moment I can more or less handle the pain, but I guess it is something to bear in mind if it gets worse, I hope it won't. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free In Blackpool
cristiana replied to soaps38's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Hi Soaps. Not sure if you are a British Celiac (Coeliac). If you are you will probably be aware that Frankie & Benny's do a gluten-free menu these days which has been a real lifesaver for me as I have children who enjoy eating there so now we can all eat when we go out. There does appear to be one in Blackpool - it has good reviews. Open... -
ARCHIVED Healing The Nerve Pain - Foods To Eat, Foods To Avoid?

GFinDC. Thank you so much for that recommendation, I see in that link they also say it helps with post shingles pain (Lyrica, not wine!). I google too much for my own good on websites looking for answers and I noticed someone said they took just one Lyrica tablet and the neuralgia went away! Now that's effective! Although it looks like one might have... -

IrishHeart... thank you so much. It is so good to know I'm not the only one, even more to know that it is behind you now. That gives me hope. Lidocaine patches - oddly enough, a friend of mine was prescribed them and she suggested I tried a box. Would you say best to put it on the spine where the neural path emerges or on the actual painful part itself... -
ARCHIVED Healing The Nerve Pain - Foods To Eat, Foods To Avoid?
cristiana posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It has been a year now since I went gluten-free. The neuropathy in my hands and feet is pretty much gone. However I now have a different type of odd sensation - pain under my left arm and in the chest/breast area, which sometimes almost feels like an internal itch, hard to describe. Around the time this first struck I also got a burning sensation that ran... -
ARCHIVED Neurological Connections To Celiac
cristiana replied to gemerald's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm just wondering if some of your new symptoms could be down to your developing a new type of migraine. There are so many different types of migraine out there. -
We're off to Edinburgh soon. This'll be the longest trip I've taken since one last year to France which was pretty disastrous in terms of accidental glutening. Hoping for better this time. Any Scottish celiacs out there or recent travellers who can recommend some good value restaurants before I resort to packing a five day picnic, which is something I...

ARCHIVED Internal Abdominal Itching, And Uncertain Diagnosis
cristiana replied to doya's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I hope your chiropractor can shed some light on things. As for me, thanks for asking, well, still internal itch, on hip now and chest area again, left side. Seems to be exacerbated by tight clothes, certain movement, stress... doctors can't agree on what it is so I am not getting any treatment. Awaiting some scan results in case it is nerve impingement...- 11 replies

ARCHIVED Internal Abdominal Itching, And Uncertain Diagnosis

Dolphin I sympathise, we are in the same situation here regarding referrals, you have to go through a GP. Is there any chance you could ask to be referred to another GI and go privately, if necessary, to speed you up the list?- 11 replies

ARCHIVED Internal Abdominal Itching, And Uncertain Diagnosis
cristiana replied to doya's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hello again. I think you should be congratulated on finding out what you have about the fructose intolerance. It is sometimes quite hard to track down what is causing these things. Have the doctors you have seen so far sent you for any particular tests? Particularly, have they ever done an endoscopy? Also is the back pain to the back of where...- 11 replies
