  1. Well, Bev pretty much covered the drinks. Have fun--and don't do anything I wouldn't do
  2. I think that is a great idea! Hopefully others will be interested and we can get the ball rolling
  3. He may notice that initally on the gluten-free diet, still wanting to sleep quite a bit. The first month or so, I felt like I couldn't get enough sleep. I believe it was my body in a healing mode. Everyone's stories of healing are different. I think that his sleep pattern will eventualy improve--it's hard to say how long that will take. As he begins...
  4. Hi Jen--try this link: Open Original Shared Link
  5. Yes--I'll let you know!--I really have not eaten out at all since my dx. except in Sept. for my son's 21st birthday. But I am determined that this spring/summer I am going to get away! As you know, I love that whole area and fortunately, it's not too far away--about 2 1/2 hrs. tops. Can you believe how Route 30 has built up? I remember going in the 80...
  6. Guhlia--Your timing is impecable! I just got off the phone with my husband--we were discussing a trip he has to take in the spring. He was saying that the 2 of us should go to Lancaster for a few days when it gets warmer. All of your info. is coming in handy for my future reference
  7. Guhlia--Thanks! That's good to know.
  8. Paulina--I think that your point was very well taken. I also agree with what you wrote in an earlier post about the Celiac possibly waning in the teens and 20's. That is what happened with me. After always having a sensitive stomach with frequent D after eating as a child, I was fine in my teens and 20's. It wasn't until age 29, after major surgery that...
  9. My personal take on milk is that it is for baby cows. Even cows, after infancy, don't drink it--and they manage to make all that milk! I don't think humans were "built" to drink the milk of another species. Cow's milk was designed to make a 50 lb. calf grow into a 300 lb. cow in 6 months. The reason that the MDR of calcium is so high is because they...
  10. Carrie's recipes are great! I made her stuffing at Thanksgiving, and it was a hit with everyone. I've tried many of the stir fry ideas, too. And Carrie, if you see this--love the new picture
  11. dlp252--That sounds great! Think of all the combinations! I will be trying your idea in my food processor. I would think that adding a banana in would create a little creaminess.
  12. I have also been using non milk type liquids for things. Water, broth, fruit juices can be substituted in a lot of things. When I absolutely have to have the "milk", I use Vance's. It's potato based and has no soy, nuts, grains or oils.
  13. I am going to try that soy sauce recipe! It look great, and I could never figure out what to use instead of soy sauce. Thank you so much I will be making some Chinese food this weekend--my husband will be thanking you, too
  14. Gosh Vincent--that reaction sounds scary. The strange thing, like you said, is that the allergy test was neg. and the Lactaid did nothing. In our experience with my son who is lactose intolerant, the D and cramping would come an hour or so after eating or drinking the dairy. Never the immediate, and long lasting type of reaction you had. He would feel...
  15. The Dove solid chocolate eggs are gluten-free. I've been eating the dark ones for 2 weeks now
  16. Tiffany--Too funny--the hippie store
  17. Kathleen--I'm relieved to hear that your counselor suggested that you leave now. Although it will be difficult (or maybe not so much considering what has happened), it seems clear that it is the best thing you can do for yourself. You sound like a lovely, sensitive person--you deserve someone in your life that will be supportave and caring. Until that...
  18. The steps I took in my kitchen were-- Replaced-- Collander Wooden and plastic (with scratches) cutting boards Wooden utensils Toaster Non stick pans--bought stainless steel Plastic utensils Cleaned thoroughly-- All cabnet shelves Silverware drawer seperators (crumbs) Fridge shelves Microwave All used stainless steel, glass...
  19. I had a terrible reaction from Hershey's syrup--and I know it was the syrup because the first time it happened, I had it drizzled over a banana. Got really sick, like gluten. Had it again and the same thing happened. Anyway, Vincent--I'm so sorry you got so sick . I wish I never suggested the Lactaid--please don't be mad
  20. I am also sensitive, and I use Kraft Original BBQ sauce with no problem at all!
  21. Kathleen--I don't know you or your guy, obviously, but sinced you asked, the idea that he feels he is giving you "support" by "forcing" you to find other causes of your health problems tells me just the opposite. He quite clearly wants nothing to do with dealing with a Celiac lifestyle. Probably, your moving in made it all the more clear what you need to...
  22. I didn't skew mine, either. I purposely listed exactly the same symptoms I presented my GP with a few months pre-dx, when my symptoms had gotten really scary. They were pretty easy to remember!
  23. At my CVS, the large box --60 chewables is around $16.00. There are a couple of smaller size boxes, too. BTW--I am completely dairy free--2 years now, pre gluten free. The info. is from my son's experiences with this.
  24. Geesh--shouldn't be surprised the doctor didn't tell me I could use the antispaz. for this . Thanks!
