  1. Debmidge--I do the same thing. I think of gluten as any other contaminate--like salmonella. I wash my hands after handling it, dishes & silverware that it has touched, and always run a warm, soapy dishcloth over the fridge, sink, and microwave handles. Any knives used for gluten food goes directly into the dishwasher--I don't even put it back on the...
  2. Thanks Claire--that was interesting
  3. B--Thats beautiful!
  4. Considering the time of year, and that you're in school with so many others, I think you could have the flu or some other virus. Sorry you're so ill . Try and get as much rest as you can, and keep well hydrated!
  5. Whenever possible, I will try a more natural (drug free) approach first. I don't really understand how the Kineisiology worked for me, but it has. He told me at the time that I should only eat the other grains--2 oz. per week, and to avoid corn. Corn still makes me bloated and uncomfortable, and after cutting out rice for 2 weeks and then adding it back...
  6. That was cute--and so true about the chocolate
  7. I would have asked him how my intestine is supposed to heal if I stay on a normal diet. Not to mention all of the other diseases I'd be at higher risk for. Jeesh! That ranks right up there with the most ridiculous things I've ever heard a doctor say
  8. You have a good point. The key to getting more people diagnosed earlier has to start with the medical professionals being better informed. The mere fact that we have a disease that affects 1 in 133 Americans that takes, on average, 11 years to be diagnosed says volumes.
  9. Yes--Cool Whip is gluten-free. BTW--it's a Kraft product, they will list any gluten on the label.
  10. That is great news! Good for Wegmans
  11. The Gluten Free Pantry Truffle Brownie Mix is very good, also. I made them in a 13 by 9 inch pan--it made a good size batch. If you don't have much experience with gluten-free baking, a mix might be a safer bet to take to the meeting.
  12. O M G! I had those "globs" too. I had all but forgotten about it, but when you brought it up, it all came back to me. And, like you said, it was not much more than a nusance, and I had lots of other stuff going on that was much worse. I really never connected it to any particular food. On a related note--before I went gluten-free, when I would eat, I...
  13. I definately agree about the nurses, etc.--And I think they say "it's rare" sometimes when either they aren't familiar with it or have never heard of it!
  14. Thanks for letting us know. PS--love your name
  15. B--What that dr. did to you was downright mean! I'm so sorry that happened to you.
  16. If you get a diagnosis of Celiac, you really should be 100% gluten-free for the rest of your life. I wish I had the knowledge to do so years ago--I may not have all the damage and other Celiac-related issues that I do now.
  17. Me too--I used to love to stuff my salad into pita bread.
  18. Jen--your runner sounds like it's going to be beautiful. Your description of how Maggie liked to sit on it as you were working made me laugh! Allo does the same thing--with the newspaper, laundry, jackets, and anytime we bring anything new into the house, he has to immediately go and sit on it or crawl into it.
  19. Jen--I haven't used it in quite a while now. Lately, though, my eyes have been very itchy. Am toying with having allergy testing done. The problem is--I don't know if it's from food intolerance or some other allergy. I may just try Claritin again and say to heck with it!
  20. I thought I'd add my experiences with doctors and being diagnosed. Looking back, I realize that my symptoms took a turn after the C-section birth of my younger son in 1984. Prior to that, I had always had a sensitive stomach, but was able to live with it and thought that these things were just normal for me. I was becomming very nauseous, dizzy, tired...
  21. Moistureshine Lip Gloss by Neutrogena is also gluten-free. I use it all the time
  22. I know--my family is Italian, and every Sunday (and Thurs.) we would have pasta. Shortly after dinner, I would always have to go to the bathroom. I thought it was normal since that's what always happened. Funny how, especially when we're young, we adapt to things like that. It's only looking back that I can see that it wasn't. Normal.
  23. Hi Maureen--where do you live in SJ?--I'm in Burlington Twp. I go to the Whole Foods in Marlton, and I really want to go to Mr. Ritts in Phila.
  24. A Kinesiologist was the first person to ever tell me I should never eat wheat, oats, barley or rye. (at the time, I knew nothing about gluten). That is what started me doing research, reading and ultimately seeing a gastroentrologist. He (the Kinesiologist) used muscle testing, and every single recommendation he made to me has been dead on.
