Debbie, I wrote Outback a letter commending this manager for her efforts. She's such a sweet girl, I hope that they do reward her in some way. She certainly deserves it. Thank you for the tip.

ARCHIVED Urgent -- I Need Your Help
Guhlia replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oh, Lynne, I'm so sorry and I will keep her in my prayers. Here's info I copied from the CDC's website: -
Okay, I know that sometimes I'm super sensitive. I'm trying to figure out how to take this e-mail. It sounds really rude to me, but like I said, I'm often overly sensitive. He sent me an e-mail asking me to please leave feedback and I sent him an e-mail simply stating that I would leave feedback after we completed testing and thank you for being patient....

Lynne, that's a beautiful picture of you! It's so nice to finally put a face with the name!

Lots of "salads" have bread crumbs in them to enhance the flavor.

ARCHIVED Preschool Cc Or Yoplait Kids?
Guhlia replied to Esther Sparhawk's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Do they have Play-Doh at her preschool? That could be the culprit. And, as Nini said, art supplies are notoriously sneaky for containing hidden gluten. Another possibility could be her teacher... Does her teacher wash her hands a lot and therefore apply lotion often and then touch the kids? Not all lotions are gluten free. I hope you figure it out soon. -
ARCHIVED Substitute For Beer In A Collards Recipe?
Guhlia replied to eleep's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Perhaps a woodchuck cider would work??? Or perhaps a water/vinegar/yeast combo???? -
ARCHIVED Toothpast, Dental Floss, Dill Pickles ;o)
Guhlia replied to Yenni's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Crest toothpaste is gluten free. I know there is at least one that's not, maybe Sensodyne??? I'm not positive. Oral-B will NOT gaurantee that their products are gluten free, so I personally stear clear. As for pickels, I know there are safe ones, but I can't think of brand names right now. -
ARCHIVED Please Tell Me If I Was Glutened...there Goes Another Job Offer!
Guhlia replied to IrishKelly's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It could be either glutening or nerves, however, my bet is on food poisoning. I had horrible food poisoning a few months ago from fresh sliced mushrooms. The mushrooms looked fine, but it was the only thing we could narrow it down to. I was horribly sick w/ the shivers, D, and vomiting. -
ARCHIVED Whats On Your Grocery List?
Guhlia replied to amber-rose's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Always check labels each time you buy something just in case ingredients have changed! Mrs. Leepers boxed dinners (like a gluten free hamburger/tuna helper) Chicken (cut into small pieces)/Worcestershire sauce (Lea & Perrins in US is gluten free)/garlic powder Steak/baked potato/frozen veggies Chicken/rice casserole - diced chicken, Kraft... -
Amy, you said you had a Walmart nearby... That's great! The Walmart GV (Great Value) brand labels gluten free. I've found so many things there that are gluten free. Apparently they have a seperate factory for their glutenous stuff because other labels say "made in a factory with wheat". Happy shopping! I've found this to be the easiest mainstream grocery...

Totally off topic...... Just wanted to say glad you're back! Haven't seen you around in a while.

Guys, if you like beer, try Bard's Tale or New Grist. I've had both and thought both were really good. I couldn't believe how much they tasted like "real" beer. Yum! It's worth the money for special occasions.

ARCHIVED My Son's Enterolab Results
Guhlia replied to lonewolf's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with Carla. What I did is I made our entire household gluten free. I don't have anything with gluten in the house whatsoever and I don't allow gluten in the house. If hubby (or in your case, DS) wants to eat gluten, he must wash his hands and face when he comes home. I also make him wipe down anything he touched with gluteny hands. I've basically... -
That's interesting, I always get WAY sicker than anyone else in my family. I'm usually bedridden for two-three days with a cold when my husband and daughter are only lightly sick for a few days. It generally takes me two weeks to get over a cold.

ARCHIVED Thank You For Your Prayers
Guhlia replied to BamBam's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Brought tears to my eyes... HOORAY!!! -
Oh, Ursula, I'm so sorry things have been so rough lately. Please know that I am thinking about you and praying for your health and well-being. You are such a lovely woman, it's a shame that your husband and family aren't being supportive. Lean on me anytime you wish.

Amy, you've recieved some great advice. The only thing I'd like to add to that is that a good gluten free cookbook will make mealtimes easier. Many things are naturally gluten free, but we all like to have our glutenous goodies sometimes. I recommend the Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food for Kids (not just for kids) by Sheri L. Sanderson and any of the Gluten...

ARCHIVED Villous Atrophy
Guhlia replied to Helena's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Enterolab's stool test can tell you whether or not you're absorbing nutrients (I think). Check into that. It may be a much safer alternative. While it won't tell you if you have villous atrophy, it will report if there are any problems. -
ARCHIVED Incredible Edible gluten-free Food For Kids
Guhlia replied to Luvs to Scrap's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My favorites are the banana bread (I advise making it in mini loaves to avoid burning the crust), crustless quiche (I use way more bacon than they call for though), the garlic biscuits (I double the garlic and add two cups of cheese), mini muffins (I use chocolate chips), chicken biscuit surprise, buttermilk pancakes (even better with blueberries), cowboy... -

ARCHIVED How To Freeze Homemade Pizza Crust?
Guhlia replied to imsohungry's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Bette Hagman has a great pizza crust recipe, it's the Easy Pizza recipe. It's in at least two of her books. It is excellent. I serve it to friends all the time and they look at me like I'm nuts when I take a bite and say "I thought you couldn't eat real pizza". Ha! Then I tell them it's gluten free. -

ARCHIVED Flours
Guhlia replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I prefer the flours at www.kinnikinnick.com. They're relatively inexpensive and the shipping is set at $10 flat rate. Plus, I don't think there's any chance for cc with them.
