  1. I think Blake will actually do a lot better if he loses. If he wins that horrible song with have to be his single, right? That would not be good
  2. I scored 22 as well I really should read that book.... Maybe Talitha's not highly sensitive, but they way you described her sensitivities to clothing and her fears and such made me think maybe it was a fit for her. It isn't a disorder or anything...just interesting to learn about (if you are highly sensitive or if you live with someone who...
  3. I agree, but isn't it possible to have gluten sensitivity that will not ever result in villi damage (even though it may destroy the body in other ways?)
  4. Andrea, Have you heard of the term HSP (Highly Sensitive Person)? Someone posted about it on another thread and I think it's really interesting Open Original Shared Link Hi everyone - just lurking/popping in/driving-by etc.
  5. You might want to check out www.glutenfreedrugs.com
  6. I don't have the bag nearby, but I've seen recipe for pancakes on the back of a package of Bob's coconut flour. I don't remember it containing any corn or rice.
  7. YES! Definitely!
  8. Yes, there are conditions other than celiac that can cause gluten sensitivity. It is also possible to have non-celiac gluten intolerance. Here's an explanation by Danna Korn that might help:
  9. Just bring plenty of cereal and gerber wheels and Energ bread with cheese to the airport and hopefully everything will go well. I know it's hard to travel with a toddler, but bringing 6 hours worth of food into an airport is easy...I'm sure you'll be fine
  10. You should really bring a cooler filled with foods he normally eats. I might be misunderstanding but do you have a 6 hour drive after the flight? If there are grocery or health food stores along the way, it would be safer to stop at those rather than fast food places. That way you can get new ice (or bags of frozen fruit) to keep your cooler cold as well...
  11. If you go to the home page of celiac.com and search for "oats" you'll find extensive information on the subject. Many studies suggest they are safe. It's worth looking over the info. before deciding for yourself. You can get certified gluten-free oats if you're worried about contamination.
  12. Does anyone else bake with coconut flour? The coconut banana muffins I made yesterday (recipe below) turned out really well, so...I'd like to make more stuff with it Does anyone have any recipes? I can't find many online, and I would hate to experiment with it too much on my own, since it's such an odd flour in the sense that it expands and absorbs...
  13. Wow, if your husband's family feels justified eating you alive over something to did you help your daughter, well, they need to find something better to do JMHO I don't really understand that whole issue of cc causing more severe reactions than large amounts of gluten (although I've seen that idea shared here before, and I have my theories about why...
  14. Oh - I thought you were talking about the one that's part of the reply box - like the one I'm currently typing in It's in the upper right hand corner of the blue box.
  15. Well I'm no help but I'm confused about spell check as well. On my computer at work the spell checker is there and on my computer at home it never has been. Strange... Edit: I should clarify that I'm talking about the spell checker that's part of this actual website. I think it's a new feature.
  16. Yum Well I'm definitely not a baking expert, and I could be wrong, but I'd venture to guess that the muffins will be okay w/out the x. gum. It'd probably be a little better with it, but you can probably make due without.
  17. From the company's website: "Manny's offers a full line of authentic Corn and Flour Tortillas,...." I think it's best to use this site as a general guide to remember that technically, anybody can post anything here. It's best to personally verify information you read on this forum (like you did, by reading the ingredients) before taking anything...
  18. I've heard that it's common to feel suddnely worse about 6 weeks in, as that's when your body might start to really detox. Cutting out dairy is a good suggestion though.
  19. What kind of muffins are you making? If they happen to have bananna you should be okay w/o the gum. Extra eggs might work too.
  20. I've heard of canola presenting some sort of cross reactivity issue, but I think that's a pretty outdated belief. Millet and buckwheat are fine (buckwheat isn't even a grain), unless of course you react to them for another reason. I honestly am starting to think this whole gluten-free thing is made to sound a whole heck of a lot more complicated than it...
  21. There's a big difference between natural corn and the processed substances known as maltodextrin and caramel coloring, even if those substances were derived from corn originally. I believe maltodextrin an also be derived from potatoes, but if those additives bother you, your symptoms might not have anything to do with the original sources they came from...
  22. In a way a full time job provides a lot of flexibility, because you get paid time-off and benefits. If you're not required to make a long-term comittment to the full-time option, I would definitely consider it. You can always go back to part-time when you have kids...

    ARCHIVED Jetlag!

The best thing to do is drink LOTS of water before and during the flight. The one time I did that I hardly experienced any jet lag at all.
  24. I don't know if this helps but here's a recipe for enchilada sauce. It's pretty basic stuff when you take out all the scary ingredients and the wheat gluten. Maybe you could make it ahead of time for your friend to use in the rest of her recipe if she can't find a safe, pre-made version? Open Original Shared Link
  25. Here's the list from godairyfree.com
