Well I just ate some organic peanut butter, then I sat down and randomly clicked on this thread. Thanks for the info. Rachel. You talked me out of binging on peanut butter (or eating it ever again really) Rene - I wonder if adding some olive oil and/or coconut oil to your diet would help?

I read somewhere that the walk was not going to be in San Diego (I'm thinking I came across that info on www.glutenfreeinsd.com, but I can't find it now)

Just make sure to eat plenty of vegetables, especially greens. Almonds are a good source of calcium as well. -
ARCHIVED For Those Who Are Dairy Free

I think Earth Balance is the best tasting substitute for butter. It does contain soy though (not sure if you avoid soy or not). I just use olive oil or coconut oil. Substituting coconut oil for butter in baked goods often works well . -

ARCHIVED Cold Medicines And Stuff Of That Nature
Mango04 replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As something safe that might help your throat, you might want to try peppermint tea with honey. Other than that (and I'm hesitant to give this advice), your best bet in terms of a medication might be to pick one from the gluten free drugs website and then read the ingredients carefully for dairy or anything else you might not want in your body. -
ARCHIVED Cold Medicines And Stuff Of That Nature
Mango04 replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You might want to check out www.glutenfreedrugs.com. I had a nasty cold recently and I took something called Old Indian Cherry Bark Syrup. It was really helpful. I also resorted to Tylenol Cold a couple times. I'm highly sensitive to gluten and dairy and I get stomach aches from nearly all medication but it never gave me a stomach ache. I didn't... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Eat For Breakfast?!
Mango04 replied to LittleZoe's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My favorite breakfast right now is scrambled eggs with spinach and tomatoes in sprouted corn tortillas. You can always do any type of meat with veggies for breakfast or fruit with nut butter. Hot gluten-free cereal with almonds, walnuts and fruit is good too. I also like fritattas. Chop up tomato, green onion, canadian bacon and mix it with about... -
ARCHIVED Don't Know What's Wrong
Mango04 replied to GlutenWrangler's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Exactly. A poor diet for a long time can suddenly make you really sick, even if food allergies and intolerances aren't involved. I hear a lot of people say things like, "I know I don't eat healthy but I can't figure out why I'm sick because I know I'm not getting gluten." There are just so many other factors about food to consider. Just a thought. Hope... -

Sorry you're not feeling well. For some reason something that really jumped out at me was the Pepsi. Have you considered eliminating that? It can certainly contribute to dehydration (and many other problems - even if you don't drink very much of it). Beyond that, taking all the other chemicals out of your diet and eating only natural foods for a while... -
ARCHIVED Quinoa....yuck
Mango04 replied to singingserena's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, if quinoa isn't pre-rinsed, it gets pretty soapy when you add water to it. You can usually tell. Ancient Harvest really seems pre-rinsed to me. Not that it would hurt to rinse it, but it's not like some other brands that literally lather with water -
ARCHIVED In The Wedding Party, Need Travel Friendly Food...
Mango04 replied to tiffjake's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I had to travel to the opposite side of the country to be in a wedding last year so I know what you mean. It was totally fine though. I brought tons of food with me when we all went to get our hair and make-up done. That was basically my chance to eat before the event. The other girls were grateful that I had food because they were hungry too, so we all... -
ARCHIVED Quinoa....yuck
Mango04 replied to singingserena's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ewww LOL. Quinoa really isn't a good substitute for oatmeal, imo. I think it's better as a pilaf, cooked in chicken broth with veggies and seasoned with salt and olive oil. I really like red quinoa. -

I've actually seen that label on eggs in other countries. It's pretty funny. -

Hi - This thread is about two years old, so some of the information here is a bit outdated. If you do a search for McDonald's fries you'll find quite a few more recent threads discussing the issue -
I can't do gluten, dairy or soy either. When I was in Australia I enjoyed Early Harvest bread. I actually thought it was one of the all time best gluten-free breads. Most (if not all) Orgran products are gluten, dairy and soy-free as well. They make some great cookies, baking mixes, pancake mixes etc. etc. etc. Aussie Dream rice milk is my...

I second the rice cooker idea. A George Foreman would come in handy as well.

ARCHIVED Corn Flakes Cereal

You can use corn chips for meatballs if you can't find corn flakes, but Erewon (sp?) corn flakes are good and can be found at health food stores -

Hey thanks for posting that. I clicked on your link out of curiosity and woah...I definitely think I'm an HSP. I've actually never heard of it before, but I scored pretty high on the self test I googled it for more info and it's really interesting. I'll have to read the book. -
ARCHIVED Ok--casein.....lactose
Mango04 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I get horrible congestion from casein. There can be many differences between the ice cream and the milk in the coffee (different fat content, organic vs. conventional, different processing methods etc. etc.) that could cause reactions to vary as well. -
OMG Cathy are bananas still expensive in your part of the world? When I first got to Australia they were $2.50 EACH . One day I went to buy a banana (and nothing else) and the cashier at the shop told me I shouldn't buy it. He said my purchase was going to be way too expensive. I totally thought he was joking. Come to think of it, that's probably...

I like cooking one cup brown rice with one cup lentils and about 3.5 cups water. Olive oil, balsamic and sea salt are tasty additions after it's cooked.
