ARCHIVED Food Fair In Michigan
mommida replied to StrongerToday's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I went and it was three times bigger this year. Some of the new offerings were chesnut flour, 12 gluten free products, more beer (that we may never get in the state if a vendor doesn't pick them up), more bean flour product mixes, tastefully gluten free, another company I can't remember, an Asian market that offered gluten free products from their normal... -

ARCHIVED Celiac And Schizophrenia
mommida replied to prinsessa's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I good place to look might be the articles of the opiate affect of wheat and casein. I do believe the articles I read for schizophrenia said to try the gluten free and casein free diet. I don't think there were any changes until the person had been on the diet for at least six months or longer. I would expect there to be some withdrawal type symptoms... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Son Advice Please
mommida replied to youngmum3nz's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We are here for you to vent to. My oldest son's test came back negative. He was eating gluten free for about 2 weeks, because I was just trying to get the basics of the diet down and everything in the kitchen checked. He ate 2 small chocolate chip cookies and his belly bloated out so badly. I thought back and the constipation and rash he had battled cleared... -
ARCHIVED Help With Oats
mommida replied to mlana's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Most of the American brands of oats are too cross-contaminated with gluten. I have seen a few brands are starting to label themselves gluten free, but I don't miss oats much and don't want to risk it. Some Celiacs can also react to the protein chain of oats too. (I wanted to get an answer for you quick and can't remember how to spell alventin, the protein... -
ARCHIVED I'm New Here, A Question?
mommida replied to GreySaber's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Welcome to the board! You need to give yourself time to heal. During that healing time there are some very common ingredients that can cause the "D" or other stomach upset. This has lead to a list of suspicious ingredients to watch out for. Annatto is one such ingredient. You may be lactose intolerate while you are healing. Vanilla or distilled vinegar... -
ARCHIVED 14 Year Old With Negative Blood And Biopsy
mommida replied to annmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with the others, try the gluten free diet. It would appear that males don't seem to suffer from the symptoms as often as females. The genetic markers that he tested positive for are linked with other auto-immune diseases, that a gluten free diet can help. The book, Dangerous Grains, may help you make this decision. L. -
ARCHIVED The Best Advice Or Info About celiac disease You Have Gotten From
mommida replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was stressing trying to figure out how to replace graham crackers for smores for the yearly trip up north. Someone on here said just use gluten free chocolate chip cookies. So simple, you don't even have to break up a chocolate bar in the dark. Now I like the "smores" even better now! L. -
ARCHIVED The Best Advice Or Info About celiac disease You Have Gotten From
mommida replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The only other source I learned from was Danna Korn's book, Kid's with Celiac, EVERYTHING else I learned was from this board. (At diagnoses, the nurse said on the phone, to "by the book, join the support group, and go to celiac.com") Every search topic I googled was inspired from articles on celiac.com or posts. What I really didn't expect was the caring... -
ARCHIVED Beware Of Tcby
mommida replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Good work gluten detective! Let's add this to the list of companies that just don't get it, and that we will avoid. Mrs. Field's Famous Brands will hide gluten on the label - under natural flavor. L. -
ARCHIVED First Cause Of Autoimmunity?
mommida replied to SurreyGirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Vicky , I agree with you. I believe in informed consent, not conform to the masses. It frightens me when people say,"For the greater good of humanity", wasn't that a Nazi propaganda poster ? The chicken pox outbreak (in our school district) last spring was caused by a vaccinated child. Her mother dragged her everywhere and sent her to school, because... -
ARCHIVED First Cause Of Autoimmunity?
mommida replied to SurreyGirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I looked into vaccines, and I bought stock in the makers. It is completely protected money IMO. The vaccine compensation act that was passed in 1986, caps death payment at $250,000. It is very hard to prove vaccine damage in a patient, (you won't get any support from the medical field) and the complatent has a trial by phone against a panel of twelve lawyers... -
ARCHIVED New To Site Looking For Info
mommida replied to momothree's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
18 months is not too young to have DH or Celiac. It is harder to get an accurate test result. DH is often called the sister disease of Celiac. In DH patients there is damage happening in the intestine. All first degree relatives should be screened. -

ARCHIVED Earliest Symptoms Of celiac disease
mommida replied to lilysma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would work with the best specialist you can get to. My daughter had projectile vomiting from the first attempt at formula (about 72 hours of age), even tried the most hypgenic available. She kept most of the breast milk down but always had odd bm's (I know what normal breasfed baby's bm's look like from experience). I did notice that her belly would... -
ARCHIVED Bday Parties
mommida replied to jaimi alderson's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I call the host/hostess of the party find out the meal plans. My son is almost 7, with his age I ask him about what he wants to eat at the party and what the planned menu is. Sometimes he chooses an ice cream bar instead of cake and ice cream. I have a big container of gluten-free candy to trade treats. He is very good about just handing over the gluten... -
I really hope this is not your final question. We are here to help each other. Check labels, find substitutions, learn new information, and in general just dealing with a gluten free diet. Yes, I do think there was more frequent urination on the gluten-free diet. Makes since because it was stopping the daily "D" runs for me. L.

ARCHIVED My 18month Old Daughter Is "pre-celiac"
mommida replied to crstnol's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Rice crispies that have malt in the ingredients are probably not safe, because malt is mostly derived from barley. There are some specialty cereals and some off/store brand that are safe. If it is Celiac, the diagnoses is for life. She had elevated blood tests, damage in her "stomach", and positive reaction to the gluten free diet - all reasonable to diagnose... -
ARCHIVED My Blood Work Was Very Expensive - I'm Very Upset
mommida replied to Carolita's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The doctor may want to run more tests for vitamin and nutrient defiency related problems/diseases associated with Celiac. I would personally spend the 57 bucks on some gluten free food staples you will need and ask for a copy of the tests. (Did I read somewhere there is a Celiac support network that actually sends out a gluten free food basket for newly... -
