Most of the replies do stand up for a gluten free diet. The most concerning part of the anti gluten free diet posters, "no one had this 2o years ago". Just so our gluten free community does know.... Celiac symptoms were described in ancient Egyptian times/ biblical as "wasting Disease" 1920's through 1940's the term "banana babies" as this seemed...

ARCHIVED 3 Yr Old - Endoscopy
mommida replied to peppyking's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I wouldn't do the genetic testing. (Things have probably changed from 10 years ago, but it was not 99% accurate ~ as any blood test has at least a 30% human error rate. It is not considered as part of a "gold standard" diagnoses. It may not be covered by insurance. If the genetic test does not come back positive for the known Celiac genes some people my... -

mommida replied to sunnyfla's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's times like this when you find out who your friends are. You find out how strong you are. ..and you figure out how to keep on going. Sometimes you need to drop the baggage of crappy relationships. Getting diagnosed can be like a liberation, from getting sick and from sickening people. -
ARCHIVED Peripheral Neuropathy
mommida replied to lance fever myers's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
A doctor had mentioned to me that Celiacs (on a gluten free diet) need to be extra viligent to vitamin B 12 to avoid peripheral neuropathy. It really is impossible to tell you when you are going to be completely healed in your gut from Celiac damage on the gluten free diet. (Some say 2 years for the residual antibodies to go down to normal) -
ARCHIVED 4 Year Old With Reflux And Constipation
mommida replied to Mylesmommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would suggest going to the ped. g.i. Those symptoms are common for a list of disorders. Don't change the diet yet, because at least one of the conditions (Eosinophilic Esophagitus) could be "triggered" by gluten. short list... H. Ployri., a congenital defect, parasites, a hernia can even cause vomitting, and sorry I can't remember all the things... -

That is where my stockpile will end up too! I lost my butt to Celiac years back. I have been trying to get it back ever since. Extra weight just hangs out in my belly. Extra belly fat and no but makes it really hard to keep pants up. -

On a very serious note.... It is being predicted, there may be a chocolate shortage! The Ivory Coast (and other areas) are closing borders. The migrant workers will not be allowed in to help in the harvest of cocoa beans. So my dear friends, get out of my way cuz I plan on hoarding as much chocolate as possible. This could just be another... -
How Long Does The Vomiting Last?
mommida replied to coquimama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Are there any other symptoms? Swollen tonsils, tonsil stones, puss on the tonsils, very bad breath? Keep a food journal. (journal meaning activities, vomit (amount of vomit), abdominal cramping, headaches, and include every detail you can and see if any type of pattern shows up) This is going to take some time as in the case of eosinophilic esophagitis...- 24 replies

ARCHIVED Treating Celiac With Psychedelic Drugs?
mommida replied to poneelovesyou's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
There would have to be many more years of research before I would trust be treated with psychedelic drug treatment. I have seen LSD proposed as possible treatment for other disorders an health conditions. I hope you are taking extreme precautions, because I do not believe you are under a doctor's care for your experimentations. I have seen people completely... -
I am guessing that ingredient is just a type of alcohol, and until you heard from the manufacturer there is no definite answer. I also suggest you "jazz it up" like Cycling Lady suggested. Even just adding sprinkles, sugars, or small candies can really make cupcakes look fantatic. Any favorite type of fruit juice can be used to flavor enchance frostings...

We also packed some Go Picnic for snacking on the island. (When you bike up some of those hills, it would not be sane to ride back down into the city to eat!) There are many picnic tables along any trails to take a break at.

Just got back from staying on Mackinac Island! Sadly the 21 speed grill is now a new restaurant, and we didn't try eating there. We went to Twist -N- Sprout and had gluten free free (some of the choices were vegan, dairy free, and the gluten free AND vegan) with the most excellent frozen yogurt I think I have ever had. the side of my gluten free vegan...

ARCHIVED Korean Beef Bowl

OK that is delish! It is a totally forgiving recipe too. I didn't have any ground ginger (I don't really like ginger), and I didn't have any scallions on hand either; still it turned out great! Added broccoli and a small amount of corn starch to thicken the sauce. -

ARCHIVED Relapse Of Symptoms
mommida replied to cdmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You didn't specify the Celiac symptoms that have returned. That being said... My daughter was diagnosed and started on a gluten free diet when she was about 16 months old. When she turned 6 in October her "Celiac " symptoms returned (but worse) vomiting (this was getting worse and worse by the day up to 5 times a day) she was admitted to the hospital... -

I would use some of this time adjusting to some gluten free baking. (bake and freeze in serving size portions ~ cause teenage boys are eating machines! ) Finding out favorite brands of gluten free products. Pamela's, Glutino, Udi's It does seem like a waste of time but it can be so important to have "official diagnoses" of Celiac and rule out any other... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else React To Ingredients In gluten-free Breads?
mommida replied to 3bears2's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
The next best suspect, EGGS! Gluten free baked goods depend on eggs for texture, and some have more eggs than a gluten counter part. The top 8 allergens made the top of the list for a reason. They are the most complex protein chains for the digestive system to break down. Peas are also high on the reactive list and Kinnicknik products use pea starch... -
ARCHIVED How To Tell If Food Affects Child?
mommida replied to TammyTE's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your daughter is now 3 1/2, but I'm not sure how old she was during the testing. (Testing really is not as accurate for children under 2 years old.) Your child would have to be eating gluten for any further Celiac testing. There is genetic testing that can be done on a gluten free diet, but that is NOT a "gold standard" diagnoses. Most doctors/people... -

Rabbit breeds are constantly evolving. The Mini Lop was smaller than the French Lop, so it was named mini lop. The Holland Lop was developed after the Mini Lop. Actually working in a dwarf gene. (breeding the Holland Lop is challenging ~ 2 dwarf genes and the baby usually dies, 2 "normal" genes and the baby/kit usually dies during birth as it is too large...
