ARCHIVED Ringing Ears And Hearing Loss
debmidge replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
wow my husband has both of these two....perhaps the malnutrition part of celiac damaged the inner hearing bones in the ear. Just like osteoporosis. -
ARCHIVED Is Smithfield Ham gluten-free? I'm Confused...
debmidge replied to ang1e0251's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have a question: Are you basting your ham with a rubber blub baster which was used in past with a gluten/bread stuffed bird? Or any pan with gluten residue you cannot scrub off? -
ARCHIVED How Do You Stop These Political Calls
debmidge replied to Lisa's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Lisa This is what I do....I have a phone company which has a service that allows me to "block" phone numbers....so I jot down any offending phone number from the caller ID and add it to my "blocked" calls list. My problem is I keep getting calls for someone who has a name similar to mine and she gets calls from bill collectors. It annoys me... -

ARCHIVED You Never Know What All Has Wheat!
debmidge replied to kim:)'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am sure that we all wonder WHY. I am sure that the manufacturers aren't worried about it either. They just seem to know it could exist in their product in the fragrance. -
ARCHIVED You Never Know What All Has Wheat!
debmidge replied to kim:)'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Besides watching for gluten (I do not use gluteny shampoos and conditioners as I do not want the residue in my shower/tub or hair due to my husband's celiac), I have to watch out for fragrance allergies. I am the "kiss of death" to products: no sooner do I find a product I like, it gets discontinued or reformulated and I can't find it or use it any... -
I am from a denomination which does not consider a christening that private of an occasion....It's a happy occasion to be shared with familly and close friends, of which I thought I was one. I am bringing this up because I was invited to baby shower of daughter someone whom I've known thru my in-laws for 30 years, and this baby even calls my MIL...

ARCHIVED Sleep Eating - What Can I Do To Stop?
debmidge replied to mommyagain's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, since the original poster hasn't been back, I'll respond in case someone else has this problem.... I have this problem too due to taking Ambien....I try to counteract it by placing notes in kitchen on fridge and cabinets which tell me not to eat AND by putting aside one snack only that I can have (use the notes to remind yourself that there... -
I thought I was a close friend, especially since I got 2 jobs for this woman where I worked (2 different workplaces) and befriended her when my SIL dumped her as a friend. My SIL dumped her as a friend because this woman would not tell lies to cover for her any longer so that my sil could cheat on her husband. But I could not tell her...

I wonder if a "passive/aggressive" thing is going on when room mates are involved.....sometimes when people behave this way, in a subconscious way, they could be acting out a repressed aggression toward you. When confronted, they feign ignorance or accuse you of taking it "too personal." or you're "making too much of it" or "you're always difficult...

ARCHIVED So Worried About My Husband
debmidge replied to Mandy1020's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Does he have a definite diagnosis of celiac or wheat allergy or gluten/wheat intolerance? What other tests did doctor run? Does husband have any diarrhea or constipation? Any abdominal pain? I'd also consider ulcer, liver disease, gallbladder disease, digestive malignancies, hepatitis, abdominal blockage, appenditis - so many other conditions... -
ARCHIVED Thanksgiving Update And Families
debmidge replied to torontosue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For my husband's family it's not "reject my gluten food, you are rejecting me." It's more of an inability to grasp the concept of 'No wheat' or not really care or deliberately harm someone just for your "jollies" . For example, we are to eat over husband's family and his sister is peeling and quartering potatoes to make mashed potatoes and... -

ARCHIVED You Never Know What All Has Wheat!
debmidge replied to kim:)'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi This is what I learned: 1) Fragrance free has no perfumes in it at all 2) Unscented has a "masking" agent which could have gluten in it 3) Fragrance free shampoos could have wheat in it as I learned from my mistake. I purchased Earth Science brand of fragrance free shampoo and it contains Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein. I purchased over internet... -

I think that's the best idea especially since he was on the "B" list anyway....you were on the "XYZ" list however. I was recently on a good friend's "XYZ" list - and was very surprised...I never got an invitation. My inlaws all got invitations. About a month before the wedding she happened to call me and I confonted her about not even getting...

ARCHIVED Wow, People Really Don't Get It...
debmidge replied to samcarter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
People also have selected hearing. My husband was diagnosed in 04 and for the entire year from 04-05 I was explaining to my co workers and manager what celiac was all about - only because they saw me reading celiac info at lunch hour and bringing gluten-free food back from the stores at lunchhour. Many knew that my husband was diagnosed with it. ... -

Should have told him that gluten also makes you throw up....he probably would have left you alone. I have a friend who was about 21 at the time, she was model-beautiful, 6' tall, long blonde hair and men constantly bothered her for dates and it creeped her out as she was not comfortable with her good looks. I told her to pretend she was ah...picking... -
ARCHIVED Wow, People Really Don't Get It...
debmidge replied to samcarter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The best way to explain "added gluten" is to say that some people are not contented with the natural amount of gluten found in wheat, so they add more to it to make the dough/baked goods much more elastic than natural. In all my years of baking gluteny baked goods, I've never had to use "gluten" as an ingredient. -
ARCHIVED Silly Question - How Many People Do And
debmidge replied to debmidge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I don't think they make the Caloric brand stoves any longer. My parents had one and it constantly needed repair when it was still new. Everytime my Mom cleaned it (it was self-cleaning) it needed a new thermostat. A repair service installed it and back in let's say 1975 it cost $150 for the job. My father then learned how to buy the part and install... -

ARCHIVED Grrr! I Hate Doctors!
debmidge replied to vthuskies's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This sounds reasonable. GI is not going to commit himself until more tests are run. Please elaborate on : " I didn't have an infection/bug when my symptoms started, it was just D and stomach aches after I ate. " Is he saying that you did not have an infection/bug to "trigger" celiac OR is he saying something else? A GI would... -

debmidge replied to debmidge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That's our problem too...I was not complaining but taking to my friend about how many dishes we have to wash by hand and that it's not just the washing that is a problem, but it's the length of time it takes. We put dinner on, eat and then spend about another hour just washing dishes. My friend couldn't understand that multiply that 3 times a day every... -
