  1. OOOoooh! You make me excited to try the graham cracker crumbs I ordered from Celiac Specialties! Kudos to you!
  2. Oh yeah. We're SPECIAL. Not just different. We go AGAINST the GRAIN.
  3. WE CAN HAVE WOODCHUCK CIDER???? Awesome! I usually order Smirnoff mixed with juice if I'm with the Girls. Or on a date I order Jack N Coke. To show how TUFF i am!
  4. I got a MICROWAVE rice cooker for a gift. Works great! Takes 13 minutes. All my Asian friends use rice cookers, too!
  5. Sound delicious! Can't wait to try it! I miss LOTS of my Scandinavian foods!
  6. What an adorable baby Santa in your avatar!
  7. I never liked coconut until I went to Hawaii and a native climbed up a tree and plucked one for me and cut a hole in it so I could drink the milk and then cut it into pieces. YUM! Love coconut ice cream, too. CAN't wait to try this coconut cake!
  8. I'm Norwegian and we always sift confectioner's sugar over them. My favorite Norwegian food is lefse, and I haven't attempted to make it gluten-free yet. Have you? Oh, and I'd NEVER do it with potato flakes... sacrilege! Monga Tuk! (Many thanks!)
  9. I just bought some Chocolate homestyle and it doesn't say barley on the label and I didn't get sick. My FAVORITE used to be the 7 minute packet you buy at the store and beat on high with hot water that is super gooey and fluffy. So now, I just eat marshmallow FLUFF.
  10. Thanks, so much! My grandma was getting frustrated after finding out I can't have rice krispies cereal, since she promised to make me a dessert on Xmas since I'm flying all the way over there. I emailed her this recipe, since it seems kinda easy! I'll let you know if she works it out!
  11. I'm Swiss and we love fondue. My mother and girlie friends are fine doing cheese with veggies and not bread. Meat and seafood in oil for main dish. Fruit and marshmallows with the chocolate for dessert. It's a great gluten-free party idea!
  12. Thanks, y'all! I had a great time! The pralines, seafood, and especially the hushpuppies were AWESOME!
  13. They had corn tortillas and meat and cilantro and onions and tortilla chips and salsa at my work. I ate it all and didn't get sick. Here in So. Cal. the authentic mexican meat is usually only seasoned with lime juice and other nongluten spices, so I'm lucky. ANd it's all fresh. However, most of the parties I can't eat anything. Sometimes if I'm feeling...
  14. I had a great first experience at PF Chang's in New Orleans on my trip there. They gave me a gluten free menu. I shared the gluten-free lettuce wraps with my nonceliac pal and we both enjoyed that as well as the chocolate dome dessert. My meal was scallops and they were spectacular. I was SOOO delighted!
  15. Best Food: Hushpuppies! Good enuff to make me howl for more! Pralines- gluten-free! Saddest: Couldn't try the famous beignets! Worst Restaurants: HerbSaint--they didn't have the food listed on the online menu! ugh! And it was COLD in there. Dick & Jenny's: expensive food and they use JIFFY mix for their cornbread. (not gluten-free) I got by eating...
  16. Fun Grandma story----my grandma LOVES garage sales and when she moved to a new town she discovered a resale shop type of place called DIG and SAVE which is her new hobby. You dig in 3 foot tall bins full of USED clothes and pay for them by the POUND.So grandma loves to shop for ALL of us there and always has a pile of stuff for me when I visit. I usually...
  17. Yearning for some FRIED fish on my impending trip to New Orleans where it's common to only use corn meal to fry it mmmmm! Emeril is from there and has a restaurant, so that could be cool, too. My cowboy (who is stationed out here in the Marines, but orig. from N'Awlins) informed me that I MUST eat crawdaddy's and SUCK the head. He pantomimed a demonstration...
  18. Hi, I've been scavenging for restaurant ideas for my visit to New Orleans next week. My gal pals are also diet conscious (one's borderline diabetic) and they want to go to HerbSaint on St. Charles. Anyone eaten there? As far as gluten free recommendations I have so far: NOLA Acme Oyster House Emeril's Red Fish Grill Any feedback would be appreciated...
  19. My steak came on top of a giant piece of bread all soaked in au jus. Since I had already explained my allergy to the waiter, I was shocked. He said it was a crouton. It was New Year's Eve. So I ate the steak and ordered Volcano Cake and ate that too. And my honey rubbed my back all night long. I'll never forget our expensive New Year's dinner.
  20. Chic-Fil-A. MMMMMMMmmmmm Per usual, I didn't have the gluten-free Menu w me, but I decided on a gr. chic. sandwich no bun or pickles or sauce and fries and it was really tasty! It was my first time there and the server was gluten clueless.. didn't have a list or menu of gluten-free options, but she DID tell the cooks no pickles-- so it wasn't her fault...
  21. YES YES YES YES YES Isn't it nice to hear a yes? I have NEVER gotten a reaction from Denny's. I just ate there Sunday. I eat the Ultimate Breakfast Bowl. It has potatoes on the bottom and eggs, cheese, ham, etc. on the top and bacon on the side. The pancakes come on a separate plate and I gave them to someone else. I explain that no pancakes or bread...

    Knock On Wood

I think Mario is cute, always have. But his dance was cheesy. Emmitt's music and dance were much cooler. Sorry.
  23. Hi, sounds like fun! Perhaps it would help if you clarify about "we". If you're planning on feeding lots of people the gluten free diet on a tight budget, that can be done. I can't say any of the gluten-free foods seem cheap. gluten-free Bagels here are $8 for a bag of six. gluten-free cereals were on sale for $3 a box and I stocked up, but that...
  24. I would imagine that you don't eat enough roughage. Celiacs don't just eat meat, beans, and nuts. We have problems absorbing vitamins from foods, so we need lots of green leafy vegetables and fruits. Most men I know don't eat many vegetables at all. Lettuce, corn, and french fries don't count. Boil some frozen edamame, real pineapple...
  25. Ok. So I'm dancing. Again. and as i gesticulate, my hand flails to the right of me and I encounter something soft and spongy. and I look to investigate, as this is not a common sensation on the dance floor. and it's a large woman (I'd guess 300 lbs.) with a SHORT skirt on with miles of cellulite that I TOUCHED. Inadvertently, of course. Now, really. I'm glad...
