ARCHIVED ***could My Son Be Allergic To His Diapers?
ArtGirl replied to azmom3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Let me tell you about when my son was a newborn. At one week old he was broken out in blisters all over his body. It was the detergent that his clothes were washed in. We had to switch to soap flakes. Then his bottom got firey red and hot and sore from the plastic used in disposable diapers. We had to switch to cloth diapers. It was more trouble than disposables... -
Others have covered a lot of ground regarding your situation. I'll add a comment about meals. The crockpot can be your best friend. Throw safe foods in it in the morning and you have dinner plus lunch the next day all prepared. (With your large family, maybe two pots would be better.) And any leftovers could be frozen to use when you need "fast food". I...

I'm so sorry you've had to got through all this. Hope you get to feeling better soon. Almost all my food-allergy related symptoms are GI in nature (gas, cramps and D). Gluten causes the most severe symptoms, then corn, then everything else. I've yet to get a real handle on what causes what exactly, as I do have some other minor symptoms such as runny...

ARCHIVED Gastritis Part Of The Fun Celiac Package...
ArtGirl replied to JenKuz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I did the same - although I like the taste of vinegar so I stuck with just drinking some with my meals (a tsp. diluted in water with Stevia to cut the sharpness). Worked like a charm. Although, like I said before, being gluten-free (and corn-free 'cause I'm intolerant to corn) has cleared up all my stomach problems. -
ARCHIVED Confused And Disouraged!
ArtGirl replied to hannahsue01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
YOU ARE NOT NUTS! I repeat.... YOU ARE NOT NUTS!! Doctors are not all-knowing, and way too often when their not infallable tests come up negative, they want to say the patient's problems are all in their heads (especially female patients), rather than use their own heads and search for the answers. How in the world can your mind cause an elevated white... -
ARCHIVED Thankyou And Garden Of Life Products
ArtGirl replied to kristenroman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That barley grass was a problem for me. Technically, the grass part of the plant doesn't have gluten, only the grain. BUT, with harvesting and all there's always some seed that gets into the mix, so it's not pure grass. I should think that the same problem pertains to oat grass and wheat grass. I can't tell you how many products I have given/thrown away... -
ARCHIVED Gastritis Part Of The Fun Celiac Package...
ArtGirl replied to JenKuz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For years I'd get gastritis at the drop of a hat. Seemed something was always setting it off and then it would take 3 weeks to 3 months to heal up. I still had problems for a while with heartburn after going gluten-free, but about 2 months into the diet the problem eased up and for the last few weeks I've not had any problem with it. So, was my gastritis... -

My husband is sensitive to egg yolks, I am sensitive more to the whites, but also the yolks. His symptoms are like hayfever, runny nose/stuffy sinuses. I'm not sure what my symptoms are - still sorting that one out, but I don't have upper respiratory symptoms for any of my food sensitivities - all are GI or emotional (i.e.: irritability). -
What age were you diagnosed with celiac's/gluten intolerance? I don't have an "official" diagnosis because I haven't had insurance and just didn't go to doctors much. Had begun to suspect Celiac disease early this year and had the Enterolab test. Two genes for gluten intolerance. Was 59 when diagnosed through Enterolab - symptoms probably began in my early...

ARCHIVED What Came First Corn Allergy Or Gluten Free Diet Filled With Corn Additives?
ArtGirl replied to a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Going gluten-free allowed for a great improvement in my symptoms - but didn't clear up everything. It wasn't until I got serious about the corn issue that things got better. Since I'm nearly 60 the healing time is going to be longer than you younger folks, but I know now that I cannot eat corn anymore. I find it is harder to eliminate corn (and corn derivatives... -
ARCHIVED Can Someone Please Help?!
ArtGirl replied to concerned-mom061's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Have you tried cooking fresh foods and running them through a blender (you'll have to add water) to make your own baby food? You can completely avoid questionable ingredients this way. -

ARCHIVED How Quickly Do You Feel Your Symptoms?
ArtGirl replied to mamatide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My symptoms begin about 15 hours later - if it's from eating supper, say at 6:00 pm, then around 9:00 the next morning the D and cramps begin. This can continue up to 3 days. -
ARCHIVED Passover Flours
ArtGirl replied to clbevilacqua's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not Jewish but my understanding is that "suitable for Passover" does not have leavening or corn (and, of course, no cornstarch). It can contain wheat. Those with corn allergies, like myself, do look for Passover foods, but with gluten intolerance they can only be those that do not contain wheat/barley/rye/oats. Now if I have this wrong, I'm sure someone... -
ARCHIVED Where's The Most Inconvenient Place You've Realized You've Been Glutened
ArtGirl replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This was pre-diagnosis about a year ago. I was in an art show at a mall over 30 minutes drive from my home. The artists all had to be there by 9:30 to be ready for when the shops mall opened at 10:00. I got to the parking lot early at 9:00 when the need to go hit. I stood by the van trying to gain enough control to make it into the mall and the bathroom ... -
Funny - I was just thinking about this.. um... subject... today. Was even going to post a question. But I think it's been covered already. My conclusion today is: I'm going to stop trying to figure out how my health is (hour by hour and day by day) by how my poop looks. After just a few months on the diet the major D has not been an issue (just the minor...

ARCHIVED Kc Masterpiece Restaurant - In Kansas City Area
ArtGirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Yesterday I had take out from KC Masterpiece Restaurant - in Overland Park, Kansas (on the Kansas side of the Kansas City, Mo. area). I would have reacted by now (noon the next day) so I am confident that I did not get glutened (or corned) from the meal. I called ahead and talked to the kitchen manager about what would be safe and decided to have plain... -
If I go out with someone to a restaurant, most likely I will bring my own food. I don't ask anyone if they mind. I just do it. I wait until others have had their meals served to them and then bring my food out and start eating along with everyone else. I never even considered it to be rude - it's just part of what I do and how I handle my disability. I've...

ARCHIVED Gluten Sensitivity Vs. Celiac Disease
ArtGirl replied to CantEvenEatRice's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have two gluten intolerant genes (from Enterolab). I will be 60 this month, and Enterolab's test indicated normal absorbtion. Do I have Celiac? I don't think so. You would think that after having this condition for the last 40 years of my life and still eating gluten I would have malabsorbtion issues. I don't. Does it make any difference as to how I treat... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Dog Food? ;o)
ArtGirl replied to Yenni's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I feed my dogs the Nutro lamb & rice. Both the canned and the dry. However, I also add boiled ground beef to their food. My Chihuahua who can easily get gastritis loves this food and isn't getting tummy aches now. he was on a prescription diet for years but really didn't like it and would gag sometimes, so I'm glad he tolerates the Nutro mixture. In... -
ARCHIVED Substitute For Condensed Tomato Soup
ArtGirl replied to pmccall4495's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You could use tomato paste and dilute it with water to the consistency you need. You might want to add some onion and/or garlic powder which I think is in the condensed soups. -
ARCHIVED Frustrated That Nothing Is Working
ArtGirl replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'll just add my two cents worth. I am also allergic to corn. And corn is a BIG issue for me. I was puzzled why the gluten symptoms didn't clear up - at least get less - with going gluten and dairy-free. I'm 59 and have been ill for a long time, so I was expecting slow progress. It wasn't until I eliminated the corn that I could see progress. There is...
