Celiac Disease & Gluten-Free Diet Blogs
Day Six
Starting to get slight stomach cramps after meals now. As of this moment, my stomach is making gurgling noises even though dinner was gluten free. I'm feeling slightly bloated and gassy now and I've actually gained 5 lbs in the 6 days of starting this, and yet I'm not eating my full days caloric needs (I eat around 1800 a day). I've also had a niggling of a headache all day. Not enough to require and Advil, but enough as a gentle reminder that something's not quite right. I'm still slightlyDay Five
Had 2 pieces of toast for breakfast and felt fine. Had a bagel and cream cheese with tomato soup for lunch, started to feel a little fatigued and gassy. Dinner was fairly low in gluten, just had a touch of bbq sauce that had soy sauce in it and then I decided to have a beer. As soon as it was finished, I developed a migraine and extreme fatigue. I was ready to pass out at 8 pm.Day Four
Still kind of tired today, but not as bad. My back has residual pain after being as sore as it was, but not enough to warrant advil or ruin my sleep. I noticed last night when I woke up at some point, that my left nostril was plugged. I've never experienced that before other than when having a cold. I also had a mild headache today after eating an apple fritter (like I said, I'm going to make the most of this challenge!) and then heartburn thereafter. Still going to the washroom lots, aDay Three
Fatigued. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO tired. My eyelids droop as I write this. On an interesting note about how another way gluten may bother me, I saw my chiropractor on Wednesday for an adjustment. I see her once in a blue moon. It seems that as soon as a long weekend comes, my back likes to tweak out (not twirk out thank goodness!). Anyways, she does a great job on Wednesday and I say 'see ya next month!' Well, yesterday, day 2 of gluten challenge, I'm washing my hair in the shower when my neMy Friend: Pain!
Before I diagnosis, I did not feel celiac pain. I would notice my tummy bloating, my legs swelling, and have a pregnant looking belly. I had extreme fatigue and foggy mind, but didn't realize those until it went away one day. I trudged on with these mysterious symptoms that were "All in my head." Wondering in my dreamy state if something possibly was wrong. Now, I am 18 months (well there about) into a gluten free diet. Some mysterious way, I got some gluten. Right away I felt sharp pings inDay Two
So here I am on day two. No fatigue or migraines surprisingly. I'm wondering if they have passed as I got those on the weekend when I was accidentally glutenized. Today was more like bloat and making a few mad dashes to the washroom. By the end of the day, my tongue had swollen as I can actually see my teeth imprints on the side of my tongue. Is that even a symptom? Tongue swelling? I can certainly feel a few cankers trying to 'blossom'. As I "poison" myself through this challenge, I thought IDay One
So after a year and a half of being part time gluten free (avoided the obvious sources, but continued with sauces, malt vinegars and beers) I have decided that I want to be tested for celiac. I kept a food journal and after playing around with food eliminations, I discovered that I have fructose/fructan malasorption. So I avoided apples, wheat, onions and garlic for the better part of the year. I also discovered that wheat caused intense pain in my stomach. Since wheat's sugar is fructan, I siThe Mystery Rash
For years I had this rash on my right knee right on the side of it. Really itched like crazy. It looked like tiny little blisters they came by twos. they looked like little bites. I would scrach them and they would break open and the juice would spread and then i would have more bumps. I went to see many doctors no one knew what it was nothing helped it. I am now I am convinced its from gluten. Does any one else have these bumps?I Need Help
The last year I lost 50 pounds I had been dieting and excersing. I had noticed before loosing weight I would have problems when we went out to eat I had to always rush to the bathroom afterwards. I put two and two together and fiqured out maybe I was gluten intolerant. When I ate breads or pastas I would have really bad cramps and have to rush to the bathroom, my stomach would blow up like a balloon. If i ate a sandwich for lunch my stomach would make this terrible noise and I am a dental hygien"celiac Disease Now"
The introductory lecture of the clinical forum of the International Celiac Disease Symposium (ICDS) 2013 in Chicago last week was entitled “Celiac Disease Today: An Overview” given by Drs. Alessio Fasano and Peter Green. Although the official slides and presentations from the symposium are not yet available for purchase, based on my notes the following topics were addressed during this opening session: Celiac Disease involves both an innate and an adaptive immune system response to gluteWhy am I Still in Pain and Why Can't They Find Anything?
My journey with celiac began a year ago...I have been sick all my life and doctors just couldn't figure out why I was having such severe abdominal pain and bloating. Until last September, I just couldn't take it anymore. I went in for an ultrasound of my gallbladder and a hida-scan. My gallbladder was not failing to the point where they normally remove it. So, we ignored the pain. Until one night, after eating dinner, I ended up in the emergency room. My doctor decided to send me in for a colGrain Brain Author's Interview

This is my very first blog on celiac.com and I wanted my first blog to be something that troubles me almost everyday. It began about a year ago...I suffered for half of that year not knowing why I was having severe skin irritation and the second half of the year trying to avoid the culprit. I'm talking about wheat and I'm talking about how it effects me airborne. I was diagnosed with celiac disease back in early 2009, but these symptoms I started having were new and nothing I'd expierenced befoMy, Oh My, Peripheral Neuropathy
I spent a good chunk of last Christmas Eve in an MRI scanner, getting my spine analyzed for the white matter lesions of multiple sclerosis (MS). Mike, the MRI technician, piped George Winston’s “December” celiac disease through my MRI headphones, but the music did little to drown out the loud hammering sounds of the MRI and the thoughts that were racing in my head. I prayed and bargained while I was in the scanner, with thoughts such as, “If I do have MS, please let it be relapsing-remitting andA Little About Myself.
Hi, my names Emily I'm 15 and I live in Upstate New York. I was fully diagnosed with celiac in March. My little sister has it too. This blog is to spread the information I get to others. If you have any questions or just want to talk feel free too.Diagnosis: Scabies
Well i ended up at the ER today because I just couldn't take the itching anymore. I told the NP all of my symptoms and she said that the ER doesn't really know how to treat things like rashes that have been going on for a month (like mine),but only treat rashes that just "popped up". So they gave me some cream for contact dermatitis (Scabies). I told her that this is not scabies, but she didn't listen. UGGGHHH! I owe a lot to celiac, If it weren't for celiac I would eat like an American: chips, soda pop, and candy until gone, but undiagnosed celiac motivated me to cut out sweets. I learned to eat vegetables, I grew more and more motivated to learn about and use foods to nourish. When I got married I knew how to cook hotdogs, chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies, and scrambled eggs. Oh, I had fried chicken once and browned beef. My family would have learned careless eating habits from meThe Story of My Diagnosis
I had been throwing up for about 6 months on and off, and it seemed like no matter what I ate I would still get sick. I was transitioning from San Diego back out to Dallas where I was from, and was trying to get settled in. I had days where I felt perfectly fine, and on those days I worked out with my trainer at the gym for about 2 hours a day. I thought I was doing everything right at that point. I remember waking up one morning and getting ready for an appointment at the women's clinic. ThatGluten-Free Skin
Something like 60% of the stuff you put on your face is absorbed into your skin. Ladies and gents I’m talking make-up, lotion, soap, anything like that. Your skin is your largest organ and it sure does like to suck stuff up. Let’s all take a minute to think about the things you put into and on your body… that’s a lot of stuff! Some experts believe that gluten cannot be absorbed through the skin. Now of course we all react differently to this gluten stuff. I am super sensitive and not only does-

Yes, I have one of the older models and have tested many products with it. For me it seems like a valuable tool and I have used it to test foods that I eat regularly, which are naturally gluten-free, for example salsa, refried beans, etc.

Has anyone tried the NIMA gluten detector? I'm seriously thinking of investing in one. I haven't eaten out at a restaurant since my late diagnosis 4 years ago (I'm 55 in March) Any information would be greatly appreciated
