I Just Want To Scream
Test came back 'normal' even though IGG and IGA was in the normal/high range after a 7 week test (previously I was almost gluten free for a year). My ALP was normal/low. To even speak to a specialist for a biopsy would take at least 6 months. There is no way I can continue with this challenge as depression has set in, my skin rashes on my legs looks horrible and my under eye circles have my customers asking me if they can grab me a coffee (dispite all the make up I have on). I'm just goiFrustration. All I Want Is To Be Normal
I figured it was time to vent through a blog post. Because I don't think anyone wants to keep hearing the same thing over and over again like a broken record. Here is a little background... In December of 2009 I slipped on an icy driveway before work and fractured my right kneecap into 3 pieces and dislocated it up and into my quadriceps muscle. I had surgery to fix it. 6 months later I fractured it again slipping and falling on slippery concrete by a friend's pool. Ironic, right? I hadCeliac Disease Around the World
I recently had to write a lesson plan for my Nutrition in the Community class for school. I am studying to be a dietetics technician in an effort to increase the awareness in that field about gluten sensitivity and celiac disease. For the lesson plan I had to create I thought: "what better to teach than to use somethings that I am quite familiar with?" So I decided to teach about becoming newly diagnosed with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease. I learned something quite interesting aboutThanksgiving Went Well
This year a doctor told me not to eat anywhere but home. My body is acting super-sensitive and I didn't want to rock the boat. I alerted my sister, the hostess, and my brother that I would be unable to eat at the gathering, but would eat on the way there. On the way there I enjoyed my very filling rice and beef casserole. I had planned to do a regular turkey dinner, but when I remembered I couldn't have mashed potatoes and gravy, I skipped it. After arriving, I walked into the kitchen, sWeek 7
Constant aches and pains. I always have a stomach ache, my knees hurt, I want to go to bed by 8pm and I'm taking ibuprofens a few times a week to help my headaches. On top of that, at week 5, I started to develop this facial rash that is intensely itchy on my jaw bone and is red and blotchy on my whole cheek area. It almost looks like psoriasis. Can DH appear on the face too? My eczema on my legs are NOT itchy, but are gross looking, similar to that of ringworm. I had a doctors appointmentOverwhelmed.
This is my first blog post, as well as my first post on this site in general. I have been to this website & forum many times before, lurking for information & understanding when I first realized the possibility of gluten intolerance in 2011. However even after I have been gluten-free, then glutened, then paneled, then gluten-free, then glutened, then scoped, I still don't know what to say or where to even begin on the forums. So this is my first jump into the Celiac Community Interweb.Leg Cramps
I have been gluten free for 5 months and i have been having problems with bad leg cramps. I have read some where that was cause of gluten free diets. Has anyone had that problem? I have started taking magnesium, i read that it would help. It has a little. I still have leg cramps just not as bad. I have read that you need to take vitamins if going gluten free. would like to know if and what anyone takes. thanks pamNon-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity In Children (Summary Of November 2013 Research Study)
I was thrilled to come across a paper about non-celiac gluten sensitivity in children in the Journal of Pediatrics, one of the main pediatric journals. Many of my pediatrician colleagues read this journal on a regular basis. In this article, a group of Italian researchers has described the symptoms and lab test results in 15 children with gluten sensitivity (GS) compared to 15 children with active celiac disease and 15 controls (children with IBS-type symptoms that have no correlation with gluteDay Thirty One
Alright. So its been a month since I've started doing the challenge and now my the tip of my thumb is starting to crack and peel. Now, some of this is to blame on the cold weather, but I DO recall that when I was almost gluten free last year, my thumb hardly split at all. I am FINALLY free of that cold/laryngitis thing. That only took about two weeks to get rid of. I'm not starting to find that after I eat, I am still SUPER hungry. Could it just be TTOTM (ladies will understand) or am IGood News/ Bad News
I have just passed through several days of cramping, swelling, and gassiness. All of this as a result of nothing specific that I know of. Perhaps after 19 months gluten free it is just further recovery. Happily, I woke up today without the cramping and felt excellent since. . Previous blood counts, over the passed 5 years, showed immature blood cells which tended to break easily. These have difficulty carrying oxygen. Late morning I received the happy news. Word came my blood count was norGluten Free Desert Pizza Survey
Hi my name is Trevor Snyder and I'm currently a Junior in the Wake Forest Business School; in addition to this I also have Celiac disease. I am writing this blog in the hopes that you guys will complete this short survey that will help me in my marketing project on pushing a gluten free desert pizza, in addition I hope that this blog will help to create awareness for a gluten free pizza one day. Thanks! Open Original Shared LinkDay Twenty Two
I'm still not over this cold/laryngitis. Just when I thought it was over, WHAM! I'm totally fatigued again today and my throat is tightening up. I also noticed that a lymph node at the back of my neck has become swollen. I remember as a kid I used to have swollen nodes in my neck ALL the time and my doctor making a comment on it. As for symptoms, I'm either battling IBS-C or IBS-D these past few weeks. Oh the joy.Day Nineteen
So this 'cold' turned into laryngitis. I had to leave work on Friday because it hurt too much to talk. On Saturday I just napped and took it easy. However, early this morning at around 1:30am, I had a migraine that almost lead to me throwing up. I also had insomnia during this whole ordeal, which is probably why the cold turned into laryngitis. I'm also developing eczema again on my legs.Early Feeding And Risk Of Celiac Disease In A Prospective Birth Cohort
**This is the first guest post on my page by Cristen, an incredibly talented scientist and mother of two children. Her youngest child was diagnosed with Celiac disease earlier this year. Many thanks to Cristen for tackling this challenging topic! Celiac is known to have a large genetic component and people with Celiac disease carry the HLA-DQ2 or HLA-DQ8 genes. However, only around 4% of people that carry these genes develop Celiac (Open Original Shared Link). The big question then is, what elDay Fourteen
I didn't eat gluten all day until dinner time. I didn't want to because all day I had stomach cramps. The cramps have begun... I ate a peanut butter sandwich for dinner and within 30 minutes I was wincing from the pain. So not good. And sorry boys, skip this part as this may be a bit TMI, but I started midcycle spotting again. I always thought it was grain related (I noticed I spotted after eating corn products) but I'm only day 10 into my cycle and I've started to spot. I keep really goodDays Twelve And Thirteen
So exactly 24 hours later, just like clockwork, on day 12, a migraine sets in. I'm assuming the pizza because that's what I pigged out on 24 hours earlier. I was also very sore under my armpits and chest, like I was either coming down with the flu or had done push ups the previous day (which I had not). Today, day 13, I went to the chiropractor as my back was acting up again. And now, I'm getting a cold. My first cold in about 2 years. No, I'm not even joking. I rarely get sick thankfully.Day Eleven
Not much different other than I enjoyed some licorice and pizza hut for the first time in a couple of years. Very tired by 9 pm, but that could be from the excessive couch potato mode I was in. It was girls weekend, so horror films and junk food were in full pursuit. The Celiac Iceberg Revisited At Icds 2013
The second to last session on day one of the 2013 International Celiac Disease Symposium (ICDS) was a talk entitled, “Melting the Celiac Iceberg-potential, latent, silent: to treat or not to treat?” I was very confused about these terms when I first came across them in the Celiac medical and research literature a few years ago. “Silent” Celiac Disease refers to patients who have Celiac Disease (elevated Celiac antibodies on blood testing and abnormal small bowel mucosa on endoscopy and biopsy)Wheat Farmer's Dilemma
Here's a link to Dr. David Perlmutter's website and a recent discussion he posted about wheat farming. Dr. Perlmutter actually answers questions if you read through the comments at the end! Open Original Shared LinkDays Seven And Eight
Well, those two days were almost the same. Nagging headache, starting to feel nausea after eating gluten, running to the bathroom and very tired by 8 pm. On day eight (yesterday), I made a lasagna and black forest cake for my boyfriends birthday. Of course I had some and it was all very delicious, but my guts were just rolling still three hours after and I could hardly go to sleep. My tummy was so full of gas and nothing would come out, so it was just none stop stomach cramps and gas cramps last-

Yes, I have one of the older models and have tested many products with it. For me it seems like a valuable tool and I have used it to test foods that I eat regularly, which are naturally gluten-free, for example salsa, refried beans, etc.

Has anyone tried the NIMA gluten detector? I'm seriously thinking of investing in one. I haven't eaten out at a restaurant since my late diagnosis 4 years ago (I'm 55 in March) Any information would be greatly appreciated
