This as far as I know is not listed as sympton any where but when I was eating gluten my BP shot up to 140/98 and the docs all wanted to medicate. But everytime I tried the gluten-free diet my BP fell to safe limits. Infact this week the doc measured it at 100/70! I am not taking _any_ meds for it, but my doc is using it as a reason to believe celiac disease is the correct diagnoses.

Anyone else like this? Any good reason for it? Or am I just wierd, again? :)

Hi Vincent. My husbands blood pressure had gotten really low since he's been dx with Celiac (actually it was super low before dx and it's now come up and is now just low). His is normally around 100/58 to 100/60.

I guess he's weird too :lol:

I'm jealous of you 'weird people' :D --My BP started to creep up around 8 years ago. Now, I'm on 2 different meds. for it, the dr. just doubled one of them a month ago. I have to go in on Monday to see if it had an effect. Being gluten-free for over 8 months now has had no effect, for me, on my BP :angry:

Mine used to be really low, like 90/60 and since going gluten-free it has evened out to an average of 124/78. I am thinking that whether it gets higher or lower, if it is BETTER then the gluten-free diet is helping! right? I was really anemic, so I think that is why mine was so low. And I had chest pains a lot, so I have a home BP kit. That is cool that your doc is drawing lines and connecting the dots!

I've had unexplained high blood pressure for years. I had high bp at 20 when I was quite slim. Doctors couldn't explain it....I wasn't ever all that overweight...about 20 lbs max, and I was a very careful healthy eater and strong exerciser...and although I didn't want to take meds, I did agree to try verapamil on one occasion and hydrochlorothiazide (diuretic), and neither of these really helped lower it much. Doctors were very puzzled. I don't know that it has gone down all that much now, but maybe I haven't been gluten free long enough. I keep cheating a bit here and there. :(

I do know that a food allergy reaction will cause bp to spike or bottom out, so I do believe that celiac will do the same thing. Mine used to be quite low, now it is in the normal range. I was so used to the low, that the normal feels weird!

      Definitely get vitamin D 25(OH)D.  Celiac Disease causes vitamin D deficiency and one of the functions of vitamin D is modulating the genes.  While we can survive with low vitamin D as an adaptation to living in a seasonal environment, the homeostasis is 200 nmol/L.  Vitamin D Receptors are found in nearly every cell with a nucleus,while the highest concentrations are in tissues like the intestine, kidney, parathyroid, and bone.  A cellular communication system, if you will. The vitamin D receptor: contemporary genomic approaches reveal new basic and translational insights  Possible Root Causes of Histamine Intolerance. "Low levels of certain nutrients like copper, Vitamins A, B6, and C can lead to histamine build up along with excess or deficient levels of iron.       I forgot to mention my suspicion of the high amount of glyphosate allowed to be used on wheat in USA and NZ and Australia. My weight was 69kg mid-2023, I went down to 60kg in March 2024 and now hover around 63kg (just after winter here in NZ) - wheat-free and very low alcohol consumption.

      Hi Jess Thanks so much for your response and apologies for the long delay in answering. I think I must have been waiting for something to happen before I replied and unfortunately it fell off the radar... I have had an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy in the meantime (which revealed 'minor' issues only). Yes I do think histamine intolerance is one of the problems. I have been lowering my histamine intake and feeling a lot better. And I do think it is the liver which is giving the pain. I am currently taking zinc (I have had three low zinc tests now), magnesium, B complex, vitamin E and a calcium/Vitamin C mix. I consciously think about getting vitamin D outside. (Maybe I should have my vitamin D re-tested now...) I am still 100% gluten-free. My current thoughts on the cause of the problems is some, if not all, of the following: Genetically low zinc uptake, lack of vitamin D, wine drinking (alcohol/sulphites), covid, immune depletion, gastroparesis, dysbiosis, leaky gut, inability to process certain foods I am so much better than late 2023 so feel very positive 🙂

      Hi and thank you very much for your detailed response! I am so glad that the protocol worked so well for you and helped you to get your health back on track. I've heard of it helping other people too. One question I have is how did you maintain your weight on this diet? I really rely on nuts and rice to keep me at a steady weight because I tend to lose weight quickly and am having a hard time envisioning how to make it work, especially when not being able to eat things like nuts and avocados. In case you have any input, woud be great to hear it! Friendly greetings.
