Donna, so glad your test came out GOOD! :) i did not know of anyone having a stomach polyp, is there any concern about that? I suppose we with celiac can expect most anything since it is a bit wierd the way we cope with it!! :huh:

Thanks evie, how are you feeling? They did remove a stomach polyp on my first scope and it was biopsied, but that did come back benign...don't know what causes them in the stomach, but the doctor wasn't concerned at all about it...course I think he had this mass on his mind when I was talking to him--he didn't even mention the polyp except in passing.

Babies are so precious! Glad you get to enjoy her. I still have a gummy smile since Seth hasn't broken out with his first tooth yet. :)

There hasn't been a post on here in 30 minutes! How'd we let that happen?!?!

Um - question:

I'm beginning to have my mystery stomach muscle spasms (gluten-free or not, they're still there about every month) again, and I'm feeling really flushed. Like that's new, but my face feels hot. Anyway, I went to the b-room to check it out, and even through my glorious BE makeup, I could see the flushing on my cheeks, but the wierd thing is that it was totally symetrical. That's not necessarily wierd, but there's a dime-sized kind of triangular red spot on each cheek below the main area of flushing. It's horizontally on the same latitude as the top of my lip, and vertically in line with the outer edge of my eyes. WTF is that about?

I wonder if I flush like that every time my stomach hurts? :huh:

First off...Geese would make LOUSY cattle gaurds. They would keep flying away, and are obviously WAY too busy keeping us all safe to guard the cows!! :lol::lol:B)

No, no, NO, darlin'! You must understand: Our geese are miraculous and multi-talented!!!!! They LOVE guarding our cows, and would never dream of flying away unless their charges were safely ensconced in our barn!!!!! SEMPER FI - That's our geese! ;););)

I get the hot face/flushing--but not as much as before. I know you were looking through your makeup, but I also thought of the "butterfly rash" that people with Lupus describe. Did it look anything like that?

Yeeeah, I thought butterfly rash, too. Although, it doesn't really go across my nose, my nose is just a little more pink, if that makes sense. I'm taking off my makeup now (I knew having the supermom stuffed purse would come in handy :lol: ) so I'll give it some time and see how it looks without makeup.

What with that, and the wierd totally random rashes...I don't know what to think! :unsure:

Of course, my hair isn't falling out, I'm anemic yes, but my platelets are high, not low. I'm gaining weight, not losing it...

And whatever this stomach spasming thing is about, it's definitely what I would describe as a flare. A flare of what, I do not know. Acidic food, bland food. Gluten, no gluten. Prilosec, no prilosec. Bentyl, no bentyl. Bentyl doesn't even touch it. I have to take a phenergan suppository and knock myself out to try and get rid of it. For some reason, in spite of multiple ER trips and lots of narcotics, nobody's really tried to figure out what the heck it is!!! I guess I'll ask the GI to poke around my stomach while he's in there getting biopsies.

Geez...celiac and lupus, wouldn't that be fun! <_<

How about Niacin (B-3) flushing? Are you taking that?

Patti, I'm glad to hear the spring water is working for you. I am using Aquafina but ran out, was on the road, etc. and so have not been consistent.

Andrea, what an amazing job you are doing keeping track of all the positions, thanks.

Chelsea, how does it look with your make-up off? Is this a new make-up for you?

Rachel, I know that overall I can't handle dairy but there were a couple of times I had some strawberry ice cream and it didn't seem to bother me as long as I didn't over do it. I will say though that after reading the DrJ articles on wheat, dairy and soy I will make the effort to avoid dairy from now on. Oh, and soy too.

Mango, I will look forward to hearing about your down under adventures.

Celia, I can feel your happiness, how wonderful.

And Vincent, yes we need an official rulebreaker though don't be surprised to find yourself surrounded by unoffical rule breakers. :lol::lol:

I'm all caught up on the posts, and trying to remember who said what, without quoting your individual posts.

PATTI - Is your Poland Springs water flat or with bubbles? (I can't remember what the fizzy water is called.) The only kind I've found here in Georgia is the bubbly kind, and I don't like it.

RACHEL - I think you're absolutely right about ice cream!!! :) I used to think I was lactose intolerant, but after I learned about MSG and all the other crap that's in ice cream, I found some that's junk-free. Yea! Thanks to this incredible string of yours - No problems!! :):):)

JULIE for Queen - I vote aye!

DONNA - I'm so happy to hear your good news about benign biopsies!!! You must be on Cloud Nine! :D:D:D

CHELSEA - Hmmm . . . Flushing and spots? Reaction to MSG, red wine, niacin, or anti-biotic? My niece has the same symptoms if she drinks red wine. :( I think the butterfly rash of lupus goes across the bridge of the nose, and you said you didn't have that. Oh, and how about rosacea?

I just "took" some phenergan, so I'll be passing out and become incoherent pretty soon. Doesn't take that long to get from the butt to the head :rolleyes:

Yeah, still don't know what it is, my mom is both worried and at a loss. This has been going on a long time and robs me of at least a day's worth of spoons. :(

OK, I'm done whining :unsure:

      Welcome to the celic.com community @Dizzyma! I'm assuming you are in the U.K. since you speak of your daughter's celiac disease blood tests as "her bloods". Has her physician officially diagnosed her has having celiac disease on the results of her blood tests alone? Normally, if the ttg-iga blood test results are positive, a follow-up endoscopy...

      Hi @Dizzyma I note what @trents has commented about you possibly posting from the UK.  Just to let you know that am a coeliac based in the UK, so if that is the case, do let me know if can help you with any questions on the NHS provision for coeliacs.    If you are indeed based in the UK, and coeliac disease is confirmed, I would thoroughly recommend you join Coeliac UK, as they provide a printed food and drink guide and also a phone app which you can take shopping with you so you can find out if a product is gluten free or not. But one thing I would like to say to you, no matter where you live, is you mention that your daughter is anxious.  I was always a bit of a nervous, anxious child but before my diagnosis in mid-life my anxiety levels were through the roof.   My anxiety got steadily better when I followed the gluten-free diet and vitamin and mineral deficiencies were addressed.  Anxiety is very common at diagnosis, you may well find that her anxiety will improve once your daughter follows a strict gluten-free diet.       Welcome to the celic.com community @Dizzyma! Normally, if the ttg-iga blood test results are positive, a follow-up endoscopy with biopsy of the small bowel lining to check for damage would be ordered to confirm the results of "the bloods". However if the ttg-iga test score is 10x normal or greater, some physicians, particularly in the U.K., will dispense with the endoscopy/biopsy. If there is to be an endoscopy/biopsy, your daughter should not yet begin the gluten free diet as doing so would allow healing of the small bowel lining to commence which may result in a biopsy finding having results that conflict with the blood work. Do you know if an endoscopy/biopsy is planned? Celiac disease can have onset at any stage of life, from infancy to old age. It has a genetic base but the genes remain dormant until and unless triggered by some stress event. The stress event can be many things but it is often a viral infection. About 40% of the general population have the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% actually develop celiac disease. So, for most, the genes remain dormant.  Celiac disease is by nature an autoimmune disorder. That is to say, gluten ingestion triggers an immune response that causes the body to attack its own tissues. In this case, the attack happens in he lining of the small bowel, at least classically, though we now know there are other body systems that can sometimes be affected. So, for a person with celiac disease, when they ingest gluten, the body sends attacking cells to battle the gluten which causes inflammation as the gluten is being absorbed into the cells that make up the lining of the small bowel. This causes damage to the cells and over time, wears them down. This lining is composed of billions of tiny finger-like projections and which creates a tremendous surface area for absorbing nutrients from the food we eat. This area of the intestinal track is where all of our nutrition is absorbed. As these finger-like projections get worn down by the constant inflammation from continued gluten consumption before diagnosis (or after diagnosis in the case of those who are noncompliant) the efficiency of nutrient absorption from what we eat can be drastically reduced. This is why iron deficiency anemia and other nutrient deficiency related medical problems are so common in the celiac population. So, to answer your question about the wisdom of allowing your daughter to consume gluten on a limited basis to retain some tolerance to it, that would not be a sound approach because it would prevent healing of the lining of her small bowel. It would keep the fires of inflammation smoldering. The only wise course is strict adherence to a gluten free diet, once all tests to confirm celiac disease are complete.

We have started her  on a full gluten free diet. my concerns are that she wasn’t actually physically sick on her regular diet, she had tummy issues and skin sores. My fear is that she will build up a complete intolerance to gluten and become physically sick if she has gluten. Is there anything to be said for keeping a small bit of gluten in the diet to stop her from developing a total intolerance?  also, she would be an anxious type of person, is it possible that stress is the reason she has become coeliac? I read that diagnosis later in childhood could be following a sickness or stress. How can she have been fine for the first 10 years and then become coeliac? sorry, I’m just very confused and really want to do right by her. I know a coeliac and she has a terrible time after she gets gluttened so just want to make sure going down a total gluten free road is the right choice. thank you for any help or advise xx
