Rachel--24

Listen, y'all, I'm seriously concerned about Rachel!!! I just PMed her, but it's very early in the morning in California, so I don't expect an answer any time soon. I checked back, and her last post on this string was Tuesday night, August 1st, page 276, post #4128.

I just heard about that this AM on the news--that could be it. I, too, hope all is well.

Does anyone have her phone number? It's not that early here in California, I haven't heard anything about an earthquake although I don't watch the news much, if it was so big as to knock the power off in San Francisco I probably would know.

Wish we had a way to get ahold of each other.

I have not heard form Rachel either, this is not like her at all to go this long without posting or contacting someone.

I'm concerned maybe she got really sick, or maybe something is going on in her personal life.

I thought about her computer maybe acting up, but she could always use the one at work.

I haven't heard anything about an earthquake - they happen all the time, and my best friend in San Jose would have told me about it if it was anything significant - if it was big enough that the power went out, we'd have heard about it.

Not like Rachel at all, and yes, she loves us, she would FIND another computer and send us a note, I am sure! I mean, she is the founder and president......I am concerned, I guess no one has her phone number? Even if she were not well, just really lousy and sick, you now she would post.

Gosh - I am really concerned....we don't know her last name - does anyone? - she lives in Manteca, or is that her mom's house? - and works in San Francisco, I think, that's all I know...

Hi Tavi - no! no more cheating! Glad you are better and back with us.

Nice to see everyone - - R-ville seems to be slowing down....oh dear.....

I am now going to begin painting 2/3 of my house and then rip out carpet, acid-stain the cement underneath.....dear God...

where is everybody? come back....... :(

I am off to my brother's house in Sacramento for the weekend. My niece is going to sing the National Anthem at the River Cats game tonight. How exciting! :D So don't worry about me folks. I will try to use his computer but he usually has sites blocked to keep his kids from going places

Have a great weekend my fellow rachelites.

And Lynne have a great time at the wedding :D

Tavi - - have a great time! :) Give us an update when you can....and no Krispy Kremes!

Doesn't Rachel live at her mother's during the week? I think she said she works at a Buy Rite store there, and only goes back to her own house on weekends. So she would have been at her mother's the last time she posted. I'm not sure about the Buy Rite, though I know it is a grocery store.

I just went to the Members file. Her last post was on Wednesday at 7:45 AM, August 2nd. It didn't say on what forum topic.

I've been playing with my page on Myspace for the last few days. I've been finding a lot of my cousins and friends from school. I was shocked when I got on here and there was 1/2 page since yesterday afternoon.:huh: hmmm....

I'm worried about our President too. Where could she be? Hopefully the bushes she cut didn't get their revenge.

Susan I wish I could rip out my carpet and paint. I hate living in military housing!!!!

Well I have things to do. Talk to you guys later.

Camille'sBigSister Newbie

Rachel works at a Safeway. I found that info on one of the first posts on this thread, on page 7.

Now I'm going to see if I can find where she said her mother lives.

I *think* that Donna lives in Rachel's general area. When was the last time Donna checked in?

I am hoping that Rachel is having a wonderful time and is thinking we know she has true ice cream vitality :) but I admit I am a little bit worried. I think we must collectively wish for Rachel to post and let us know how she is doing. Do you know the expression, "the long body"? It means the ways in which we are connected that we do not know but sometimes encounter, like reaching for the phone to call a friend and the phone ringing and it being them, or our resident twins who keep saying the same thing at the same time :) So Rachel, give us a ring, we miss you. :)

I know exactly what you mean, although I've never heard that expression. Rachel, check in!!! Meanwhile, Andrea and I will continue searching.

Evie, I'm sending a prayer for you to FEEL MUCH BETTER - NOW!

Patti, thanks. I'll see if I can reach her, but I think she's at work now.

Patti, I checked back, and found that Donna's last post on here was Wednesday morning at 9:47 AM, August 2nd.

Who mentioned the earthquake? Maybe Rachel and Donna are both without power.

Donna was online this morning but I missed her.

I'm still here, just reading mostly. My order of beads came today so I've been playing with them, lol. I was thinking Rachel is probably just taking a break for a couple of days, or her mom's computer is in use. I've been having some problems with mine at home, so haven't even bothered turning it on for a couple of days. I think I got the problems straightened out though. I thought I saw Rachel online (not today though) more recently than Wednesday morning but don't think she posted anywhere.

I didn't even hear about the earthquake so it couldn't have been bad enough for power outages. I don't remember hearing anything on the news about power outages in this area either from earthquake or other reasons.

jerseyangel Proficient

Donna--I'm glad to hear that you're ok and everything! Have fun with your beads :D

I'm around, so glad to hear that the storm has broken up Cecile, now if Rachel would check in.... :)

Hi Celia--I've missed you, too! :D

I'm around tonight--and all weekend. My husband and son are going to a car show in PA, and the weather is just too hot for me, so I'm staying home.

We did get the painting done, finally! The room is all back together, and I'm so happy with the way it turned out. I'll take some pictures and as soon as we get them on the computer, I'll email them to you.

How has everything been with you? Sorry to hear of your finger and hand stiffness. Sounds painful :( Glad that the storm is breaking up. Good news.

jerseyangel Proficient

I agree! What is happening to life as we know it???

Where is everybody else?

And... am I the ONLY one on here on a Friday night? Good gawwwddd

I'll have to sit here and entertain myself... it's fun... I can make myself laugh :o:lol:

:lol::lol: Yes, I bet you CAN make yourself laugh, you silly dingbat....

Patti, good for you on the room! it's so exhausting...I am getting estimate on someone ELSE (not my brother and friends) ripping out and disposing of the carpet...zoigs.....quite a job and me with a permanently injured arm from the couch accident of three months ago.... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

Yes, our town is quiet....do you think our President just got sick of us? Or did she crack under the pressure of a whole TOWN being formed and named after her? :( Say it ain't so, she loves her R-villians!

The dingos....currently they are passed out as they saw their two boyfriends today and had quite a romp (phew - stinky and they are having a bath soon - - mud bog filth)....but, they will quickly muster themselves to dispatch and find our Rachel, do not fear!

I nominate Cissie to call every safeway and look for Rachel......just describe her and, how old is she? maybe she doesn't wear her visor to work every day, though....

RACHEL, WHERE ARE YOU????? We are worried, send a sign, a smoke signal, give a shout-out....

Cecile, so glad the current storm is breaking up.

gotta go - am custom-mixing the paint how, all the gallons and quarts in the five-gallon drum......very exciting as one never knows what one will get in these instances....but it's usually perfect, every time...

crickets......tumbleweeds blowing through town - - remember that Tavi is not here to monitor those.....

AndreaB Contributor

Patti, Susan, Cecile,

It's good that you are all here. Figured I'd wait until Monday before trying to figure out a way to track down Rachel. There are a gazillion Safeway's in California and I'm not sure what area she works in. I'm hoping she just wasn't able to use the computer at her mom's for whatever reason and that she'll check in with us this weekend. Even if she was out having fun, she'd still be online once in awhile I would think.

I'll be checking in all weekend.

BTW....Mitch just got back from his appointment and is going to have to have surgery for the fissure. It won't be until September 13th. He will need to take Wed-Fri off from work and doesn't get sick time. He also doesn't have vacation...but it will be nice to have him home and he will be home for my birthday. I assume he'll still be able to eat. Hopefully he won't be on a liquid diet, hadn't thought of that before. I guess we'll find out more at the pre-op appointment when he has that.

Cecile,

Isn't there anything at that restaurant that won't make you sick. Can you take something to munch on and order a simple salad or something? I don't want you to get sick. :(

Hi @Dizzyma I note what @trents has commented about you possibly posting from the UK.  Just to let you know that am a coeliac based in the UK, so if that is the case, do let me know if can help you with any questions on the NHS provision for coeliacs.    If you are indeed based in the UK, and coeliac disease is confirmed, I would thoroughly recommend you join Coeliac UK, as they provide a printed food and drink guide and also a phone app which you can take shopping with you so you can find out if a product is gluten free or not. But one thing I would like to say to you, no matter where you live, is you mention that your daughter is anxious.  I was always a bit of a nervous, anxious child but before my diagnosis in mid-life my anxiety levels were through the roof.   My anxiety got steadily better when I followed the gluten-free diet and vitamin and mineral deficiencies were addressed.  Anxiety is very common at diagnosis, you may well find that her anxiety will improve once your daughter follows a strict gluten-free diet. Welcome to the celic.com community @Dizzyma! I'm assuming you are in the U.K. since you speak of your daughter's celiac disease blood tests as "her bloods".  Has her physician officially diagnosed her has having celiac disease on the results of her blood tests alone? Normally, if the ttg-iga blood test results are positive, a follow-up endoscopy with biopsy of the small bowel lining to check for damage would be ordered to confirm the results of "the bloods". However if the ttg-iga test score is 10x normal or greater, some physicians, particularly in the U.K., will dispense with the endoscopy/biopsy. If there is to be an endoscopy/biopsy, your daughter should not yet begin the gluten free diet as doing so would allow healing of the small bowel lining to commence which may result in a biopsy finding having results that conflict with the blood work. Do you know if an endoscopy/biopsy is planned? Celiac disease can have onset at any stage of life, from infancy to old age. It has a genetic base but the genes remain dormant until and unless triggered by some stress event. The stress event can be many things but it is often a viral infection. About 40% of the general population have the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% actually develop celiac disease. So, for most, the genes remain dormant.  Celiac disease is by nature an autoimmune disorder. That is to say, gluten ingestion triggers an immune response that causes the body to attack its own tissues. In this case, the attack happens in he lining of the small bowel, at least classically, though we now know there are other body systems that can sometimes be affected. So, for a person with celiac disease, when they ingest gluten, the body sends attacking cells to battle the gluten which causes inflammation as the gluten is being absorbed into the cells that make up the lining of the small bowel. This causes damage to the cells and over time, wears them down. This lining is composed of billions of tiny finger-like projections and which creates a tremendous surface area for absorbing nutrients from the food we eat. This area of the intestinal track is where all of our nutrition is absorbed. As these finger-like projections get worn down by the constant inflammation from continued gluten consumption before diagnosis (or after diagnosis in the case of those who are noncompliant) the efficiency of nutrient absorption from what we eat can be drastically reduced. This is why iron deficiency anemia and other nutrient deficiency related medical problems are so common in the celiac population. So, to answer your question about the wisdom of allowing your daughter to consume gluten on a limited basis to retain some tolerance to it, that would not be a sound approach because it would prevent healing of the lining of her small bowel. It would keep the fires of inflammation smoldering. The only wise course is strict adherence to a gluten free diet, once all tests to confirm celiac disease are complete.

Hi all, I have so many questions and feel like google is giving me very different information. Hoping I may get some more definite answers here. ok, my daughter has been diagnosed as a coeliac as her bloods show anti TTG antibodies are over 128. We have started her  on a full gluten free diet. my concerns are that she wasn’t actually physically sick on her regular diet, she had tummy issues and skin sores. My fear is that she will build up a complete intolerance to gluten and become physically sick if she has gluten. Is there anything to be said for keeping a small bit of gluten in the diet to stop her from developing a total intolerance?  also, she would be an anxious type of person, is it possible that stress is the reason she has become coeliac? I read that diagnosis later in childhood could be following a sickness or stress. How can she have been fine for the first 10 years and then become coeliac? sorry, I’m just very confused and really want to do right by her. I know a coeliac and she has a terrible time after she gets gluttened so just want to make sure going down a total gluten free road is the right choice. thank you for any help or advise xx
