Nini--How cool! I plan to listen to it on Sat. :D

What's the matter with me--you found a new job? That's great!!! What are you doing?

Guest nini

it's technically not a "new job" I'll be able to use office space in his clinic if I need to see clients in an office setting... we've been friends for about 4 years so this is just a new arrangement...

Nini, that is SOOO cool!! Yes, the streaming from that station seems to work. I went to the link and gave it a go.

Note to other non-IE users: I did have to switch from my default browser, Firefox, to the recommended IE. Worked seamlessly in IE. This is stated on the wgunam.com page, however.

Hey, could someone bump this thread early sat. a.m. so we can just click the link??? That'd be great.

I'll try to remember to bump it... my daughter's ballet recital is also that day so I may be a little flustered!

Nisla - make sure and tell them to keep it on the web for a while. Then maybe those of us that can't listen Sat. can hear it later. I'll be disappointed if I don't get to hear it.

I don't have any experience with this particular piece of software, but it looks simple enough and promising for this particular purpose. I'm assuming, Nini, that you're talking, not singing, so the quality issue a few reviewers noted probably would not be as obvious.

Guest nini

bump... I hope you can hear the streaming... or if you are in the Atlanta area, you can get this station in... :D

Guest nini

and of course I'm running Linux with Firefox, do not have another browser, and I can't get the streaming to work...

I also can't get that other program to work because I'm running Linux

I've got the station in on my boom box and the tape recorder set up to record... hopefully that will work!

Nini--BRAVO!!!! That was a great interview, and you were fantastic! I got goose-bumps when you talked about the chocolate chip cookie! You should be very proud ;)

Guest nini

Thank you so much! I'm glad you got to listen to it! I got it recorded on tape!!! How exciting is this???

jaten Enthusiast

Nini, that was awesome!!! About an hour's worth of intelligent discussion on Celiac and gluten intolerance. Woo hoo. Yeah, made me hungry talking about the good foods we have available. btw, what biscuit did you say you like?

Thanks for doing all of us a huge favor :)

Guest nini

the biscuit was the 1-2-3- Gluten Free Southern Glory Biscuit mix! LOL!

Thank you for listening! Thank you for the feedback too...

I just realized that Dr. Joe has the radio shows archived on his website! You can listen to the show that I was in if you scroll down to the 5-6-06 show with me Nisla Whetstone on gluten intolerance and wheat free living... it's wma format and windows media player should be able to play it just fine.

Celiac disease is the most likely cause, but here are articles about the other possible causes:

Hi @Atl222 As @trents points out, there could be many reasons for this biopsy result.  I am interested to know, is your gastroenterologist concerned?  Also, are your blood tests showing steady improvement over the years? I remember when I had my last biopsy, several years after diagnosis, mine came back with with raised lymphocytes but no villous damage, too! In my own case, my consultant wasn't remotely concerned - in fact, he said I might still get this result even if all I ever did was eat nothing but rice and water.   My coeliac blood tests were still steadily improving, albeit slowly, which was reassuring.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @Atl222! Yes, your increased lymphocytes could be in response to oats or it could possibly be cross contamination from gluten that is getting into your diet from some unexpected source but not enough to damage the villi. And I'm certain that increased lymphocytes can be caused by other things besides celiac disease or gluten/oats exposure. See attachment. But you might try eliminating oats to start with and possibly dairy for a few months and then seek another endoscopy/biopsy to see if there was a reduction in lymphocyte counts.

This is a solid, well-reasoned approach. You’re right that “koji” by itself doesn’t indicate gluten status, and the risk really does come down to which grain is used to culture it. The fact that you directly contacted Eden Foods and received a clear statement that their koji is made from rice only, with no wheat or barley, is meaningful due diligence—especially since Eden has a long-standing reputation for transparency. While the lack of gluten labeling can understandably give pause, manufacturer confirmation like this is often what people rely on for traditionally fermented products. As always, trusting your body after trying it is reasonable, but based on the information you gathered, your conclusion makes sense.
