alright so i think i have lost the war that my body has been fighting, everyday seems to be a step more back, yes my stomic is not hurting near as much, but i have lots of spasims in my instines, my bathroom movements have moved back to a C like state, but stuff comes its just hard and very slimy also comes with what looks like snot. my brain fog has been getting worse each day and only very rarely lifted, and i am getting more and more tired every day. I really dont see myself getting better i tried to talk to my doctor about it and he keeps saying its from beeing gluten sensative and wont see me. i think something else is wrong none of this is right or feels right. and to make matters worse(very personal) i have a lump coming off my left boy, looks like a bunched up earth worm no clue what this is but my doctor does not seem to be concernd and wont look at it. gah everything is just constantly falling apart

As has been said before, there are many ups and downs in the healing process. You will have times where you feel like crap. I had about 3 weeks there where I could barely function because I was so tired. Hang in there, you're probably just detoxing and healing. Make sure everything is gluten-free. You may have other intolerances as well.

As for the lumpy nut, you probably should have it looked at. The earthworm you feel is most likely your epididymis, which may feel like a lump if you're not used to examining yourself. You are in the age range (usually 20-39) for testicular cancer (not to scare you) but if it feels suspicious, insist that it gets checked out.

Lister,

Are your parents near by and do you have contact with them? Do they know your health concerns? Surely you are not traveling this road by yourself. Do you have any support other than this site? You need some personal contact people that you can talk to as well as here. Ya got some buds close to you?

everyone thinks im crazy because im obsessing over everything

eKatherine Apprentice

You are obsessing over everything. You need to not get caught up in little details. Step back and let the big picture start to happen before you rush to judgments.

jerseyangel Proficient

Lister, my friend, you are not crazy. You have had to cope with a lot of change in a pretty short amount of time. It's easy to obsess about these things when we are desparately trying to feel better, and easy to get discouraged when we don't see progress. Right now, you need to be concerned with keeping yourself gluten-free. You are doing great with that! Worring about what may or may not happen in the future is not doing you any good. Don't dwell on that--you're lucky in that you are still young. You caught this before it could do a lot more damage. I have probably 20 years worth of damage from being undiagnosed for so long. I'm doing better after a year--I most likely have another year of healing to go. Sometimes after feeling better for a while, other intolerances can crop up. Do you eat a lot of dairy or soy or corn? Those can be a problem to some people, especially dairy while healing. Just something to think about.

Regarding the lump--has the doctor seen it, or is he just brushing you off? If he has not seen it, make an appt. and demand that he take a look. This is not something you want to fool around with.

I was going to suggest (or I AM suggesting) that if you are not happy with the care that you are getting from this Dr., and it sounds like you are not, fire him and get a new one... I know that's not easy, but even though you may be obsessing about every little thing, you have the right to be taken seriously and not ignored by your Dr. remember, HE works for YOU!

You've really got to try to take a step back, breathe and relax a little, a lot of what you are going through is the healing process, some of it is that now you are just more hyper aware of every little thing your body is doing, and if you weren't paying attention to it before, a lot of it can seem weird and frightening!

but still, you should have a Dr. that doesn't dismiss you all the time... He should at the very least take the time to calm your fears...

Sorry for injecting humor, I actually agree, its just I keep having flashbacks to the Seinfeld episode where Elaine tries getting the Dr. to see her and end up having her medical records passed from Dr. to Dr.

:D That episode went thru my mind more than once when I was making the "doctor rounds" while trying to figure out why I was sick all the time--I would try to sneak a look at my chart, to see of there were any "personal observations" on it! They don't really do that, do they?

its not that im not happy with the service, hes a great guy and he really is trying to help me out without robbing me of my wallet. Its just im looking for answers for things and whenever i am looking for answers he seems to be out for another convention ( granted most lecquores and conventions hes been going to are about celiac and gluten sensativity so he can better assist me and others, but its like i dont know whats going on with myself and hes one of the few people that can tell me something that could calm me down u know? family/friends have no clue whats going on nor do they understand in really any way

loraleena Contributor

Lister in regard to the bumps do they hurt or itch? Have you had them before? I would get that checked out. It could just be your body detoxing from not eating gluten, but you should make sure.

Guest nini

the bumps could be as simple as a heat rash...

kabowman Explorer

I still go through periods when I obsess about everything. My hubby dropped a food storage container on the floor and was going to still use it without wiping it out or anything, he ended up throwing it into the sink and getting fresh. I was trying to find out what new thing was making me so sick and having to live on imodium for a month and there he goes, not being careful.

Anyway, we all go through that occasionally. I found my brain fog was due to too much sugar and even a small amount now will make me crash - almost litterally pass out. You will get all this worked out.

Lister Rising Star

im thinking as have felt very ill today with lots of heartburn the olive oil was to blame to much oil. as for hte bumps they slightly itch but dont burn

chrissy Collaborator

lister, you remind me just a bit of my oldest son----and myself when i was in my days of severe anxiety. i worried about everything (as does my son) i finally realized that there were certain thing i had to do to make myself feel better---regardless of what other people thought, or how irrational they seemed to other people. just one example-----i would get feeling like i had a lump in my throat. i knew there was nothing there, but i needed the doc to look in my throat and tell me everything was ok----then the physical sensation would go away. you are dealing with plenty as you try to recover from celiac damage------a little reassurance about physical things will probably go along way in helping you right now. maybe you could find another doc that you feel comfortable with to fill in on the times when your regular doc is gone?

my son quite often will mention symptoms he has to me and wants to know if these things are normal----and most of the time i am able to reassure him that everything is OK.

Lister Rising Star

if i could afford to go to another doc i would, but this current doc sees me for free now, and lets me call him when hes working ot have over the phone talks when he can without having to see me, and even then he slips me past the front office to avoid me having to pay the upfront 50 doller fee. I hope everything is alright with me, i dont personaly know i meen the poping noises anyone get those? its like i can hear and feel pops inside me and drips, its really wierd. ugh today was crappy felt like crap all day until around 2 when i think ( a massive backup of stuff) finally came out of me and i felt way way better some how the stools lodged in me where making me physicaly ill and i could not get them out. im feeling pretty good right now though besides some miner stomic irretation but its becoming so daily that im almost ignoring it now. anyways time to go figure out what doc bills to start paying this month

As long as it's not Imodium liquid, I just heard it wasn't gluten-free. I lived off the stuff for years.

loraleena Contributor

I think you should look into parasites, bacteria or candida overgrowth.

Nancym Enthusiast

The wormy lump on the testicle might be a varicose seal. That's a varicose vein on the testicles.

Lister Rising Star

already had a bactera/parasite stool culture nothing showed up abnormal. as for the vein yeah thats what im thinking also, but now i have 5 red dots on my scrotum and going up towards shaft, like almost like zits but with no heads, not really sure wtf that is, thinking maybe a heatrash but its been 2 days now and they have not gone away

penguin Community Regular

You're probably feeling the epididymis and/or vas deferens. Here's a lovely diagram of them Open Original Shared Link

The red dots may be broken capillaries, and they'll go away after a while. Do your kitties have fleas, by chance? Their bites leave red marks

Lister Rising Star

yes the kitties have fleas, but i dont have any flea bites anywhere on me, besides unless thats what those are, and if so lol, why did the fleas go for me nuts, also the red bumps dont itch or burn so they are really confusing me

Lister Rising Star

alright so now i worry again, the bumps have not gone away but also know, on the side, where the thigh attachs to the area where your sexual organs are ( not sure what area is called) on the right side it is sore to the tuch, does not hurt but if i tuch it it does. feels like under the skin in that area is inflamed :( man i really hope nothings wrong

loraleena Contributor

Lister, I would get the bumps checked out. You want to rule out stds. Also check into candida overgrowth - this could cause all your symptoms including rashes!

Desperately need a vitamin D supplement. I've reacted to most brands I've tried.

No coincidence. Recent revisions to gluten challenge guidelines call for the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten (about the amount in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of 3 weeks. If possible, I would extend that two weeks to ensure valid testing.
    • SilkieFairy
Thank you both for the replies. I decided to bring back gluten so I can do the blood test. Today is Day #2 of the Challenge. Yesterday I had about 3 slices of whole wheat bread and I woke up with urgent diarrhea this morning. It was orange, sandy and had the distinctive smell that I did not have when I was briefly gluten free. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but the brain fog is back and I feel very tired.

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?
