What Are Your Brands & Flavors Of Gluten Free Ice Cream ?

I'm just curious, what are your favorite brands and flavors of gluten free icecream or frozen yougert? I heard directly from the Turkey Hill company that all of their flavors of icecream are gluten free unless it has cookie, graham cracker, brownie, etc. pieces in it. I'm still paranoid to try it though because i don't want to get glutened by cross contamination.

Edy's, except for the obvious ones like cookie dough. I buy the light ones. Really good.

Haagen Dazs creme brulee, can't have it anymore because of the casein though. All their flavors are gluten free except for the obvious. Chocolate sorbet for the others like me who need casein free.

I buy Breyers since it is a Unilever company and will disclose gluten products in the ingredient label.

I always go with Haagen Dazs too, but some of the not so obvious ones have gluten like Tripple Chocolate (there is wheat flour in the truffles) so you need to always read labels.

My favorite flavors are Mango, Mayan Chocolate, and Dulce De Leche

Haagen Dazs creme brulee...I keep pints of that in my freezer. The best comfort food. Carla I am sorry to hear you can no longer have it.

Breyers, Edy's, Ben & Jerry's are all my favorite. I also found Hersheys Cotton Candy ice cream that I love.

Chapman's buckets has Gluten Free right on the lid, and all of their smaller boxes will have gluten free before the end of the year. Very good ice cream.

I don't know if you can get it in the US though

I don't do dairy now, but when I did--Edy's was hands-down the favorite too. If you go on their website--they identify gluten-free flavors as gluten-free in the description.

Has anyone tried the new Breyer's Cyclones? As far as I know, there is only 1 flavor we can have (caramel cup swirl or something like that), but mmmm is it good! I missed the "Blizzard" type treats, and this is pretty darn tasty.

Now that I am eating dairy again I can't wait to try these.

My favorites are:

Haagen Dazs - Coffee Ice Cream (yet ironicly I hate coffee), Rocky Road

Ben & Jerry's - Chunky Monkey, Cherry Garcia and my latest discovery by them, Pistachio.

If you like Pistachio ice cream (even if you normally don't but you like pistachios), you must try this. It is the most incredible pistachio ice cream ever. It has whole pistachios in it and it's not that scary green color. It's become my new favorite.

I eat Open Original Shared Link. I don't eat much soy, but this is one case where I make an exception. It's very, very low in fat and calories and tastes amazing. I think their "Swiss Dark Chocolate" flavor is the best tasting chocolate ice cream I've tried in a long time.

Chapman's in a box is marked Gluten Free as well as Peanut/Nut free - all important in our family. The taste is great and lots of variety.

Perry's has a lot of gluten-free flavors, and now have gluten-free clearly labelled on the package! Edy's is yummy as well.

Blue Bunny Ice Cream is all gluten-free except the obvious ones. Their Bunny Tracks is sooooo good.

My husband is a huge fan of Edy's Mint Chocolate Chip. It is awesome!

proger Newbie

most blue bell flavors are ok. my favorite is banana split!

also, philly swirl makes some popsicle like treats - both the fruit ones and fudgy ones are awesome!

and baskin robbins has several flavors we can have. my favorite is gold medal ribbon.

I am absolutely in love with Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey. Just the thought of it brings on the drool! I think my husband wants to take out stock in their company. Also Blue Bunny is good. I'm a vanilla type person so I don't try too many of the different flavors they have.

I've had gluten-like reactions to even the most basic Breyer's and Hagen-Dazs flavors (including the ones that Wild Oats Grocery (this is a grocery local to Portland, OR, USA I think) says are gluten-free). I'm wondering if I'm dairy intolerant? I may have to look at that...

Has anyone else had reactions to ice creams that are designated gluten-free?

As an ice cream lover I'm addicted to Soy Delicious and WholeSoy brands, all flavors gluten free and casien free. Ever tried taking casien out of your diet? If you're finding reactions to other dairy foods good chance you cant have casien (milk protien) either.

Thanks Nellie. I haven't had reactions to cheese ('cept lots of snot). I tried Haagen Dazs' Dulche de Leche last night and it treated me just fine. Must have been something else I was eating at the same time.

Josh.

Wheatwacked, are you speaking of the use of potassium bromide and and azodicarbonamide as dough modifiers being controlling factor for what? Do you refer to celiac reactions to gluten or thyroid disease, kidney disease, GI cancers?
    • Scott Adams
Excess iodine supplements can cause significant health issues, primarily disrupting thyroid function. My daughter has issues with even small amounts of dietary iodine. While iodine is essential for thyroid hormone production, consistently consuming amounts far above the tolerable upper limit (1,100 mcg/day for adults) from high-dose supplements can trigger both hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, worsen autoimmune thyroid diseases like Hashimoto's, and lead to goiter. Other side effects include gastrointestinal distress. The risk is highest for individuals with pre-existing thyroid conditions, and while dietary iodine rarely reaches toxic levels, unsupervised high-dose supplementation is dangerous and should only be undertaken with medical guidance to avoid serious complications. It's best to check with your doctor before supplementing iodine.

In Europe they have banned several dough modifiers potassium bromide and and azodicarbonamide.  Both linked to cancers.  Studies have linked potassium bromide to kidney, thyroid, and gastrointestinal cancers.  A ban on it in goes into effect in California in 2027. I suspect this, more than a specific strain of wheat to be controlling factor.  Sourdough natural fermentation conditions the dough without chemicals. Iodine was used in the US as a dough modifier until the 1970s. Since then iodine intake in the US dropped 50%.  Iodine is essential for thyroid hormones.  Thyroid hormone use for hypothyroidism has doubled in the United States from 1997 to 2016.   Clinical Thyroidology® for the Public In the UK, incidently, prescriptions for the thyroid hormone levothyroxine have increased by more than 12 million in a decade.  The Royal Pharmaceutical Society's official journal Standard thyroid tests will not show insufficient iodine intake.  Iodine 24 Hour Urine Test measures iodine excretion over a full day to evaluate iodine status and thyroid health. 75 year old male.  I tried adding seaweed into my diet and did get improvement in healing, muscle tone, skin; but in was not enough and I could not sustain it in my diet at the level intake I needed.  So I supplement 600 mcg Liquid Iodine (RDA 150 to 1000 mcg) per day.  It has turbocharged my recovery from 63 years of undiagnosed celiac disease.  Improvement in healing a non-healing sebaceous cyst. brain fog, vision, hair, skin, nails. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis celiac disease experience exacerbation of the rash with iodine. The Wolff-Chaikoff Effect Crying Wolf?

same! how amazing you have a friend who has celiac disease. i find myself wishing i had someone to talk about it with other than my partner (who has been so supportive regardless)
    • RMJ
They don’t give a sample size (serving size is different from sample size) so it is hard to tell just what the result means.  However, the way the result is presented  does look like it is below the limit of what their test can measure, so that is good.
