Hi, I used a high adhesion primer, then regular paint, mis-tints actually, first orange which I first painted the whole floor with, then I taped off wide sections so it would look like planks of wood, then the fuschia which I mixed with glaze and tints and after applying it I used a wood graining tool, then I glazed the whole thing with varathane tinted in shades of red and brown twice. It now looks like a fake wood floor but, though I say it myself, a fabulous fake that glows like real wood does and bounces the light around. I was amazed at how well it turned out. I plan to do all the rooms in our house the same.

That sounds really pretty. Pictures? Patti, I would like to see pictures of yours too. Do I need to pm my email or do you two want to post a picture to your avatar? Of course if you have multiple pictures, then I send my email. :P

Rachel,

Hey, we are going to be gone tomorrow....I don't want to miss your picture(s). Are you going to post tonight? We made last minute plans to head towards southern oregon to go the wilflife safari and noahs ark exhibit in Winston. It will be an all day thing. I must be crazy taking the kids on an all day, mostly driving excursion.

Ummm....do you really want me to answer that??? :P

The nuggets have done you in again.... :(

Do you think anyone will let me forget???:lol:

The Dave was gonna take a pic of me rock climbing tonight...so you guys could see....we forgot about it though...no pics this time. I dont think its such a good idea for him to be snapping pics when I'm 40 ft. up clinging to rocks though.

the nuggetts.... but there were hardly any, NOT the usual quantity I eat....I made them take the bag away.... :o

Rachel The Dave can take photos if he locks his belay device....OR get someone else to take them! so glad you enjoyed climbing.....you may become addicted, it is a fantastic workout that doens't even FEEL like working out, so it's fun!

My house is completely torn apart, I am trying to get the rest of the floors painted but in our tiny house it is necessary to move everything to do anything. <_< I realized I have to feel well to live in a mess and so this chaos is actually a sign that I am feeling better.

Oh Dear Gaaaaaaaaaawd Rinne, I know this feeling.....rugs got delayed in being torn up as guests were here....now must face the inevitable and am horrified.....

but lots of ARTISTICNESS today! yay!

Also, I have a suggestion for a theme song for Rachelville: "There's a Place for Us" (from West Side Story movie).
'

excellent.....and thank you Andrea, for printing out the words.....BTW your baby boy is SO cute!

Chelsea - love the hair!

Oh Susie, I am so attatched to calling you Susie, it will be hard to change it to Dingo...but I will call you what you want to be called..... sorry you aren't feeling well, those darn nuggets  But I am so glad you are having so much fun with your house guests :) Come back to us soon!

Julie - you MUST still call me susie Q - love it - - others can call me dingo or whatever....it don't matter. ;)

My wife is thrilled as I finally got into the branch I wanted, butnot so thrilled about the year apart thing.

Ryan - I am both ecstatic - - and slightly devastated for you - - it's bittersweet, congratulations and we will be sending prayers your way. The reunions will be all the sweeter..... :)

hi everybody.....just a pop-in...my friends just left...very, very sad. :( not only is the house too quiet, BUT we saw R's brother at a yard sale this morning....so he filled me in on everything, and now I am TOO sad, and praying for recovery.....the wound that never entirely heals (the broken heart from my ex-boyfriend-almost-fiance, spring of this year, if there is POSSIBLY - could there be? anyone who doens't know about my heinous broken heart of this year).....

I gotta go have a big sob now....and do some serious praying......

see you guys.....

Good that you got rid of the temptuous nuggets. Wish I could say "out of sight, out of mind"...but I know it aint so...and I cannot tell a lie.

Bummer about running into R's brother though....only a minor set-back. You were doing so well...its ok to have an emotional day now and then. You're still healing from the heartbreak and the Celiac so you are entitled to have lots of sad days....but the main thing is that there are alot more good days in between. I can tell you've improved alot as far as that goes...lots of laughter and good times are in store for you. :)

Just remember to step away from the Nuggets....they will suck you into the vortex and basically make you feel like crap. Maybe not one or two now and then but is this really possible??? I dunno....I cant do it no matter how hard I try...just ate about 8 slices of EnerG bread.

Andrea, sorry you have a restless baby tonight. Poor thing. :(

Everyone....send good vibes to The Dave.....On Monday he's taking a big test. He'll pass on his own (he's not really an idiot)....but good vibes cant hurt. :)

Good vibrations coming his way....

back to reading....

For some reason last night I wasnt scared of the height....probably because I knew nothing would happened if I fell. One year my roommate and I went on the roof to watch fireworks...we ended up not being able to see the fireworks and not being able to get down. It was so easy getting up there but another story coming down. We just sat there not knowing what to do. Our neighbor finally noticed that it was late and we were stuck on the roof....he brought a ladder. I think he thought we were kind of lame for getting stuck up there.

OMGOSH!!! The same thing happened to my uncle and I (he is 1 year older than me by the way) when we were kids, lol. We climbed up on the roof to watch fireworks and couldn't get down, lol. Both our dads came looking for us, lol. I think we got in trouble.

My Mom wants me to put up a picture of me getting ready for the wedding. I'm in the bathroom...I think picking up something off the floor...she snapped a pic and the toilet is right behind my head. She said this is her favorite pic of me from that day.

She said noone will notice the toilet in the background.

I actually thought it would be quite fitting for the Celiac board.:lol:

Yah, we've all seen and done that before (the toilet), lol. Would love to see the picture though.

Oh, Susie Q, time will heal, but it's awful in the meantime! It's okay to be sad...it's okay to even have a couple of nuggets...a couple. Only a couple. Are you still going to the Stanford conference?

Okay, so the question is what do I want to do with the rest of my life, lol:

I'd love to spend a month at an artist's retreat somewhere out in the country or mountains or something (not that I'm that good, but it'd be a good excuse to actually paint instead of doing other stuff)...

I'd love to go on a cruise around the world (been to Europe and the Carribbean already)...

I'd love to spend a week at a spa, where they would also take care of my gluten/casein free stuff :)

I'd like to visit Alaska (cruise would be good)

Train trip across the United States

Sky diving...I can go tandem diving with a co-worker who is certified

Remodel my condo

Make a living off of selling jewelry cuz I've discovered I LOVE it and well, am addicted to beads

Spend Christmas snowed in in a cabin somewhere with a cozy fire with people who are close to me

Spend a week hiking through Vermont in the fall (did this already but we just missed the fall colors)

Learn to like yoga

Visit Italy, France, Canada, Ireland, Scotland (LOVED IT and want to go back), Greece and many others

Visit Disneyworld

Stay in a castle somewhere

rinne Apprentice

The first thing that pops to mind is meet all of you. :)

Then:

I'd like to start a business that supported right livelihood.

I'd like to get to know my grandchild, arriving in November.

I'd like to travel, especially to Japan and India.

I'd like to grow a little town with friends so that when retirement comes round I'll have a country community.

I'd like to return to cooking and entertaining my friends, I miss that.

you can't be 20 pages behind, there are only 18 pages!

You missed the roller skating talk and the changing of the avatars, not sure exactly, not yet as bad as the OMG thread which has like 150 pages .

Man, I'm so confused!!! Aren't we on page 50 now??

Friends....We need an index of what's on each page. Who's going to organize that for us?? I love Friends...still watch it when I can.

Things to do yet in life? Sheesh...that's a deep question! I'll have to think about that awhile!!

I'll tell you what's NOT going to happen:

Skydiving

motorcycle racing [regular motorcycle riding is OK]

Triathlons

Skiing [bad shoulders, no strength]

Singing at Carnegie Hall

Kissing a pig

Martial Arts lessons

Rock climbing

[see all the physical stuff I can't do is easy to cross off!

We decided to switch plans for tomorrow and go miniature golfing instead.

Just too long of a drive and probabl not enough sleep for the baby boy. He hasn't ad decent naps today which doesn't help.

Rachel,

That's a beautiful picture! I love it!

To write under your picture go to profile and the first line under your address stuff in the first section is where you type. I forget what it says....I'll be back and tell you exactly. :P

Ok, it's custom member title (or something like that).

I forgot already. It must be brain freeze due to Racheling ice cream today.....just had my second bowl. One was after lunch, one after dinner.

Yeah....I'm telling you...me in a dress....its a rareity.

It was at my Mom's wedding...I think 2002. I think I've only worn a dress once or twice since then but no pics. This is the last time I wore a dress and have pictures to prove it. :)

I'm gonna put up more pics...I'll leave this one up for a bit though. My mom wants me to put up a different pic from that day but my head is right next to a toilet.

Stephanie....what a CUTE baby!!!

Andrea...thanks for the instructions...I'll be trying to figure that out now. Luckily I'm not too brainfogged. :D

Rachel!!!!!!!!!! Love the picture :)

It doesn't come off as purple though on the computer screen, at least on my computer screen, maybe more lavenderish.

Looks like you are concentrating on not tripping and falling walking in your heels, am I right??

You look gorgeous!

Thanks for putting it up :)

Rachel, what a wonderful picture. I knew you were already pretty, but you look so feminine in this pic. I also wear many baseball caps, but still like to dress up on occasion. You should do it more often. Now I want to see the new sundress you bought a few weeks ago

And yes, the first thing I did, was look and see if I could see the toilet LOL.

I've been buying my seeds and nuts from Prana Organics for a number of years because the products have been GFCO-certified. I just got a new order delivered of their flax and sunflower seeds, and it turns out that they are no longer GFCO-certified. Instead, it just has a generic "Gluten Free" symbol on the package. I reached out to them to ask what protocols/standards/testing they have in place. The person that wrote back said that they are now certifying their gluten free status in-house, but that she couldn't answer my questions related to standards because the person with that info was on vacation. Not very impressed, especially since it still says on their website that they are GFCO-certified. Buyer beware!

Hi @Dizzyma I note what @trents has commented about you possibly posting from the UK.  Just to let you know that am a coeliac based in the UK, so if that is the case, do let me know if can help you with any questions on the NHS provision for coeliacs.    If you are indeed based in the UK, and coeliac disease is confirmed, I would thoroughly recommend you join Coeliac UK, as they provide a printed food and drink guide and also a phone app which you can take shopping with you so you can find out if a product is gluten free or not. But one thing I would like to say to you, no matter where you live, is you mention that your daughter is anxious.  I was always a bit of a nervous, anxious child but before my diagnosis in mid-life my anxiety levels were through the roof.   My anxiety got steadily better when I followed the gluten-free diet and vitamin and mineral deficiencies were addressed.  Anxiety is very common at diagnosis, you may well find that her anxiety will improve once your daughter follows a strict gluten-free diet. Cristiana

Welcome to the celic.com community @Dizzyma! I'm assuming you are in the U.K. since you speak of your daughter's celiac disease blood tests as "her bloods".  Has her physician officially diagnosed her has having celiac disease on the results of her blood tests alone? Normally, if the ttg-iga blood test results are positive, a follow-up endoscopy with biopsy of the small bowel lining to check for damage would be ordered to confirm the results of "the bloods". However if the ttg-iga test score is 10x normal or greater, some physicians, particularly in the U.K., will dispense with the endoscopy/biopsy. If there is to be an endoscopy/biopsy, your daughter should not yet begin the gluten free diet as doing so would allow healing of the small bowel lining to commence which may result in a biopsy finding having results that conflict with the blood work. Do you know if an endoscopy/biopsy is planned? Celiac disease can have onset at any stage of life, from infancy to old age. It has a genetic base but the genes remain dormant until and unless triggered by some stress event. The stress event can be many things but it is often a viral infection. About 40% of the general population have the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% actually develop celiac disease. So, for most, the genes remain dormant.  Celiac disease is by nature an autoimmune disorder. That is to say, gluten ingestion triggers an immune response that causes the body to attack its own tissues. In this case, the attack happens in he lining of the small bowel, at least classically, though we now know there are other body systems that can sometimes be affected. So, for a person with celiac disease, when they ingest gluten, the body sends attacking cells to battle the gluten which causes inflammation as the gluten is being absorbed into the cells that make up the lining of the small bowel. This causes damage to the cells and over time, wears them down. This lining is composed of billions of tiny finger-like projections and which creates a tremendous surface area for absorbing nutrients from the food we eat. This area of the intestinal track is where all of our nutrition is absorbed. As these finger-like projections get worn down by the constant inflammation from continued gluten consumption before diagnosis (or after diagnosis in the case of those who are noncompliant) the efficiency of nutrient absorption from what we eat can be drastically reduced. This is why iron deficiency anemia and other nutrient deficiency related medical problems are so common in the celiac population. So, to answer your question about the wisdom of allowing your daughter to consume gluten on a limited basis to retain some tolerance to it, that would not be a sound approach because it would prevent healing of the lining of her small bowel. It would keep the fires of inflammation smoldering. The only wise course is strict adherence to a gluten free diet, once all tests to confirm celiac disease are complete.

Hi all, I have so many questions and feel like google is giving me very different information. Hoping I may get some more definite answers here. ok, my daughter has been diagnosed as a coeliac as her bloods show anti TTG antibodies are over 128. We have started her  on a full gluten free diet. my concerns are that she wasn’t actually physically sick on her regular diet, she had tummy issues and skin sores. My fear is that she will build up a complete intolerance to gluten and become physically sick if she has gluten. Is there anything to be said for keeping a small bit of gluten in the diet to stop her from developing a total intolerance?  also, she would be an anxious type of person, is it possible that stress is the reason she has become coeliac? I read that diagnosis later in childhood could be following a sickness or stress. How can she have been fine for the first 10 years and then become coeliac? sorry, I’m just very confused and really want to do right by her. I know a coeliac and she has a terrible time after she gets gluttened so just want to make sure going down a total gluten free road is the right choice. thank you for any help or advise xx
