Hi!

I am desparately trying to figure out what's caused some symptoms to come back that had been GONE for months! Lower Back pain, food in stool, GI stuff...) Do mushrooms cause trouble for anyone? Also, just finished a round of Zithromax for bronchial infection and I guess that could have screwed me up, but it seems like not this much. I am afraid I'm going right back to the beginning again and very depressed. Can't seem to find any source of a glutening. Thanks for any help.

As far as gluten in concerned I have never had a problem with them, I eat alot of them. But, I have got sick before because the mushrooms were bad, so it may be that. Hope you get to feeling better. The Z pack always effects me so I do not use them anymore.

I was just on antibiotics for an absessed tooth and they made me really really sick, just like gluten. I wasn't eating anything but fluids, my mouth was so messed up I couldn't chew so theres no way I got gluten, but it was just like it. Took a few days for me to stop feeling sick.

mushrooms are a fungal maybe thats what is upsetting you because they are interfering with your tummys natural balance if you get what i mean, its kind of like those probiotic drinks but mushrooms got bad fungal or so im told, i suffer badly with thrush and was told to stay away from them as they contain bad bacteria which helps bad things grow in your belly, its kind of the same thing with antibiotics ( there fungal right) how many times have we had thrush from a coarse of antbiotics.:angry: it makes sense when you think about it. dont know ig there is any proper evidence to back it up tho.

Jennyj, Elonwy and Taz-

Thank you very much. I suspect the antis have me "off". Also have weird fuzzy feeling in back of my throat that seems to come and go these days- hate it. Maybe my whole system is out of whack. I'll just soldier on and hope it gets back at least to where I was. Thank you so much!

You may have the good bacteria killed off in your intestines from the antobiotics. May need to take some acidophilus caps for a few months to get the good ones back. anyone who has a mold allergy needs to stay away from mushrooms or any other type of mold. that cam bring on the 'thrush or other versions of candida'. "Been there, done that" I am so glad I have not had bronchitis yet this summer from mold or etc, inhalant allergies, seems like I have improved that way since being gluten free. That is so wonderful!! Best of luck to you all too. :):D:) evie

Thank you, Evie- I used to test positive to mold allergy, but this spring was negative. Gosh, who knows? But that makes some sense in regard to the mushrooms. I am taking the probiotics as well. Thank you so much for your thoughts!

HI ocean girl

I know this is an old thread and I don't kno if you'll even get this message but I thought I would try. I'm new to this site. finding it very supportive to read all of everyones stories that are so like my own. I had a glutened type reaction to mushrooms and talked to my dr. He said that mushrooms have a protein in them that can be hard to digest. I used to eat them like crazy, but the purer I get the more i react to different things I used to be able to eat. The fungal thing is also an issue. Hoping to add them back in some day. Hope for you it was more the Antibiotics and your able to eat them again. Lin

Lin,

Thank you! I have just seen this post at last and I thank you very much! I hope I can add them back someday, too. Good luck to you!

so, i always wondered about this also, figured it was just the yeast that bothered me. I was watching television this morning and saw this:

Lavendeldame,

Hi! Wow, here's a blast from the past! Thank you for your information posted today. That is tres interesting. I wonder if the gliadin molecule actually gets near the growing mushroom. These are the kind of scientific questions that make me wish I had a head for organic chemistry! From what I currently understand, it is deep inside the wheat germ and that's the part protected within the seed? Don't quote me; I'm asking, actually, because I forget all of this stuff sometimes. Sad, I know, the daughter of a biologist and chemist-sigh.

Mushrooms are a fungus, and many people can't eat fungus foods. Long before I knew about gluten, I had problems with mushrooms. Not even 20 minutes, and I would get so sick from mushrooms.

I cant digest mushrooms, they make an apearance again if you get what i mean(in my stool)

I have not been able to tolerate mushrooms for years. I would wake up a few hours after eating them and lie awake in pain until they passed. I was told by someone that mushrooms (particularly the fancier ones, not the plain white supermarket ones) contain mild toxins. I always figured it was that and haven't dared to eat a mushroom since. I was diagnosed with celiac last winter and forgot to mention this to the GI. I have wondered if once my digestive tract was healed, I would be able to tolerate mushrooms. From most of the answers on this thread, it seems not...

Over 4 years in, I now tolerate mushrooms but not lots and lots- in moderation.

Mushrooms make me sick (not you, mushroom ;-)). I used to be able to eat them and then I realized that everytime I ate them I felt sick. I started eating these veggie burgers at a local restaurant and would get sick after eating them. Didn't realize they had mushrooms in them at the time. Once I figured that out it totally made sense why they made me sick. I stay away. If I end up eating something made with cream of mushroom soup, I'm usually ok, but anything else with mushrooms and I feel awful.

Just thought I'd add in that mushrooms are a problematic food for people with FODMAP problems, as they contain mannitol, which is a sugal alcohol like sorbitol. It's a type of poorly digested complex sugar. It could easily cause classic GI problems like bloating. I was always fine with a small amount of them, but never like mushrooms enough to have a big serve.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
