Julie- Are you a baseball fan? Are you excited about Colorado? I am NOT a baseball lover- give me my HOCKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I know- that's like treason where I live (in Red Sox Nation).

Not really, I used to be a huge Brave fan. I'm happy for the Rockies though, we have sucked for a lot of years  so it's good to see and the city has gone mad, the whole state has gone mad!

Sorry so many are under the weather. Amanda and Bev, and Sarah, you guys feel better :)

9 days until the wedding?? OMG it is coming up fast. Keeping fingers crossed for great weather, and for you to feel better!

I've seen Carla in other threads, but she's been feeling so good lately she has been out and about and away from the computer :D:D

Patti- I'm glad I am not alone in seeing the humoUr of Dirty Sexy Money :lol: There are quite a few touching moments as well. I love that actor from Six Feet Under too

Nikki- love the meerkat avatar. I have wanted to watch that series called Meerkat manor on the Discovery channel I think it is, they are so cute.

Thanks Julie! I actually am doing a little better today. Less groggy, less pukey.

Amanda, yes, it's absolutely worth taking some time to get better!!!

It's rainy here, too, which is good, we need it so bad. My dog is such a big sissy, she doesn't want to go outside to pee. I asked her, "What's wrong, don't remember what rain is like?"

I talk to my dog all the time. She's been acting all Cujo-y the past week, and I had a sit-down talk with her last night. I told her, "Ok furface, I'm saving my money up to get you a hysterectomy, and possibly some doggy Prozac. So just try to chill for a while, ok?"

She seemed cool with that.

BEAUTIFUL weather here...sun and 20 degrees C. We're praying to the sun gods for the wedding day, Amanda...and yes, stay home tomorrow. All you'll probably miss is a few flatulous moments from your cubie. :o:lol:

I have volunteered for things already, so I'm not offering to wash RS's leotard. It's all yours, Queen Bev! A much worse job, I feel, would be washing his hair. He's got quite a mop of ridiculousness.

A good one that is circulating electronically:

George Bush goes to a primary school to talk to the kids to get in a little PR.

After his talk he offers question time. One little boy puts up his

hand and George asks him his name.

"
Stanley
," responds the little boy.

"And what is your question, Stanley ?"

"I have 4 questions:

First, why did the USA invade Iraq without the support of the UN?

Second, why are you President when Al Gore got more votes?

Third, whatever happened to Osama Bin Laden?"

Fourth, why are we so worried about gay-marriage when

I'm a Braves fan, too!!! We lived there for 71/2 years and caught the fever  We used to take the boys to games as well as my parents when they visited. My dad is a big-time Braves fan--and he lives in Syracuse. I have a 1991 Team Ball--signed by the whole team--it was a Christmas gift from Mark. All the greats--Nixon, Pendelton, Gant, Lemke,--the great pitchers......do you remember the "slide" (Sid Bream--one of the greatest moments in baseball history)?

Lots of tongue in cheek humor on Dirty Sexy Money--and I love Peter Krause, too. He was really good on SFU, but he's so cute on this show--it's not so dark.

Ok, VERY crappy day yesterday. Went home all depressed needing to indulge in some inappropriate behavior to make myself feel so bad physically that I could ignore the emotional bad.

Hmm, overeat? Nope. all the good stuff is breaded and deep fried. Celery doesn't cut it.

Get drunk? Nope. Cocktails are too expensive and you just can't develop a good 'depression drunk' on wine.

Controlled substances? Nope. My body doesn't react consistently to any chemicals so that's just way to scary to contemplate.

I finally realized that the most self-destructive behavior I could engage in is not brushing my teeth before going to bed.

Just not the same impact

 Have we ever LEFT it?

I shot the worst round of golf in my life today, but at least I got laid

Nine more days! Yay! Yes, a day of rest sounds good.

I talk to my dog all the time. She's been acting all Cujo-y the past week, and I had a sit-down talk with her last night. I told her, "Ok furface, I'm saving my money up to get you a hysterectomy, and possibly some doggy Prozac. So just try to chill for a while, ok?"

 Excellent....definitely try the Prozac - I have heard it can work well for some psycho dogs. Considering something for my stinker - who has permanently taken to her bed in teh back bedroom. Scared of everything lately - bizarre.

And Sixth, what the f**k happened to Stanley ?"

 Way to live on the edge, Jess! Next time, try the wine and then - maybe smoke a whole pack of cigarettes? that should do it...

Here's hoping today is better.

Well, could be a slow day here, seems we've got a few members MIA, Bob Goulet is in the hospital, Bev has a nasty cold, Richard's painting houses....

I feel so lonely here today.

Well, since you've got a head cold, it might not be so bad . . . other than the sheer labor involved! Of course, he doen't really wear much, does he? Skimpy shorts and a tank top. :o Perhaps a towel to dab at his damp brow. Might get away with just one load . . . unless he brought his dirty laundry with him to Richard's house. <_<

ENTRIES TO A WASHINGTON POST COMPETITION ASKING FOR A TWO-LINE RHYME

WITH THE MOST ROMANTIC FIRST LINE, BUT THE LEAST ROMANTIC SECOND LINE:

My darling, my lover, my beautiful wife:

Marrying you has screwed up my life.

I see your face when I am dreaming.

That's why I always wake up screaming.

Kind, intelligent, loving and hot;

This describes everything you're not.

Love may be beautiful, love may be bliss, But I only slept with you

'cause I was pissed.

I thought that I could love no other -- That is, until I met your

brother.

Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you. But

the roses are wilting, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl's empty And

so is your h ead.

I want to feel your sweet embrace;

But don't take that paper bag off your face.

I love your smile, your face, and your eyes ......

Damn, I'm good at telling lies!

My love, you take my breath away.

What have you stepped in to smell this way?

My feelings for you no words can tell,

Except for maybe 'Go to hell.'

What inspired this amorous rhyme?

Two parts vodka, one part lime.

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?
    • Scott Adams
I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
