My Happy Tree!!!!!!!

Ridgewalker Contributor

Parties last last night were fabulous! So fabulous I was pretty much useless today.

My best friend is the cheesecake queen!!! Her cheesecakes are requested for all major events by friends and family. Her stuff is actually better than Cheesecake Factory.

The one she made for me was a huge gluten-free chocolate swirl cheesecake, with crumbled peanut butter cups and homemade caramel sauce on top. The crust was made of crushed flourless peanut butter cookies (made with chunky peanut butter.) With completely honesty, I think it's the best dessert I've ever had in my life!!!

As soon as she puts it up on her blog, I'll post the link!

Good morning, Sillies!

Well,The Ripper's in the paper! Unfortunately, the online copy does not have the BIG photograph that accompanies it - - Jack's li'l smiling face. But I'm SO happy that they published this...it will hopefully grab the attention of many parents who have kids with similar unresolved neurological issues.

That cake just sounds too good, Sarah. I dare not make such a thing.....

This is so awesome! It's so well written -- I really think this will resonate with people who see those symptoms in themselves or their children. You must be so proud of your little guy! It kind of gave me chills reading it, realizing how similar Jack and Colin's symptoms were. I'm so happy that they're both living the gluten-free life and I hope that Colin will eventually see the kind of vast improvement that Jack has.

This says it all: "I kind of became a new kid -- me, only better." :D

Emily, The Ripper's essay is awesome! What an incredible kid. At that age, to make that sort of self assessment and decision... it's pretty freaking impressive!

Is your hubby permanently gluten-free, then? I remember he went gluten-free during the phart charting hey day, right?

Love the emotiTree!!!

Mmmmmmmm cheesecake!

Well,The Ripper's in the paper!

My oh my Em, your heart must simply gush seeing his own testimony in print for all to see.

Jack will be absolutely jumpin' up and down to hear all of your reactions...As he was getting his backpack on and heading out the door this morning with the section of the paper to take to school, I said, "We gotta call Grandma as soon as you get home to ask her if she's seen it". His face lit up and he said, "No, first you've gotta get into Sillyville and show all of them!! What will they say? Will they be surprised?" I laughed, and he added as he was heading out the door, "I bet they'll be proud of me".:lol:

Couldn't care less about Grandma's reaction, but you guys, well...........

Yes, I must go post it in the publications section.... :)

Is your hubby permanently gluten-free, then? I remember he went gluten-free during the phart charting hey day, right?

Yep, he's been gluten-free for about four months. Unparalleled pharting was his only noticeable symptom, and that's pretty well gone. He intentionally glutened himself a couple of weeks ago to see how he'd feel, as he still remains somewhat sceptical (strongly positive Enterolab results, negative blood work and biopsy), and had no symptoms. So that makes him even more sceptical....but he's staying on it. :)

I coming! I coming! Agreed- on hubby but I think everyone needs a wife. I would prefer my "wife" to be a gay man who could cook, decorate and give me fashion advice!!!!!!!!!! Now, i do know a gay man who could be my "wife" but he always asks me fashion advice and to plan his parties!

Uh-oh!! Only 12(?) posts from a new Queen????

W/ all the royal confusion stemming of hijacked mullets, I'm recusing myself again. As last clearcut undisputed royalty, it'd seem like back-to-back.

Gotta give someone else a chance to rule!!!!

For some reason the board won't let me quote

Emily, I just love your tree-hugging picture! :D

Bev--I agree completely on the gay man as a wife. I've often said the same thing

Ripper--We are so incredibly proud of you!!! I kinda think of you as "our Ripper" :)

Wow Sarah, that cheesecake sounds drool-worthy. I'm so glad you got out and had some fun--you deserved it :D Big birthday week for you--congrats and hope it's a great day!

Hi Phaugaughm--Good to see you oot and aboot :D (a nod to our Canadian buddies) ;)

Where's Susie? Did I miss somefin?

Probably more I wanted to say, but that's all I can remember right now. Feeling a bit less dizzy today :)

This article does not address migraines at all.  Yes, red wine and sulfites are often mentioned in connection with migraine triggers. With me, any kind of alcoholic beverage in very modest amounts will reliably produce a migraine. Nitrous oxide generators, which are vaso dialators, also will give me migraines reliably. So, I think most of my migraines are tied to fluctuations vascular tension and blood flow to the brain. That's why the sumatriptan works so well. It is a vaso constrictor.

Excessive dietary tyrosine can cause problems.  Everything in moderation.   Sulfites can also trigger migraines. Sulfites are found in fermented, pickled and aged foods, like cheese.  Sulfites cause a high histamine release.  High histamine levels are found in migraine.  Following a low histamine diet like the low histamine Autoimmune Protocol diet, a Paleo diet, helps immensely.    Sulfites and other migraine trigger foods can cause changes in the gut microbiome.  These bad bacteria can increase the incidence of migraines, increasing histamine and inflammation leading to increased gut permeability (leaky gut), SIBO, and higher systemic inflammation.   A Ketogenic diet can reduce the incidence of migraine.  A Paleo diet like the AIP diet, that restricts carbohydrates (like from starchy vegetables) becomes a ketogenic diet.  This diet also changes the microbiome, eliminating the bad bacteria and SIBO that cause an increase in histamine, inflammation and migraine.  Fewer bad bacteria reduces inflammation, lowers migraine frequency, and improves leaky gut. Since I started following the low histamine ketogenic AIP paleo diet, I rarely get migraine.  Yes, I do eat carbs occasionally now, rice or potato, but still no migraines.  Feed your body right, feed your intestinal bacteria right, you'll feel better.  Good intestinal bacteria actually make your mental health better, too.  I had to decide to change my diet drastically in order to feel better all the time, not just to satisfy my taste buds.  I chose to eat so I would feel better all the time.  I do like dark chocolate (a migraine trigger), but now I can indulge occasionally without a migraine after.   Microbiota alterations are related to migraine food triggers and inflammatory markers in chronic migraine patients with medication overuse headache https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11546420/

Then we would need to cut out all meat and fish as they are richer sources of tyrosine than nuts and cheese. Something else about certain tyrosine rich foods must be the actual culprit.
    • Scott Adams
I agree that KAN-101 looks promising, and hope the fast track is approved. From our article below: "KAN-101 shows promise as an immune tolerance therapy aiming to retrain the immune system, potentially allowing safe gluten exposure in the future, but more clinical data is needed to confirm long-term effects."
    • Scott Adams
Thank you so much for having the courage to share this incredibly vivid and personal experience; it's a powerful reminder of how physical ailments can disrupt our fundamental sense of self. What you're describing sounds less like a purely psychological body dysmorphia and more like a distinct neurological event, likely triggered by the immense physical stress and inflammation that uncontrolled celiac disease can inflict on the entire body, including the nervous system. It makes complete sense that the specific sensory input—the pressure points of your elbows on your knees—created a temporary, distorted body map in your brain, and the fact that it ceased once you adopted a gluten-free diet is a crucial detail. Your intuition to document this is absolutely right; it's not "crazy" but rather a significant anecdotal data point that underscores the mysterious and far-reaching ways gluten can affect individuals. Your theory about sensory triggers from the feet for others is also a thoughtful insight, and sharing this story could indeed be validating for others who have had similar, unexplainable sensory disturbances, helping them feel less alone in their journey.
