Good Day me friends!! Amanda- Safe flying in the friendly skies! Susie- Carmel- sigh.....have a lurvely time 9so so so jealous!)

I used to say I had eyes in the back of my head :P

Tee hee...when I taught middle school my kids KNEW I had ears in the back of my head too!

Perhaps Jack thought that a woman's cleavage is called "Jesus" because on one (or several) occasions he's been out with his dad and upon passing a buxom woman with lots of boob showing, DH has stared and muttered, "jeeeeee-sussss.....".......

That was my FIRST thought     How about "Holy Jesus, looks at those BOODHAS?" for the Buddhists among us.

Souczie---By all means, keep it!! :D You are fabulous, and they may as well know that up front.

Plus, it'll get their attention ;)

I agree- how about Phanphu*&ckingtastic Job Seeker? :P

Yeah, but we're your wackls :D

Yes- we ALL are in this lunacy together

Dude... I just had a little bit of a rant in the "My kids are going to kill each other" thread. A couple people seemed like they were blaming bad behavior on TV. I couldn't stand for that. I hate it when people blame everything on TV, I think it's bull.

Nicely done. Those two people actually managed to imply that if that mother were more religious, she wouldn't be allowing her kids to watch tv. Gads. Church is not the answer to good kids; being a parent is.

I try to avoid answering when threads tick me off -I don't think I could be very objective.

The only thing TV can be blamed for is making kids fat ... of course, even that goes back to the parents letting them sit there all day. :)

Exactly! That was just a bit too self-righteous for me. Maybe it wasn't deliberate, but I couldn't sit by for that. Thanks for backing me up over there. :D

Absolutely! It all goes back to the parenting. Cutting TV out completely makes the child miss out on all the wonderful stories and fun ways of learning that TV and video can offer. And it's the lazy way out. It's a lot less work to just say, "No TV in this house," than to actually monitor, participate, and control what your child watches.

I've been pondering getting the Fairy Tale Theatre DVD set for my boys. It's not cheap, but that was a wonderful show. I have great memories of watching that show when I was a kid.

Speaking of which, Sarah, I meant to say before that I hope you're doing OK- withdrawal S-U-C-K-S!!!!! Did any of those links I give you help?

They say a good way to get stuff out of your system is orange juice (if you can tolerate it). They recommend it when you're quitting smoking to get the nicotine out of your system. If you can't tolerate oj, they say sip lemon juice through a straw. HUGSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Yes, well done Sarah! I hope I can learn to be as patient and to speak (type) as kindly as you did in that thread. That kind of self righteous BS those posters were spewing makes me feel quite ill. I don't think I would be able to type a response without calling them stupid-heads! The whole "I'm a better mommy than you are because I don't let my kids watch tv or doing anything else!" attitude makes me sick. I realize that I have no real knowledge or experience with respect to raising children but in University the kids whose parents sheltered them from everything were the ones most likely to skip all their classes because they finally had some freedom and more seriously were smoking lots of dope and being carted to the hospital with alcohol poisoning. If you're raised to think everything (including TV) is bad and then you go away to school and realize that your parents happened to be wrong and that gee television isn't the devil, then you might start wondering if they were really right about drugs and excess alcohol and unprotected sex being bad as well. Too many rules make the important ones fade into the background (in my humble, inexperienced opinion).

Yikes  Sorry for that unexpected rant. I hope I didn't offend anyone. I'm a little stressed I guess! Tomorrow is the party for the lady I'm giving the royal doulton to. I've been working on a note I want to include with the present in case I can't get out what I want to say to her. But so far everything sounds corny or feels too raw and revealing to put or just doesn't sound right! :( It shouldn't be so difficult to put what you feel into words!

Wow....gotta get over there and READ some of that...... <_<

Sarah, heading onto a thread and attempting some sage, worthwhile advice while suffering the emotional roller-coaster of Effexor withdrawal is MUCH more respectable than leaping into a desperate conversation, sympathetic, supportive guns blazing when hot-tubbed and champagned quite smartly.....:lol:

But it so often is, you're right, Alex. I know that you will find those words. If they come hard-fought, they will be perfect...... :)

Alex, for someone who hasn't experienced parenthood yet, you make a whole lotta sense!

And remember, it's not always what the parents say.....it's how they conduct themselves and handle life's ups and downs on a daily basis. Kids are little sponges--they take everything in and can spot a hypocrite a mile away. The people they become has a lot to do with what they see.

My kids watched TV--not constantly, and I watched along with them. Didn't do them a bit of harm.

We didn't have lots of rules--didn't need them. Mark and I decided early on that we would "pick our battles". I also didn't micro-manage every moment.....my kids played outside with neighborhood friends as well as doing homework and playing organized sports. I always knew where they were and who they were with--

The best thing I ever did was to stop listening to all this holier-than-thou crapola and go with my gut when it came to my kids.

Yep, sums me up with my approach.....and oh-ma-gahhhh.....yes!! .;pick your battles!!!!.........dear GAWD ...I am clearly a bohemian parent

But seriously - Sarah did well in what she said (eloquently ;) )

There are alot of threads I wouldn't dream of answering...'cos I can nae contain my disgust at the hypocrisy

I always thought it was a cultural difference.....religion is BIG business in the states...and it seems to creep into this board allthe time.

Religion never seems to come into it on the UK coeliac board  ...but I don't think we Brits are (as a nation) as strongly religous as US folks.

I don't go to church - my kids are not christened ..AND they watch TV....but it doesn't mean we don't have values/morals or that they are not polite and kind.

GADS - i would never judge a person for having a strong faith - so why is it ok the other way round???

Off me soapbox now - oh I missed many pages --where's Ptaghmn??? ...and I missed Souczles ...off to cooler climes :D

Carry on peeps :D

Well, Nik, they are still young. Plenty of time left for them to turn and expose you as a slacker mom ;)

I watched tons of tv, and only went to church when forced to, and I've managed to subvert my destructive, argumentative tendencies, but then, my mom and dad taught me what was proper, not the television.

I love how we come to this totally public thread and gossip about posters in the other threads as if there's no possibility of them ever 'hearing' what's been said about them :P

I agree, it so often overlooked! I live in the UK and I have often wondered why doctors are so reluctant to at least exclude it - my thoughts are perhaps the particular tests are expensive for the NHS, so therefore saved for people with 'obvious' symptoms.  I was diagnosed in 2013 and was told immediately that my parents, sibling and children should be checked.  My parents' GP to this day has not put forward my father for testing, and my mother was never tested in her lifetime, despite the fact that they both have some interesting symptoms/family history that reflect they might have coeliac disease (Dad - extreme bloating, and his Mum clearly had autoimmune issues, albeit undiagnosed as such; Mum - osteoporosis, anxiety).  I am now my father' legal guardian and suspecting my parents may have forgotten to ask their GP for a test (which is entirely possible!) I put it to his last GP that he ought to be tested.  He looked at Dad's blood results and purely because he was not anemic said he wasn't a coeliac.  Hopefully as the awareness of Coeliac Disease spreads among the general public, people will be able to advocate for themselves.  It is hard because in the UK the NHS is very stretched, but the fallout from not being diagnosed in a timely fashion will only cost the NHS more money. Interestingly, a complete aside, I met someone recently whose son was diagnosed (I think she said he was 8).  At a recent birthday party with 8 guests, 4 boys out of the 8 had received diagnosis of Coeliac Disease, which is an astounding statistic  As far as I know, though, they had all had obvious gastric symptoms leading to their NHS diagnosis.  In my own case I had  acute onset anxiety, hypnopompic hallucinations (vivid hallucinations upon waking),  odd liver function, anxiety, headaches, ulcers and low iron but it wasn't until the gastric symptoms hit me that a GP thought to do coeliac testing, and my numbers were through the roof.  As @trents says, by the grace of God I was diagnosed, and the diet has pretty much dealt with most of those symptoms.  I have much to be grateful for. Cristiana

@xxnonamexx, There's labeling on those Trubar gluten free high fiber protein bars that say: "Manufactured in a facility that also processes peanuts, milk, soy, fish, WHEAT, sesame, and other tree nuts." You may want to avoid products made in shared facilities.   If you are trying to add more fiber to your diet to ease constipation, considering eating more leafy green vegetables and cruciferous vegetables.  Not only are these high in fiber, they also are good sources of magnesium.  Many newly diagnosed are low in magnesium and B vitamins and suffer with constipation.  Thiamine Vitamin B1 and magnesium work together.  Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine has been shown to improve intestinal health.  Thiamine and magnesium are important to gastrointestinal health and function.

Welcome to celiac.com @sha1091a! Your experience is a very common one. Celiac disease is one the most underdiagnosed and misdiagnosed medical conditions out there. The reasons are numerous. One key one is that its symptoms mimic so many other diseases. Another is ignorance on the part of the medical community with regard to the range of symptoms that celiac disease can produce. Clinicians often are only looking for classic GI symptoms and are unaware of the many other subsystems in the body that can be damaged before classic GI symptoms manifest, if ever they do. Many celiacs are of the "silent" variety and have few if any GI symptoms while all along, damage is being done to their bodies. In my case, the original symptoms were elevated liver enzymes which I endured for 13 years before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. By the grace of God my liver was not destroyed. It is common for the onset of the disease to happen 10 years before you ever get a diagnosis. Thankfully, that is slowly changing as there has developed more awareness on the part of both the medical community and the public in the past 20 years or so. Blessings!

@EndlessSummer, You said you had an allergy to trees.  People with Birch Allergy can react to green beans (in the legume family) and other vegetables, as well as some fruits.  Look into Oral Allergy Syndrome which can occur at a higher rate in Celiac Disease.   Switching to a low histamine diet for a while can give your body time to rid itself of the extra histamine the body makes with Celiac disease and histamine consumed in the diet.   Vitamin C and the eight B vitamins are needed to help the body clear histamine.   Have you been checked for nutritional deficiencies?
