When my mom was "forced" to tell me what a period was (Are You There God? It's me Margaret ) she figure she'd throw in sex. I took one look at her (I think I was ten) and screamed "Ahhhhh...you do that would dad?" Ran and hid in my room :ph34r:

Raving hand-waving hair-pulling screaming Jess here.

Those ignorant annoying self righteous 'you shouldn't do this because I think it's wrong' anti-medicine anti-pharmaceutical blathering idiots who dose themselves with hundreds of dollars worth of untested unproven ground up plants because some minimally educated, yet also anti-pharmaceutical, leech has convinced them that they should should not be allowed to post anything health related.

Very well said! I was attempting to come out of hiding when I happened upon (okay . . . willing looked against my better judgment) the thread which I believe caused your page stretching scream and I think I am outta here again. What's the point of contending with people who believe they are so smart that they somehow understand how a DEAD virus could make them sick. Somebody get these people a scholarship to MIT. <_< I'm sure the experts in virology could use some help in coming up with an HIV vaccine. Oh that's right . . . vaccines are much more dangerous than any of the illnesses they protect against . . . how could I forget.

Doncha think that maybe you are a living tribute to how great a mom she was?

Gulp :( . I don't think I'll ever be a good enough living tribute to my mom. Exhibit A being what I just posted above. Anger, sarcasm, lack of compassion -- not exactly the mark of a well raised kid. My mom embodied patience, understanding, and compassion; I don't know why I'm so lacking in those virtues. Maybe I just need to grow up a little more . . . I dunno . . .

Sorry for all this very unfunny, unSillyness. Please feel free to ignore this yucky, party pooper post. I will try to stay away til I'm more centred and less pissed with all of the BS that gets posted by occasion around the board. Ugh, I wish I could get a break from myself while I'm in such a foul mood.

 just wondering how a thread on places in Maine could go awry ?? what in hell  what did it say?

halloooo everybody

I think I went off my Wellbutrin too quickly. Um, well, actually it was cold turkey. Yeah. Hence, I feel like utter crap - yesterday and today - rather physically ill. I *did* take half a tablet on Friday, but this is entirely the incorrect dosage and method of weaning. took half a pill today also. feel wretched.

Alex........give yourself some slack, honey. You're human, it's okay to get irritated. :) um, what's this about a dead virus?

and hello to all other silly friends. got nowt here, heading to bed....and can't remember a single thing I wanted to address. Oh, probably because I read it all houuuuuuurs ago.

Was it Sarah that got so sick? can't remember.....Janet has one shaved leg? well, one is better than none...and, we have a new silly! :) Oh, and I'm selling pet food to Em's brother whilst working at Peter's store......perfect!

I want to tell all sillies to NEVER venture to other threads but, I do find it too entertaining seeing the comments here about the cold, cruel world out there.....along w/ screen-stretching screams. Links to said threads are always welcome as well.

Hi johnsmom- nice to "meet" you. I lost my mom five years ago- still want her everyday!!!!!!!

wAS a tribut to his mom and he started to tear up and he said... " ..oh ....no.... you'd thiink i'd be ..... kinda healed ...but you never heal that one it's been like 17 years since she passed... "

so if it takes a big guy like james earle jones ( voice of darth vador) more than 17 years to be able to talk openly about the loss of his mum... i got lots more time.......

Are-You-There-Vodka-Chelsea

looks like a good read and today is my trip to borders day so i just might start reading that next...

i'll tell ya if you are stuck for what to read next....

both 3weeks with my brother....and water for elephants ....were EXEC-LENT--EE reads....the kind you savor like a good meal,,..... i just may read them agan in 5 years.. that good. and i usually never want to re-read anything....

i always liked this quote by lilly tomlin ...she was doing edith -ann on sat night live and she said " when i think god is watchng i sing and dance and look up... doing a little commercial for myself"

... thats o.k. my mums been gone 4 years july 14th and on the anniversary of her passing we still muse about doing something more ......

I lost my mom five years ago- still want her everyday!!!!!!!

Last Fri was the 8th anniversary of my mom's death.............can't help but wonder if she had celiac. Almost lost her many years earlier when I was a kid.......had a busted appendix for 9 days before going to the hospital. I remember she said she just thought it was something she ate. Makes sense that if food was already making her sick, another tummy ache wouldn't have caused her alarm. And she was the kind of person to never let on if she didn't feel good. And that's why colon cancer took her so quickly.

So I thought, even though it's a simple sign, it would be fitting if the sign of the day were......

MOM

Hold hand with all fingers spread, like the number 5, and tap your thumb on your chin

........and since i missed yesterday........here's one to go along with it.........

I love you

With palm facing forward, hold up your thumb, index finger, and pinkie........the other 2 fingers are down. This is a combination of the letters I, L and Y

Bev is home!!!!! How could you be gone so long and not call (post)? You're off having a wonderful time, not giving a second thought to your family here in Sillyville <_< I see how it is!

Jess soon to be on the *Janet vacation*!!! ;)

Why is it I always feel I have to read Jo's posts fast? She's like a runaway freight train!!!!! I bet when she talks, she barely takes time to take a breath

Went to bed early last night and missed the scandalous Bev vacation thread........who's gonna spill the beans?.............inquiring minds want to know :P

Susie.........I worry about you going off your meds without a doctors care :( That's serious business you shouldn't be trying to do on your own.

Very stormy this morning.......Zeus refuses to go out.........I swear that dog has a bladder the size of a grapefruit!!!

Morning, Sillies!

Another running-about, hither and yon day up here. Taking Jack for his first two-hour tennis lesson this am, and Sophie to her hockey camp (yep, serious Canuck kids do it all year - - quite an odd thing, standing in an arena, shivering and pulling a jacket over myself, while it is 90 sweltering degrees just outside the doors)......:huh:

Yes, I second all this! Very confuzzling, last night's back-and-forths about a mysterious newbie thread, Bev's Maine musings gone awry, the dangers of dead viruses..... . . .

Went frantically trying to find all of these entertainting nuggets, to no avail. I DO think that I need to get out more - - perhaps I've simply forgotten how to find other threads!

Alex! You are such a together, mature, phunee, great woman - - it shines through in everything you post. Nobody is more patient, understanding and compassionate than you are as a sister; of this we are all certain... .. and it sounds like you have a terrific marriage, which commands all of these qualities!

You're too hard on thyself! Great stuff, you got. ;):)

i'll tell ya if you are stuck for what to read next....

Well, Judy Blume has been recently brought up, and I'd bet that virtually ALL of us women have had part of our adolescent lives touched by her. I'm sure I read everything she put out, including her two adult novels, Wifey and Summer Sisters. As a kid, my favorites were Deenie and Forever. Such heroines for a girl to be exposed to! (Ha! Haven't had my second cup of tea and it's still too early, obviously....cannot get my mind around the reconfiguring of that sentence to move the preposition into its proper middle position...).. . . ..<_<

Shortly after we moved into our previous home, lightening hit the side of the house and blew out our modem :o

I smelled smoke, so I called 911 and we had to evacuate the house until the firemen went in and looked around. I remember grabbing my purse and Allo--Matt and I put him in the car and we stood in the rian waiting for them to let us back in.

Wow--thats scary.

A few weeks ago, I was laying on the couch and we have the upstairs apartment so ours has enclosed balcony. Well it was about 10 at night and John was standing by our breakfast bar. I smelt smoke. So I sat up and asked him if he turned the stove on and was cooking. He said no but I got up to look anyway. I didn't smell anything. I walked back over and where I was laying my lap top was there and once again I smelt the smoke and it was like an electrical burning type smell...so I quick unplugged the computer and was worried it was the plug...but that plug is on one of those reset things so if it gets hot it turns off....so then I went outside. the smell was strong there but I couldn't see any smoke. I started yelling for Jen and she came out....we couldn't find anything....and eventually the smell went away. But I was paniced for quite some time...fire scares me!

jerseyangel Proficient
But I was paniced for quite some time...fire scares me!

Me too.

Out here where we live now, it's legal to burn leaves and twigs and stuff in your yard. Having never lived where this was ok, it's strange to sometimes wake up to the smell of a fire when a neighbor up the street (retired) is burning--which he seem do do quite often....methinks he burns his junk mail

It's enough in the distance that I don't immediately think there's anything wrong here, but it's definately something I have to get used to.

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

I know the burning of leaves and such is allowed up by my mom's area. Unless they have a burn ban for a drought. I am not sure if it is allowed in my area since where we are here, they put the leave piles on the sides of the streets and the town picks it up and takes it away. It is good and bad. The bad is cars purposely drive through and scatter the leaves everywhere....

So my sister Tammy is in Italy and doing well, Silvia is enjoying her relatives, this is the first time meeting the grandparents and they love her.

My other sister Carrie, went on her first date last night since the break-up of her 4 yr relationship. That ended in June. She really enjoyed herself and said the guy was a real gentleman....I am happy for her.

jerseyangel Proficient

Amanda--It's nice to hear that your sisters are doing well and are happy! :)

Hey, Patti and Amanda! Just you two..... . .. a quiet morn here. Whassup wif everyone else? I was just thinking that Jo is what......6 hours behind us? So she is still sleeping. I wonder if her brain turns off while she sleeps, or if it keeps chugging away - - gotta be on yer toes to keep up with her phunnee thoughts!

Fires.....never had one here, or in the neighboUrhood, thank gawd, but Will is an insurance adjuster and examines many houses in the aftermath of a big fire. :( A lot of it is arson, but the second most common cause is leaving pots on the stove (DUH!!! ), followed by careless smoking and candles being forgotten. Often not a happy line of work, I must say.....

And VERY unsilly, to boot!! On to o9ther things.....

Just posted a thread on a FASCINATING interview with the incredible Dr. Simoncini in Italy, and the work he's done with cancer and candida. Worth watching!

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @Atl222! Yes, your increased lymphocytes could be in response to oats or it could possibly be cross contamination from gluten that is getting into your diet from some unexpected source but not enough to damage the villi. And I'm certain that increased lymphocytes can be caused by other things besides celiac disease or gluten/oats exposure. See attachment. But you might try eliminating oats to start with and possibly dairy for a few months and then seek another endoscopy/biopsy to see if there was a reduction in lymphocyte counts.

This is a solid, well-reasoned approach. You’re right that “koji” by itself doesn’t indicate gluten status, and the risk really does come down to which grain is used to culture it. The fact that you directly contacted Eden Foods and received a clear statement that their koji is made from rice only, with no wheat or barley, is meaningful due diligence—especially since Eden has a long-standing reputation for transparency. While the lack of gluten labeling can understandably give pause, manufacturer confirmation like this is often what people rely on for traditionally fermented products. As always, trusting your body after trying it is reasonable, but based on the information you gathered, your conclusion makes sense.
    • Scott Adams
Seven months can still be early in celiac healing, especially if you were mostly asymptomatic to begin with—symptoms like low iron, vitamin D deficiency, nail changes, and hair issues often take much longer to improve because the gut needs time to recover before absorption normalizes. A tTG-IgA of 69 is not “low” in terms of immune activity, and it can take 12–24 months (sometimes longer) for antibodies and the intestinal lining to fully heal, particularly in teens and young adults. Eating gluten again to “test” things isn’t recommended and won’t give you clear answers—it’s far more likely to cause harm than clarity. Weight not changing is also very common in celiac and doesn’t rule anything out. Please know that your frustration and sadness matter; this adjustment is hard, and feeling stuck can really affect mental health. You deserve support, and if you can, reaching out to a GI dietitian or mental health professional familiar with chronic illness could really help you through this phase. This study indicates that a majority of celiacs don't recover until 5 years after diagnosis and starting a gluten-free diet: Mucosal recovery and mortality in adults with celiac disease after treatment with a gluten-free diet However, it's also possible that what the study really shows is the difficulty in maintaining a 100% gluten-free diet. I suspect that if you looked closely at the diets of those who did not recover within 2 years might be that their diets were not 100% gluten-free. Perhaps they ate out more often, or didn't understand all of the hidden ingredients where gluten can hide. Either way, it shows how difficult recovery from celiac disease can be for most people. According to this study: This article explores other causes of flattened villi:

Gluten testing is normally reported in ppm (parts per million), which is equivalent to mg/kg, not micrograms by itself. A result of <0.025 mcg only becomes meaningful if you know the sample size tested (for example, mcg per gram or per kg). If that value represents <0.025 mcg per gram, that would equal <25 ppm, which is above the gluten-free threshold; if it’s <0.025 mcg per kilogram, it would be extremely low and well within GF limits. Without the denominator, the result is incomplete. It’s reasonable to follow up with the company and ask them to confirm the result in ppm using a validated method (like ELISA R5)—that’s the standard used to assess gluten safety.
    • Scott Adams
Medication sensitivity is very real for many people with celiac and other autoimmune conditions, and it’s frustrating when that’s brushed off. Even when a medication is technically gluten-free, fillers, dose changes, or how your nervous system reacts—especially with things like gabapentin—can cause paradoxical effects like feeling wired but exhausted. The fact that it helped bloating suggests it may be affecting gut–nerve signaling, which makes sense in the context of SIBO, but that doesn’t mean the side effects should be ignored. You’re carrying a heavy load right now with ongoing skin, eye, and neurological uncertainty, and living in that kind of limbo is exhausting on its own. It’s understandable to feel overwhelmed and discouraged when systems and providers don’t meet you where you are—your experience is valid, and continuing to advocate for yourself, even when it’s hard, really does matter. You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/
