Have you tried the trains? I'm not that talented but they're pretty cool!!

I'm headed to Bellingham on a road trip with my mama tonight. I'll wave to ya from across the bay. My sister lived on Orcas for a few years. She was a councelor for Camp Orkila. I never got a chance to visit her, but I hear it's sooooo beautiful!! (not sure which island you're on ;) )

Can't speak for the rest of the Ruskins ( none of us can) and can't speak for meself. As none of us can. The coasts are beautifyl, but the mid earth is lacking in geografical intuition. Butt, peops living in the US, do you know that the east end will soon be flooded and the west end will slide into the sea? The only place that will be saved will be Canton, Ohio, because it has the Phootball Hall of Fame, And God loves foozeball. My evil twin, the capitolust, lives there! And, I live in the Gulag.

Both ugly. Both saved.

I hope to write the great Rushin novel

Judee . . . YaY!!!

Peeps, starting to feel a little under the weather. Flu has been hitting hard here. Some school closures due to high absentee rates. I'm hoping it's just my hypochondria flaring up but I shall go to bed early tonight!!!

Been very very busy and very very unsilly but I've been reading along. :D

Spent yesterday evening demo'ing somebody's basement. A friend of a friend. Serious physical labor. Felt pretty good.

This morning slept later than usual, raced off for a massage (noticing that Lyle looked a little off), came back, decided Lyle was too off to 'wait and see' Called the vet, they said bring 'em in (what does it mean that not only did I not get an 'emergency surcharge', I didn't even get charged for the office visit. D'ya think I've paid my way into gold card service?) Anyway, his jaw is infected. Got antibiotics. The point of this story being

I'm just now having coffee

Criminy

An unbusy Saturday. DD went out o'her way to bring me new patches so I could continue being a non-smoker. That surely is love! And, she's 3/4 Irish witch explains a lot of kindness. Glutened meself today being just plain STUPID. Because I'm all Irish. We just like what we like. My evil Rushin twin is way too smart to ever do that.

Jagnut - I hope you feel better.

Jessness - I hope Lyle is OK.

Petravonasilli, the 3 major food groups, according to my Way stupid iRish Antler-ego in an x-mail she sent me today, are as fallows:

1. Potatoes

2. Chocolat

3. Baileys

Also, feeling about the same as last night which means it's just a cold . . . I'm OK with that because there's a lot of flu around here and I'd just as soon not go there.

How do you tell when it's ready to be picked. Mine is going crazy but I haven't picked any yet. Some of the older ones have lost their pale stripes and are now a solid color whereas the smaller/newer ones still have light green stripes. The stem is still green...This is my 1st garden :o I've learned SOOOO much this year-especially not to grow watermelons where people can easily steal them!!!! <_<

A solid tan color indicates they are ready. So does die-back of the vines, or the vines near the squash turning brown. Cure them by drying (warm, dry place :P ) for 10-14 days. When the skin is too hard to easily puncture with a fangernail, they are ready to store. I cooked some ahead to freeze for easy fixin'...but they are not hard to fix anyway. Been looking up recipes for soups, breads, any way I can find to use them up! Still sucks big ones about the watermelons. Rotten fieves!

Jgest....hope Lyle crocodile feels better soon! How nice ..he's got you to snuggle and commiserate with. On a heated mattress pad, no less!

GJagnet....hope your cold only has a short visit. So glad it's not the flew! Seems it's already hittin' pretty hard in lots of places. Miserable stuff!

Hey ho to ever'body else!

Well I decided to take an impromptu trip to Tammys today. Now that she is at her new house she only is 1 hr away in Hazleton. All the leaves are changing up there, very scenic trip up. Loved spending the day with my neices. We put together a Little Tikes jungle gym thing in her playroom for the winter.

Now its off to the grocery store so I can make dinner. I am starving!

In the car on the way back to Portland. Was supposed to be such a fun weekend, right before we got to my brothers house, he got a call that his mil had passed away. 2 weeks after her cancer diagnosis. Was very sudden :( My mom and I tried to make the best of the time we were together. Had us some martini's and wine and came clean about our first experiences with weed-I musta been drunk!!

Anyways, we're taking him to Tacoma on our way back to inlaws house. Hopefully the rest of the day will be a happy one!

Hope y'all had a great weekend!

I agree, it so often overlooked! I live in the UK and I have often wondered why doctors are so reluctant to at least exclude it - my thoughts are perhaps the particular tests are expensive for the NHS, so therefore saved for people with 'obvious' symptoms.  I was diagnosed in 2013 and was told immediately that my parents, sibling and children should be checked.  My parents' GP to this day has not put forward my father for testing, and my mother was never tested in her lifetime, despite the fact that they both have some interesting symptoms/family history that reflect they might have coeliac disease (Dad - extreme bloating, and his Mum clearly had autoimmune issues, albeit undiagnosed as such; Mum - osteoporosis, anxiety).  I am now my father' legal guardian and suspecting my parents may have forgotten to ask their GP for a test (which is entirely possible!) I put it to his last GP that he ought to be tested.  He looked at Dad's blood results and purely because he was not anemic said he wasn't a coeliac.  Hopefully as the awareness of Coeliac Disease spreads among the general public, people will be able to advocate for themselves.  It is hard because in the UK the NHS is very stretched, but the fallout from not being diagnosed in a timely fashion will only cost the NHS more money. Interestingly, a complete aside, I met someone recently whose son was diagnosed (I think she said he was 8).  At a recent birthday party with 8 guests, 4 boys out of the 8 had received diagnosis of Coeliac Disease, which is an astounding statistic  As far as I know, though, they had all had obvious gastric symptoms leading to their NHS diagnosis.  In my own case I had  acute onset anxiety, hypnopompic hallucinations (vivid hallucinations upon waking),  odd liver function, anxiety, headaches, ulcers and low iron but it wasn't until the gastric symptoms hit me that a GP thought to do coeliac testing, and my numbers were through the roof.  As @trents says, by the grace of God I was diagnosed, and the diet has pretty much dealt with most of those symptoms.  I have much to be grateful for. Cristiana

@xxnonamexx, There's labeling on those Trubar gluten free high fiber protein bars that say: "Manufactured in a facility that also processes peanuts, milk, soy, fish, WHEAT, sesame, and other tree nuts." You may want to avoid products made in shared facilities.   If you are trying to add more fiber to your diet to ease constipation, considering eating more leafy green vegetables and cruciferous vegetables.  Not only are these high in fiber, they also are good sources of magnesium.  Many newly diagnosed are low in magnesium and B vitamins and suffer with constipation.  Thiamine Vitamin B1 and magnesium work together.  Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine has been shown to improve intestinal health.  Thiamine and magnesium are important to gastrointestinal health and function.

Welcome to celiac.com @sha1091a! Your experience is a very common one. Celiac disease is one the most underdiagnosed and misdiagnosed medical conditions out there. The reasons are numerous. One key one is that its symptoms mimic so many other diseases. Another is ignorance on the part of the medical community with regard to the range of symptoms that celiac disease can produce. Clinicians often are only looking for classic GI symptoms and are unaware of the many other subsystems in the body that can be damaged before classic GI symptoms manifest, if ever they do. Many celiacs are of the "silent" variety and have few if any GI symptoms while all along, damage is being done to their bodies. In my case, the original symptoms were elevated liver enzymes which I endured for 13 years before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. By the grace of God my liver was not destroyed. It is common for the onset of the disease to happen 10 years before you ever get a diagnosis. Thankfully, that is slowly changing as there has developed more awareness on the part of both the medical community and the public in the past 20 years or so. Blessings!

@EndlessSummer, You said you had an allergy to trees.  People with Birch Allergy can react to green beans (in the legume family) and other vegetables, as well as some fruits.  Look into Oral Allergy Syndrome which can occur at a higher rate in Celiac Disease.   Switching to a low histamine diet for a while can give your body time to rid itself of the extra histamine the body makes with Celiac disease and histamine consumed in the diet.   Vitamin C and the eight B vitamins are needed to help the body clear histamine.   Have you been checked for nutritional deficiencies?
