Okay, Royal Psillies, I need to confer with you all on sumfin. We are heading to Toronto next month for three nights. It will be our March break vacation, something on the cheap side - - no big trips this year. . . . . ..the household economy won't allow it.

SOoOoooOo, we've decided to stay in a hotel, not with my brother.. . .this will be the big splurge. Hotel prices in downtown Toronto are hefty, so I checked on hotwire. There is a very tempting deal, there. The top listing:

Open Original Shared Link

The catch is that you are only given the area of the city where the hotel is, the star rating and the amenities.......not the name, and not the sleeping/bed details.

I dunno what to doooooooooo. . . . . . . ...it's a four-star with a gym, pool, free internet access in an ideal location, for 95 bucks . . . ...absolute steal. But there are four of us going, and my kids are now great big creatures - - I cannot sleep in a double bed with anybody now. Could be a little room with one double... . . . ...

Or a huge suite with two queens and a pullout. . . . ..B)

Annnnnnnnd once you buy it, it is non-refundable.

Gaaaaahhhhhh.. . .. ..

What would youse guys do?

Tis a head scratcher Em. The link didn't work--I just got the general page of the site.

Is there some identifying info that you could call the hotel and ask about? I don't think you'd have anything to lose by calling them directly and seeing if they can shed some light. (even though you sill have to book through the site)

From what you said it seems like a very nice place--maybe they don't offer any "single" rooms? It does make me suspicious that they don't give you all this info up front so you can see exactly what you are getting.

Personally, I've used Hotwire and Priceline with no problems. I know with Priceline you're only guaranteed 1 queen bed, so I've had to call to request 2 queens or rollaways if the kiddo's are wif me. But it's not a given. I've gambled on more than 1 occasion and it's worked out fine, but it is a gamble.

But I found this for Hotwire under their Travel Rules section:

#4. Room type will be determined by the hotel based on the number of guests provided at time of booking. All reservations are booked for stays in non-smoking rooms (subject to availability).

This isn't the case with Priceline, so it sounds like if you put in 4 people for the reservation, you should be able to accommodate 4 people in the room. Is it more $$ if you put in 4 adults instead of 2 adults/2 kids??

Nope, it's the same amount if it's two adults, two kids or four adults.. . . . ...guess I would specify four adults . .. . ..more chances of getting more bed space... .. .....hmmm.....

I vote for two queens and a pullout. You only live once (unless you're a cat).

Love,

Rah-shyelle, after you booked a hotel deal through hotwire and it revealed to you the hotel name, did it then also give you the room details? I'm worried that if I book this deal I won't know what I've bought until we get there.... . . . ..although I suppose it wouldn't matter as there is no cancellation -- we'd be staying regardless....

Canna decide.

I don't think the cost is different based on the beds. Book the room, then call and confirm your two Kings.

Also double check that the price quoted is per room, not per guest.

Happy (Day After Your) Birthday Rush-L!!! Sorry I'm late.

Dang, I'm tired. I want to take a nap but kiddos are due home any minute . . . and they're noisy.

Visiting my first IKEA this weekend, anybody got any recommendations?

Bring a snack, although I think the meatballs are gluten-free.

Actually I think they aren't. Can't find verification. But the gummy fish should be ok.

When we needed furniture for the kids rooms, we thought about renting a Uhaul and going to the nearest IKea which I think is the one near Chicago at that time.

I've only rented cars thru hotwire, but intend to use them next time for hotel. I don't think they give you specific details. I waited a day, then called the hotel to confirm.

My most favorite thing EVAHHHHHH is the rectangular shaped collinder that has expanding arms so it reaches across the sink and hangs, so it doesn't sit in your sink where a liquid back-up may occur

Oh, the cake? Dunno if the foodstuff section has a bakery.. . . . ...if you are able to get a birthday cake there, it undoubtedly comes in separate sections with packaged icing that you must assemble yourself....

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SamAlvi! Were there any other antibody tests ordered? Particularly, was there a "total IGA" test ordered to check for IGA deficiency. When people are IGA deficient, celiac panel IGA test scores, such as the TTG-IGA, are likely not valid. If a total IGA test was not ordered, I would request such to be done. Note: "Total IGA" goes by other names as well. I will include a primer on celiac disease antibody testing which does a good job in covering the nomenclature variations connected with the various tests. Elevated IGG scores can certainly indicate celiac disease but they are more likely than elevated IGA tests to be caused by something else.

Thank you— yes, valid and essential— The issue either doctors is that every one I have tried to talk to about this has essentially rolled their eyes and dismissed me as a hypochondriac, which gets discouraging. I believe a diagnosis would help me to be taken seriously by doctors as well as being validating, but can carry on without it.    There are many, probably most people in my area of my age and gender, who avoid gluten, but many just avoid it casually— eating the occasional plate of wheat pasta or a delicious-looking dessert, or baking cookies with wheat flour for gatherings.  That is not an option for me. I don’t eat other people’s cooking or go to restaurants that do not have strict cross- contamination procedures. It can be boring and lonely, and people do look at me as if I am being a bit dramatic but weeks of symptoms after a single small exposure has taught me to respect my experience.    Thank you very much for your response— sometimes I just need to hear that I am not crazy—

You’re not crazy—some people have severe neurological and physical reactions to gluten, not just digestive issues. While testing can be tricky without eating gluten, documenting symptoms and seeing a specialist familiar with atypical celiac or gluten-related disorders can help. Your reactions are real, and it’s valid to be cautious.

You might consider asking for a referral to a RD (Registered Dietician) to help with food choices and planning a diet. Even apart from any gluten issues, you will likely find there are some foods you need to avoid because of the shorter bowel but you may also find that your system may make adjustments over time and that symptoms may improve.
