Contemplating a makeover. Hair getting very long and new hairs are coming in grey (*GASP*) but curly which I like. Currently taking suggestions. Feeling frumpy in me forties- want new clothes, shoes and hairdo. Advice por favor?

Garage sale season is almost upon us....a great way to try something different without breaking the bank. When my DD was a teenager, I started asking her opinion about the way I dressed. Out went the jumpers, vests, pleated pants........I get middle school kids complementing me on my clothes, now! :D You need to rent yerselph a teenager :P I'd love to take you shopping!

I keep thinking I want to change my hairstyle, but can never decide what I want. I like having a curly perm cuz it's pretty much wash 'n wear, but it's not possible to have the size curls I want unless I curl it every day <_< I have thought about getting highlights to conceal the intruding grEy hairs, but maybe not the typical blonde streaks.....maybe a copper. B)

Glad the dancing is cheering you :D :D Can you tango? I've always wanted to learn- so sexy and dramatic!

Dancing with the Stars? Methinks our Leesargh is a candidate!

Nope......can't Tango. Probably would be hard to pull off without the sexy high heels, cux I don't think I could dance in heels.

I've thought about competing, but it's too danged expensive.....entrance fees, traveling, hotel..... :(

Gah! Me, too! Bevel, let's enter each other in What Not to Wear. Man, could Stacey and Clinton ever have a field day with ME. I believe that it would have to be a two-parter.... .. . . . ..<_<

Gluten....gluten.. . . . . ......

I think it looks like this:

FK678.webp

Can I be one of the people that throw your clothes out? or is that a different show?

Also, THAT IS EXACTLLY WHAT A GLUTEN LOOKS LIKE!

Hidie-Ho thar nabors . . . it's been a hell-a-shuss couple-a-days. Just busy, busy, busy. Too tired to even tell you . . . plus it's not exciting or nuttin', just busy.

Curly Lisa - so good to see you postin' . . . you, too, Bevel.

Smothering . . . . . . glad surgery went well.

Fluent Jestese . . .

Did they actually test her for gastroparesis? Has she had the gastric emptying study or the Barium swallow to rule out a sticture somewhere? About three years ago they did a GES and she was "slow". Initial doc thought it was caused by celiac. They never did another one.

Is she normal height/weight for her age? 25% for height and 35% for weight (or something close to that).

Any inner ear problems? Vertigo or dizziness? Not that she's ever complained . . . she's got excellent balance . . . always standing on her head while watching TV. I think that would be hard to do with dizziness :P

The one common thing I keep running across is "food allergy" over and over. If there is something getting into her system that she is allergic to, the body's defense is to get rid of it asap. Can be gluten, dairy, or anything else that she may be sensitive to.

Did you google CVS? What did you think?

I did google CVS . . . it seemed a bit extreme (I only know of twice in the last three years where she actually emptied her stomach when it wasn't associated with a stomach bug) but maybe she has that much control over her gag reflex ?? It does seem cyclic but not quite how they describe it. She seems to "ramp" up, all hell breaks loose and then she seems to "ramp" down. I think (and hope) we are currently in a ramp down. If so, I will expect another two day episode in a week or two . . . and so on with them getting farther apart and shorter in duration. That's what happened when she was diagnosed and then went gluten free. I asked about a follow-up GES but since she was no longer having issues, it was deemed caused by gluten and cured by gluten-free.

Here's two more items . . . she gets nauseous on the bus rid home and she gets nauseous in the shower . . . are they related? I have no idea. The bus thing doesn't surprise me, I have always suspected that she gets motion sickness. On long trips, she prefers to just graze/nibble through most of the trip - I think she's trying to give her stomach something to "work" on. I was wondering if the heat in the shower was a yeast/candida kind of thing . . . one of the reasons I started the probiotics. School nurse said her daughter use to get nauseous in the shower too and recommended having her shower with the doors open so the heat doesn't build up (we'll try that the next time and see if it makes a differenc.)

The food allergy thing is very confusing. I have thought that, too and have gone off on what I'm sure my husband thinks are wild goose chases . . . she can be feeling just fine and dandy and eat the things she's eaten for years and all of a sudden she's not feeling well again. Plus, if we are truly in the ramp down portion (similar to when we went through this after diagnoses) we won't really be able to tell - especially as the episodes get farther and farther apart.

How frequently does she get nauseous in the shower? Does she get dizzy too? Can she feel her heart pounding and/or racing heartrate?

How does she do in heat? Standing and or walking around on a really hot day?

After having parked at many places around town for varying periods of time today, I phinally fill up with gas at the service station, go in and pay the cashier, come out, and SOME VARMINT has stolen all my hubcaps :o:unsure:

Go home and fess up to Clay that I was careless enough to let this happen, and he busts out laffin'. "You don't have hubcaps--you have mags!!!!"

But you said recently I had lost a hubcap!! "No, I didn't." Yes, you did.

Look at car. I have mags. So why did he say I lost a hubcap? Oh....Now I remember. T'was off the Toyota... at Tahoe... in July!!!

Skeeter is doing an independent study project (ummm . . .. . . she's nine) . . . she has selected . . . go ahead, take a guess . . . yes, she has selected horses. Something like "the draft horse's role in history". She had originally narrowed it to Clydsedales but I convinced her to expand it to all draft horses so that she wouldn't be doing a presentation on Budweiser beer. As part of the project, she had to interview someone. Her interview was last night. We went to a local "living museum" and talked to the Animal Care Manager - he takes care of all the animals on the farm including 6 horses, two of which were Open Original Shared Link. What a couple of gentle giants (2500 lbs each). Skeeter's interviewee couldn't have been nicer. We were there for an hour and a half. I had a blast . . . Skeeter may have had a good time, too.

Schrume . . . so glad you didn't actually lose yer marbles hubcaps!

Does not complain of anything else in the shower. No problems on hot days. She regurgitated yesterday at the school four times. Sooner than I was expecting but didn't last as long either. Who knows?? Anyhoo . . . nurse told her to spit in the sink so that she could look. She mentioned mucus . . . so that got me thinking. Is she swallowing a lot of mucus. She does not blow her nose. I asked her if she ever feels stuffy and if she can feel anything draining down the back of her throat. She said that she does feel stuffy sometimes and that sometimes her throat feels "sticky" and that sometimes the back of her nose feels funny. I know that when I'm in the shower, it loosens up my sinuses. She has also said that benedry makes her feel better. (Haven't tried benedryl enough for ME to tell if it really makes a difference.) I'm leaning toward a sinus/allergy issue and the mucus makes her stomach upset. Watcha think?

Your Skeeter and my Maddie should hang out, sounds like they are 2 academic peas in a pod!

When you were talking about the mucus/sinus issue, I know it sounded familiar. I read the following in an article about CVS:

What triggers CVS?

Many people can identify a specific condition or event that triggered an episode, such as an infection. Common triggers in children include emotional stress and excitement. Anxiety and panic attacks are more common triggers in adults. Colds, allergies, sinus problems, and the flu can also set off episodes in some people.

Other reported triggers include eating certain foods such as chocolate or cheese, eating too much, or eating just before going to bed. Hot weather, physical exhaustion, menstruation, and motion sickness can also trigger episodes.

I wonder if it's all related....???

I've got it . . . . . . but where the hell did I put it? That was almost three years ago. It's funny you bring it up, because when she was slow to recover from this symptom (about 6-8 months into gluten free) the GI brought up EE again. On our first trip to him prior to any testing, that's what he thought she had.

happygirl Collaborator

In your spare time :) , if you can get it and share (offline is fine) ... very few docs actually perform the testing correctly or interpret the tests correctly. Would hate for it to be ruled out if it wasn't tested accurately, ya know?

Thinking of you both!

Years ago (wow, years ago!) - my favorite quote, from a doctor I highly respect, when I asked him why doctors didn't do <insert multiple test names here> correctly: "They are lazy and don't want to take the time to do it right."

I have yet to figure out the point of doing something if you don't do it right.

Then, docs in general, please don't question me when I grill you as to 1) if you PLAN to do the test correctly and what the standards are and 2) if you actually DID the test correctly.

<end of rant>

Janet - will respond to PM. Enjoy your day "off"!

Should not be a problem except for the most sensitive celiacs. The amount of gluten that would get in the air from cooking alone has got to be miniscule. I would be more concerned about cross contamination happening in other ways in a living environment where others are preparing and consuming gluten-containing foods. Thinks like shared cooking surfaces and countertops. And what about that toaster you mentioned?
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @NCalvo822, Blood tests for Celiac Disease test for antibodies our bodies make in response to gluten exposure.  These Tg IgA 2 antibodies mistakenly attack our own bodies, causing problems in organs and tissues other than just the digestive tract.  Joints can ache, thyroid problems or the pancreas can develop.  Ataxia is just one of over two hundred symptoms of Celiac Disease. Some people with Celiac Disease also make tTg IgA 6 antibodies in response to gluten exposure.  The tTg IgA 6 antibodies attack the brain, causing ataxia.  These tTg IgA 6 antibodies are also found in people with Parkinson's disease, though they may not have Celiac Disease.  First degree relatives (parents, siblings, children) of those diagnosed with Celiac should be tested as well.  Celiac is genetic.  Your mom and sister should be tested for Celiac, too!   Definitely a good idea to keep to a gluten free diet.
    • knitty kitty
@Rebeccaj,  When you smell toast or pasta cooking, that means that particles of that food are floating around in the air.  Airborne gluten can then be inhaled and swallowed, meaning the food particles get into your digestive tract.   If you're careful to avoid gluten and are still having symptoms, those symptoms could be caused by vitamin deficiencies.
    • Rebeccaj
ok thanks for your advice. But my question was what happens when someone you know in a house is cooking pasta or toast that's flour  Airbourne without eating.?
    • knitty kitty
Do discuss this recent article with your doctors.  Thiamine Vitamin B 1 is important to intestinal health.  Thiamine deficiency can occur in Celiac Disease due to malabsorption.  Supplementing with a B Complex, Benfotiamine, and Vitamin D can help symptoms.   Thiamine deficiency aggravates experimental colitis in mice by promoting glycolytic reprogramming in macrophages https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39890689/#:~:text=Our mechanistic study revealed that, necessary to protect against colitis. "Conclusion and implications: Our study provides evidence linking thiamine deficiency with proinflammatory macrophage activation and colitis aggravation, suggesting that monitoring thiamine status and adjusting thiamine intake is necessary to protect against colitis."
