I had some Pacific Rice Milk last night (it has guar gum in it, but says gluten-free) and I also made a batch of Bob's Red Mill brownies.

Anyone had a reaction (like laxative effect, or gluteney?) to Bob's or the ingredient Guar?

I've gotten ill from Bob's Red Mill products before, I think it might be a cc issue with them, they apparently batch test up to so many parts per million, but I fall into that category of super sensitive to minute amounts... Since they do mfr. non gluten-free products I think that is the most likely source. Never had a prob. with guar gum.

Thanks - I just got all sicky feeling after I ate the brownies last night. It was really, really weird.

I know the feeling, I can't do most of Bob's Red mill mixes... I seem to be ok with the baking soda and baking powder from them, but none of the other products sit well with me.

conversely, i also get very ill from a minute amount and have never had problems with anything from bob's gluten-free line (i've never had a pre-made mix though, like the brownies, but i use the flours).

alternatively, i've tried pacific's hazelnut milk and got very, very ill.

I am pretty sure I have been sick from Bob's before. THere has been a thread here about it many times and there were quite a few of us that felt sick after eating his stuff.

Excerpt from page 4 of The Gluten Free Kitchen by Roben Ryberg "Guar gum is known to be a mild laxative. While eating an entire batch of cookies could cause a bit of gastric distress, moderate portions are usually well tolerated." Perhaps it was the guar gum, though I know that Bob's Red Mill has a bad reputation for CC. There are plenty of people that are sensitive to both xantham and guar gums, so perhaps that's the issue?

Interesting that you asked this because I was just reading that page about guar gum last night.

I swear to the good Lord it was the guar gum. I think it totally does have a lax effect on me (I use that Ryberg book all the time!)

P.S. Does anyone know where that Bob's Red Mill series is? I know there have been a few topics on here but every time I put those words into the search function it says I don't have enough letters...erg.

This is really helpful  I had not considered sugar alcohols or inulin as triggers. Thanks for the practical baking tips too color coding and baking G F first makes a lot of sense. Thiamax (TTFD) plus a B-complex, and if you want benfotiamine, the Life Extension formula covers that at ~100 mg.

High fiber can definitely cause sudden GI distress especially if it’s a new addition but accidental gluten exposure can feel similar. Keeping a simple food/symptom log and introducing new gluten-free foods one at a time can really help you spot the pattern. sorry a bit confused so I should take my B complex along with Objective Nutrients Thiamax for TTFD but what about a Benfotiamine to take. The Life extensions contains Benfotiamine and Thiamine together or im confusing myself. I am trying to see if I take Thiamax what should I take for Benfotiamine. Thanks EDITING after further research I see ones water soluble ones fat soluble. So I guess 100MG as you suggested of Life Extension contains Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride. and the Objective Nutrients Thiamax contains TTFD.     would work for me.

I put on over 12kg by eating protein with every meal, 3 to 5 times a day. Eggs, Chicken, Tuna, Turkey etc. I stay away from too much red meat as it can be inflammatory. Scott is correct. I've come across a bunch of Coeliac PT's on Tiktok and Instagram. They all say the same thing, the key is getting enough protein and consistency.
