Help Me Name My Baby!

Guhlia Rising Star

We've pretty much settled on a first name for our baby girl that's coming, but we're unsure of which middle name to use... Our last name is Guhl, so we've had a hard time picking a name since A names, L names, and G names are out (AAG, ALG, AGG).

Here's our list... Pick your favorite and let me know why.

Annika Rose Guhl

Annika Marie Guhl (my middle name, my initials)

Annika Emily Guhl

Annika Emmy Guhl

Annika Evie Guhl

Annika Mackenzie Guhl

Annika Piper Guhl

Annika Mae Guhl

Annika Sierra Guhl

Annika Cadence Guhl

Annika Imogen Guhl (for my MIL, Jean)

Annika Jordin Guhl

Annika Willow Guhl (for my FIL, William)

Annika Ivy Guhl (my top 3, our best friend's middle name)

Annika Eden Guhl (my top 3)

Annika Eva Guhl (my top 3)

I like Ivy!!! What is your middle name??? That's the tradition in my family....First born daighter has mom's middle name. I also like willlow.....both are a little diffrent and not too long!

Well, it's a tie for me- either Annika Rose Guhl or Annika Elise Guhl. What beautiful names. Both of them seem to flow very gracefully across the tongue. I also like the fact that your daughter will not have to endure weird spellings of her middle name, like Roze or Rowze or whatever. I know I rant entirely too much, but as a teacher I can't for the life of me figure out why people take perfectly common names and murder them with bizarre spellings. People forever misspell the kids' names, and the poor kids will have to endure this for the rest of their lives.

I like Annika Jordin. It has a very solid feel to it.

Guhlia....

This is going to hard to decide! They are a good names!!! It's hard to choose! The only way we decided on a name was b/c I was having Braxton-Hicks contractions from 5 months on....so we named our little guy Braxton!LOL

Teacher....I still kick my self for giving my son two middle name....his dad's 1st name and my last are his middle names....his intials are BDTP!!! Try saying that three times fast.

So I know why you're saying no A,L and G middle names!!!

With total rejection of the name "Goose Gulia," my bet is that when you see her for the first time you will know who she is to be. Happy days ahead for you. Best wishes to you and the grand big sister. :)

My wife and I met rock climbing, and enjoy kayaking, skiing etc. We seriously want to name our kids after Rivers or Mountains. (Kern, Whitney, places that are special to us)

We not so seriously want to give our 1st kid the middle name "danger". Danger is his/her middle name!

I think my mom would kill me.

Ok, I have narrowed the list down a little after discussing some of your suggestions with my husband. It's amazing the discoveries you make when you say a certain name over and over again. I deleted a few of the options in the original post because we decided they didn't flow right or we just decided we didn't like them as much as we thought we did.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Keep 'em coming! I really want to have the name picked out by the time we have the nursery done so that we can personalize little things for her and start the baby book.

Angie, I like the way Annika Marie sounds best and also because it is your middle name.

My grandmother's name was Imogene. You don't hear that too often!

I like Annika Mae Guhl best. I don't know... It just seems to work.

Annika Marie jumps out at me! And I really like the ring to it.

Don't know why. Just sounds right.

Good luck! What a fun time!

I'm not suggesting this for your baby, and I am far too old to have a baby myself, but if I weren't, I would name my baby Lily. I don't know why exactly, but I think it's pretty. I have a student named Journey, and I like that one, too.

We have blue carpet in the nursery, so we're doing a floral theme. Target sells the set, it's pink, cream, and blue with vintage floral patterns on it. Very pretty and feminine.

I'm glad you went with that set, Angie. I thought it was very pretty :D

In response to your questions regarding probiotics.  I have had Celiac for 40 years.  Stomach issues: digestion, IBS to chronic constipation, bloat after eating anything.  I was unable to eat a healthy variety of foods, tried probiotics supplements - some made me worse, others made no difference.  After reading about people with Crones, IBS, etc, who made their own probiotics I started making Milk Kefir: not water Kefir. There are 10 probiotics in milk KEFIR. After 3 weeks I was able to eat more, no gas, no IBS.  If you have a computer just ask for videos on making milk Kefir. I branched out and make my own Kombucha for even more probiotics. I do not make my yogurt because there are only about four probiotics in that. I started this when I was 82 and I still make my own Kefir and Kombucha. My stomach issues were fixed with the Milk Kefir alone. If you decide to try making it, make certain you order MILK GRAINS. The finished product tastes a bit like Buttermilk. I hope this helps in your journey to good health.

Help me out here. Lauren Dam gluten-free beer from Spain is listed as gluten free. Yet its made from Barley Malt. I thought barley and any form had gluten. Anybody have any more information about it?

Ferritin levels.  And see what your hemoglobin looks like too, that will tell you if you are anemic?  You can have 'low normal' levels that will not be flagged by blood tests.  I had 'low normal' levels, my lab reading was. c12, just over what was considered normal, but I had small benign lesion on my tongue, and sometimes a sore mouth, and a consultant maxillofacial ordered an iron infusion for me as he felt my levels were too low and if he  raised them to 40, it would help.   Because you are not feeling 100% it might be worth looking at your levels, then discussing with your doctor if they are low normal.  But I stress, don't supplement iron without your levels being monitored, too much is dangerous.

Hi Katht -  I sympathize with your struggles in following a gluten-free diet and lifestyle. I found out that I had Celiac Disease a few months before I turned 70. I just turned 89 and it has taken me almost 20 years to attain a fairly normal intestinal  function. I also lost a lot of weight, down to 100 lb. down from about 140 lb. What Trents wrote you was very true for me. I am still elimination foods from my diet. One person suggested you keep a food diary and that is a good idea but it is probably best just to do an elimination diet. There are several ne and maybe one for celiacs. I used one for a while and started with plain rice and zucchini and then added back other foods to see if I reacted or not. That helped a great deal but what I did not realise that it would only very small amounts of some foods to cause inflammation in my intestine. Within the last few years I have stopped eating any trace amounts of hot peppers, corn and soy(mostly in supplements) and nuts, (the corn in Tylenol was giving me stomach aches and the nuts were causing foot pains). Starting an elimination diet with white rice is better than brown rice that has some natural toxins. In addition it is very important to drink sufficient plain water. You can find out how much to drink for your height and weight online. I do have difficulty drinking 48 ounces of water but just recently have found an electrolyte supplement that helps me stay well hydrated, Adding the water and electrolytes may reduce muscle cramps and gag spams you wrote about. . Also buy some anti-gluten enzyme capsules to take with meals. I use GliadinX advertised here. These are a lot of things to do at one time as they reflect my 20 years of experience. I hope you do what you can manage to do over time. Good luck and take care.
