My Dog Is Lost - I Feel So Awful!

It has been a horrible 28 hours so far - I am told the first 48 are the most critical

I woke up yesterday at 5:00am to my beloved weimerimer having a seizure our hallway, she is only 18 months old, and we've had her since she was only 7 weeks old. My husband and I were watching her come out of it, but my older daughter came out of her bedroom scared and she frightened the dog even more. My dog was so disoriented when she bolted outside, and she didn't even know who we were. I have never seen her run so fast and be so frightened...Our dog has never even been out of our yard. She is so kind, and loving, but afraid of her own shadow. - and followed me everywhere.

We live in a rural area and I have lost dog on the radio, add in the newspaper, drove around handing out flyers with a picture of her, put them up on telephone poles, called the humane society, police, emergency management, our dog catcher, four footed friends, her vet, you name it, I think I have done it. Not a soul has seen her. I am exhausted, and so very, very sad. I even prayed to St Anthony, the saint of lost things....

Our other dog died last year, he was a beautiful American Eskimo dog named Meeko.....he died from kidney failure - only ate dogfood, no table scraps - I was told the dogfood was contaminated - He was just 7 years old. I am not sure I can take this. My head feels like it is going to explode.

I miss my Weimerimer - her name is Emma

My thoughts and hugs are with you, Emma. I know what it is like to lose a beloved family pet, and am hoping that your story has a happy ending.

Emma,

I am so sorry to hear about your puppy. One of my best friends and his wife have two weimerimers, and I love hearing about them. They are really sweet dogs and so beautiful.

It sounds like you've done everything you need to do to bring your dog home. I don't really have anything else to suggest.

Please keep all of us posted. I'll call my friend to see if he has any suggestions since he's had weimerimers for years.

Continue to have hope that Emma will come home. Dogs are smart and they know where their comfort is.

I will help in calling Emma home..

I will keep you posted.

oh gosh- more prayers for you and Emma (my favorite name btw). My BIL'S border collie has seizures but she hasn't bolted. When she comes out of them, she's very confused.

hugs    and prayers calling Emma home!

My girls (dogs) and I are just aching for you, and will say a prayer for Emma's safe return. :( Just keep looking......I"ll tell you a story...

I had the most wondrous cat in the whole world - - a tortoiseshell point Himalayan named Cookie ("Miss Cooks")......she had lived at one home, my childhood home, her entire life. When she was 12, I moved about two miles away, into a little guest house, and didn't take her with me at first. But soon thereafter I brought her there to live with me, and after a day of her PACING and driving me insane, I let her out. Searched and searched...found her soon and took her back to her home. My dad had died, and my mom was living between two places, and so often, no one was at the house.

Well....I couldn't stand it. I brought her back again. Same thing......I let her out....and I wasn't as careful this time, I don't know why. She was gone. Days went by....a week....and then two weeks. I roamed the neighborhood, sobbing......put out hundreds of flyers.....knocked on doors....my heart had literally been ripped from me....I know exactly h ow you feel.

Exactly two weeks later, my mom called, she'd been at home for a couple of days....and said.....you won't believe who's here. The Cookstress had taken two weeks to get there......she was skinny, skittish, scared.......but I got her back.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I moved her in wtih me again, under STRICT supervision, and I had two more beloved years with her, until she died of liver failuer at age 14.

And then I switched to dogs.......dingos, that is. ;) And the rest is history.

I am hoping against hope you'll have a miracle story as I did. Pray HARD.

Sending love.

It was another pretty tuff day without Emma. I drove around most of the day talking to people and handing out and showing her picture to anyone that would look. I even stopped the UPS man, the township guys that ride around all day, and the postman and gave him a flyer to take back to the plant. No luck. It seems as if she left the face of the earth. I did have a false alarm, someone called thought I had lost a chocolate lab.

I hung out the clothes I was wearing today, hoping she might catch the scent. She used to take a shoe of mine or my hubbies to lay with when she napped. She is attached to us as much as were are attached to her.

I also sent any shelters an email with the Emma flyer that I made up on an attachment, still hoping + praying, that is all I can do. My heart is so heavy. I even feel as if I was glutened with my head, but I know that is stress...plus I am not eating, or sleeping very good right now either.

This may seem a bit far fetched, but have you tried the local news station? Maybe the local news station would air a small story about your lost dog on the evening news. Not be to calous but a lost dog that ran away after a seizure, that pulls at heart strings which is what the news wants. Maybe they could help???

Thoughts are with you and Emma

I'm so sorry you haven't found her yet. My pomeranian had a grand mal seizure yesterday followed by a petit mal seizure. That was one of the scariest things I've gone thru! My vet said it's very odd but there have been a lot of dogs having seizures in the last week, said he's never seen anything like this.

He told me that the dog will calm down after the seizure episodes are over and that if my dog should get away, that when he has re-oriented himself, that he'd be looking for home. Vet also said they prefer dark, quiet places when they are in this condition. You might want to check people's garages, sheds, under trees and brush, under porches, etc. that your baby could have taken refuge in.

Most definitely talk to all your neighbors so they can check their property and help out.

Oh sweetie- still praying for Emma's return....I think the local news is a GREAT idea!!!!!!!

I am sp exhausted....

Still no sightings of Emma yet, I am staying positive though. I spent most of the day puttng up flyers, and talking to people. Most schools are out, more kids...maybe she will come out for them, she loves kids, and playing, so new hope. I will be back at it again tomorrow.

While I was putting up the last poster tonight, I slipped on some gravel and feel to the ground...you should have seen, I did recover quite well, but my tape and flyer flew into the air! My knee is a bit scraped up but I was waiting for someone to yell - SAFE

I will try the local news tomorrow, not sure what they will do. I have a lady trying to get a search team out to walk some of the woods here. I think that would be great!! The only reason they are concidering it is because she has seizures.

One more thing to do...I am putting outside the shirt I wore today, hoping she will pick up the scent.

THanks for all the kind thoughts and prayers, we are needing them.

DOG IS FOUND - June 12 - 8:15 pm

Oh my - while we were eating dinner tonight we were saying how our Emma would really love to have some scraps - then the phone rang - We were told they had our dog - the collars matched and she was a weimaraner!!!

Emma had gone onto someones side porch - ate the cat food - then curled up next to their door! She was about 2 miles from the house.

She is exhausted - very thin - and her pads are worn and torn - But she is HOME!!

I have been so sad and depressed without her. While I was so ill, she was my constant compainion!

I feel so lucky to have another day with this wonderful dog!

THANK-YOU ALL for the kind words, and prayers!

I have been following this thread since you lost your dog. I am so happy she is now home where she belongs. Our pets are part of our family and to lose one would be so heartbreaking. We only have one pet, a small toy poodle, but she is loved so much. I don't worry about her getting lose as we have a small gated back yard. But, I do worry about an owl or a hawk taking her away, as we live in Arizona. I get a crink in my neck from looking up when she is in the yard.

I bet she is also happy to be back home and loves all of the loving and attention.

Happy Happy Happy to hear you found your Emma. My boy Jake died last Friday, 2 days after his 8th Birthday. It was awful. I think not knowing would be worse in a way, so I glad you found her and your prayers were answered. My dog had Myasthenia Gravis and had lived 2 years past his diagnoses with lots of medications and even more LOVE. He died in the emergency Vet Clinic after we got back from a vacation at the Outer Banks in NC. At least he got to see the ocean and beach one more time. I think he relapsed, though, because of too much exertion and I feel really guilty about it. I am having a tough time so when I saw your post I went right to it...such a dog lover, anything with Dog gets my attention. I'm very happy for your good ending.

Some interesting articles regarding the use of Zinc Carnosine to help heal gastric ulcers, gastritis and intestinal permeability. I would consult a medical professional about it's use. https://www.nature.com/articles/ncpgasthep0778 https://www.rupahealth.com/post/clinical-applications-of-zinc-carnosine---evidence-review https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7146259/ https://www.fallbrookmedicalcenter.com/zinc-l-carnosine-benefits-dosage-and-safety/

He is. Which makes everything even more difficult. I’m not a believer in “staying for the kids” but I have nowhere to go and it’s not just me, it’s me plus my babies. We live in a beautiful place, lots of land in the country and me and the kids love the place we’ve called home for their entire lives. But Im seeing that he’ll never change, that my kids deserve a happy healthy Momma, and that staying in this as is will be the early death of me. Then I look at the scars covering my entire body…this disease and the chronic stress I’ve been enduring for years that tell me I’m no longer beautiful and no one will ever look at me with interest again. I try self care, try to give myself grace so I can just start loving myself enough to gain strength but the slightest sparkle in my eye and skip in my step attracts his wrath and it all comes crashing ten fold. Life is just absolutely railing me from every single direction leaving me wanting to wave that white flag bc I don’t feel like there’s much hope no matter what happens.

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with Celiac and dermatitis herpetiformis after years of suffering without answers. I lost my mind. I lost my job. I lost so much time. I lost Me. Conventional doctors are opulent come near me and the one who did sat across the room, misdiagnosed me, pumped me full of steroids which collapsed my entire hip for 6 months. So without answers I began my holistic journey. Fast forward a couple of years and still struggling with a mysterious whole body itchy, crawling “skin hell”, perfect teeth now deteriorating, thick hair now thinning rapidly and no more than a day or 2 at most relief….An acquaintance opened up a functional medicine practice. Cash only, I found a way. Within a month tests clearly showing my off the charts gluten allergy/sensitivity as well as the depletion of vital nutrients due to leaky gut and intestinal damage. dermatitis herpetiformis was more than likely what I was experiencing with my skin. I was happy. I thought this is easy, eat healthy Whole Foods, follow the diet restrictions and I finally get to heal and feel confident and like myself again very soon! 😔 Supplements are very pricey but I got them and began my healing. Which leads to the other major issue: not working, stay at home Mom of young kids, entirely financially dependent on my man of 7 plus years. He’s never been supportive of anything I’ve ever done or been thru. He controls everything. I’m not given much money ever at a time and when he does leave money it’s only enough to possibly get gas. His excuse is that I’ll spend it on other things. So my “allowance” is inconsistent and has conditions. He withholds money from me as punishment for anything he wants. Since being diagnosed, he’s gained a new control tactic to use as punishment. He now is in control of when I get to eat. He asked for proof of my diagnosis and diet bc he said I made it up just to be able to eat expensive organic foods. Then after I sent him my file from my doctor he then said she wasn’t a real doctor. 😡. I go days upon days starving, sometimes breaking down and eating things I shouldn’t bc I’m so sick then I pay horribly while he gets annoyed and angry bc I’m not keeping up with all the duties I’m supposed to be doing. His abuse turns full on when I’m down and it’s in these desperate times when I need his support and care the most that I’m punished with silence, being starved, ignored, belittled. He will create more of a mess just bc I’m unable to get up and clean so that when I am better, I’m so overwhelmed with chores to catch up that the stress causes me to go right back into a flare from hell and the cycle repeats. I’m punished for being sick. I’m belittled for starving and asking for healthy clean water. I’m purposely left out of his life. He won’t even tell me he’s going to the grocery or to get dinner bc he doesn’t want me to ask him for anything. I have no one. I have nothing. Im not better. My supplements ran out and I desperately need Vitamin D3 and a methylated B complex at the very minimal just to function….he stares at me blankly…no, a slight smirk, no words. He’s happiest when im miserable and I am miserable.  this is so long and im condensing as much as I can but this situation is so complicated and disgusting. And it’s currently my life. The “IT” girl, the healthy, beautiful, perfect skin, perfect teeth, thick and curly locks for days, creative and talented IT girl….now I won’t even leave this house bc Im ashamed of what this has dont to my body, my skin. Im disgusted. The stress is keeping me from healing and I think he knows that and that’s why he continues to keep me in that state. He doesn’t want me confident or successful. He doesn’t want me healed and healthy bc then how would he put the blame of all his problems on me? This journey has been hell and I’ve been in Hell before. I’ve been killed by an ex, I’ve been raped, robbed, held hostage, abused beyond nightmares but the cruelty I’ve experienced from him bc of this disease is the coldest I’ve ever experienced. I’ve wanted to give up. Starving and in tears, desperate…I found a local food pantry in our small town so I reached out just saying I had Celiac and was on hard times. This woman is blessing me daily with prepared gluten free meals, donations, educational info, people who know this disease and how they manage life and the blessings just keep coming. But it’s overwhelming and I feel like I don’t deserve it at all. He just glared and I know he’s going to sabotage it somehow. I don’t even know what to do anymore. I’m so broken and just want peace and healing.

@Colleen H   I am just curious,  when you were tested for coeliac disease, did the doctors find out if you had any deficiencies? Sometimes muscle pain can be caused by certain deficiencies, for example, magnesium, vitamin D, calcium, and potassium.   Might be worth looking into having some more tests.  Pins and needles can be neuropathy, again caused by deficiencies, such as iron and B12,  which can be reversed if these deficiencies are addressed. In the UK where I live we are usually only tested for iron, B12 and vitamin D deficiencies at diagnosis.   I was very iron anemic and supplementation made a big difference.  B12 was low normal, but in other countries the UK's low normal would be considered a deficiency.  My vitamin D was low normal, and I've been supplementing ever since (when I remember to take it!) My pins and needles definitely started to improve when my known deficiencies were addressed.  My nutritionist also gave me a broad spectrum supplement which really helped, because I suspect I wasn't just deficient in what I mention above but in many other vitamins and minerals.  But a word of warning, don't take iron unless blood tests reveal you actually need it, and if you are taking it your levels must be regularly monitored because too much can make you ill.  (And if you are currently taking iron, that might actually be making your stomach sore - it did mine, so my GP changed my iron supplementation to a gentler form, ferrous gluconate). Lastly, have you been trying to take anything to lessen the pain in your gut?  I get a sore stomach periodically, usually when I've had too much rich food, or when I have had to take an aspirin or certain antibiotics, or after glutening.  When this happens, I take for just a few days a small daily dose of OTC omeprazole.  I also follow a reflux or gastritis diet. There are lots online but the common denominators to these diets is you need to cut out caffeine, alcohol, rich, spicy, acidic food etc and eat small regularly spaced meals.   When I get a sore stomach, I also find it helpful to drink lots of water.  I also find hot water with a few slices of ginger very soothing to sip, or camomile tea.  A wedge pillow at night is good for reflux. Also,  best not to eat a meal 2-3 hours before going to bed. If the stomach pain is getting worse, though, it would be wise to see the doctor again. I hope some of this helps. Cristiana
