Blessings on your birthday Deb!

Dear Deb,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! Sorry it is belated! :( I just saw the thread! How are you doing? I know you were having a rough time of it the last I wrote you. Did you do anything special yesterday?

Sincerely,

Jin

darlindeb25 Collaborator

Thank you for the good wishes.

No Jin--nothing, just worked. My family is all 800 miles away, kind of a sad day for me. Birthday's are not to be had alone and thanks to all of you, you have brightened the day for me. ;)

NoGluGirl Contributor

Dear Deb,

How sucky is that?! :( Everyone being so far away on your special day is so lousy. I am going to make you an e-cake!

Gluten-free of course! Plus, it cannot make you fat or hurt your stomach! ;)

Can you see it? The skinny part at the top is the lit candle. The part with the 0s is the icing. Then, then 1s are the cake. Oh, and you are 25 this year, in case you were wondering! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Sincerely,

Jin

P.S. When I posted it, it did not look like a cake! It did before I posted it!

Silly--it's the best cake anyone has made me since going gluten free--thank you very much!

Jin,

You are such a sweetheart :D

NoGluGirl Contributor

Dear Deb,

I am so glad you liked my cake! :) It could be a World Trade Center cake! We will rise again! B) You sure are wise beyond your years for 25! What a coincidence that we both are turning 25 in the same year!

Dear Patti,

Thank you for the compliments! You are sweet, too! :D Isn't it wonderful we can share birthdays together? Our family here is the best! Plus, it is for the better health of all!

Sincerely,

Jin

THERE WILL BE A SPECIAL PLACE IN HEAVEN FOR YOU

THAT CAKE WAS SUCH A SWEET THING TO DO..........BUT THAT'S OUR JIN.

SORRY YOU WERE ALONE DEB.............I WAS FOR MY 50TH ONE TOO.

Jin, did I misunderstand you? Do you think I am 25, God bless you!!!!! I am 52 now--my daughter in the pic with me will be 25 on Tuesday though!!!!!!! She was due on my birthday, but just didn't want to be born on that day!

NoGluGirl Contributor

Dear Judy,

Thank you so much! :) It must have been terrible being alone on your 50th! You know, I met the Pope, sort of. After Pope John Paul II died, I had a dream. The thing is, it was not just a dream. I know I was up in heaven with the light. There was no floor, just radiant white light, and Pope John Paul II was standing there with his arms open as if he were going to hug me. The feeling was amazing, and indescribable! HUGS!

Dear Deb,

I decided you were 25 this year! Youth is a state of mind. It is in your soul! :) You are only old if you say so, and if you believe so! Whether you are 52 or 22, age is a number. This has nothing to do with your self worth, only a measure of how long you have been on the planet physically. ;) HUGS!

Sincerely,

Jin

You've been missed larry mac. Hope you are doing better, and a belated birthday to you!

NoGluGirl Contributor

Dear Deb,

You are so welcome! ;) My grandmother always said she was too old for everything. I do not want other people doing that! It makes you old! That is like the self-fulfilling prophecy we learned of in our Interpersonal Communications class. My grandmother now has Alzheimer's. I do not want anyone to end up like that!

Dear larrymac,

How awful about the accident! Are you alright? I am sorry to hear you had to be in the hospital. Being there is never any fun. It is great you are home again.

Dear Goosey,

Hello to you! How are you? I am glad you seem to be well. The meet-up with tom and some of the others the other week sounded wonderful! I wish I could have been there, too!

Sincerely,

Jin

Hi Larry Mac,

I wondered what happened to you. So sorry to hear about your accident.

Belated Happy Birthday :)

Thank you mg, ja, & ngg,

Yes ngg, I am alright. However, I have a metal plate and screws holding the bones together in my left arm, a banged up left knee, and assorted bruises and boo boo's. I have absolutely no memory of the accident, I woke up in the ambulance. Funny thing though, the responding officers say I was awake the whole time. Guess I was in shock.

Apparently there was an SUV that made a sudden illegal right turn from the middle lane. Unfortunately, I was in the right lane. There was a brief battle and I lost. She received a traffic citation, I got 4 days in the hospital and 2 surgeries. My wife say

Lm--

How awful....thank goodness you're ok now. Can't say I blame your wife at all ;)

It was probably the heavy pain meds that kept you from having D from the questionable hospital food--they are terribly constipating. I was on them during and after a 2 day hospitalization in January and didn't feel the need to go for 6 days.

Take care :)

In response to your questions regarding probiotics.  I have had Celiac for 40 years.  Stomach issues: digestion, IBS to chronic constipation, bloat after eating anything.  I was unable to eat a healthy variety of foods, tried probiotics supplements - some made me worse, others made no difference.  After reading about people with Crones, IBS, etc, who made their own probiotics I started making Milk Kefir: not water Kefir. There are 10 probiotics in milk KEFIR. After 3 weeks I was able to eat more, no gas, no IBS.  If you have a computer just ask for videos on making milk Kefir. I branched out and make my own Kombucha for even more probiotics. I do not make my yogurt because there are only about four probiotics in that. I started this when I was 82 and I still make my own Kefir and Kombucha. My stomach issues were fixed with the Milk Kefir alone. If you decide to try making it, make certain you order MILK GRAINS. The finished product tastes a bit like Buttermilk. I hope this helps in your journey to good health.

Help me out here. Lauren Dam gluten-free beer from Spain is listed as gluten free. Yet its made from Barley Malt. I thought barley and any form had gluten. Anybody have any more information about it?

Ferritin levels.  And see what your hemoglobin looks like too, that will tell you if you are anemic?  You can have 'low normal' levels that will not be flagged by blood tests.  I had 'low normal' levels, my lab reading was. c12, just over what was considered normal, but I had small benign lesion on my tongue, and sometimes a sore mouth, and a consultant maxillofacial ordered an iron infusion for me as he felt my levels were too low and if he  raised them to 40, it would help.   Because you are not feeling 100% it might be worth looking at your levels, then discussing with your doctor if they are low normal.  But I stress, don't supplement iron without your levels being monitored, too much is dangerous.

Hi Katht -  I sympathize with your struggles in following a gluten-free diet and lifestyle. I found out that I had Celiac Disease a few months before I turned 70. I just turned 89 and it has taken me almost 20 years to attain a fairly normal intestinal  function. I also lost a lot of weight, down to 100 lb. down from about 140 lb. What Trents wrote you was very true for me. I am still elimination foods from my diet. One person suggested you keep a food diary and that is a good idea but it is probably best just to do an elimination diet. There are several ne and maybe one for celiacs. I used one for a while and started with plain rice and zucchini and then added back other foods to see if I reacted or not. That helped a great deal but what I did not realise that it would only very small amounts of some foods to cause inflammation in my intestine. Within the last few years I have stopped eating any trace amounts of hot peppers, corn and soy(mostly in supplements) and nuts, (the corn in Tylenol was giving me stomach aches and the nuts were causing foot pains). Starting an elimination diet with white rice is better than brown rice that has some natural toxins. In addition it is very important to drink sufficient plain water. You can find out how much to drink for your height and weight online. I do have difficulty drinking 48 ounces of water but just recently have found an electrolyte supplement that helps me stay well hydrated, Adding the water and electrolytes may reduce muscle cramps and gag spams you wrote about. . Also buy some anti-gluten enzyme capsules to take with meals. I use GliadinX advertised here. These are a lot of things to do at one time as they reflect my 20 years of experience. I hope you do what you can manage to do over time. Good luck and take care.
