How Is Jerry?

Hey, I just stopped by to say hi. It really has been a year since I was here.

I continue to enjoy the gluten-free free lifestyle. Pretty much symptom free.

In the past year my twin brother has been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia but still refuses to go gluten-free.

I run 8-10 miles most days with no Fibro symptoms :D

I see some of the same people are still here, so I'll try to stop by more often, assuming anyone

remembers me.

(I don't remember this site having this horrendous green background color...what's up with that?)

jk

Has it really been a year, seriously...time sure does fly. Glad to hear you are doing well.

The green actually got toned down a little from the original change, if memory serves me. Lot's of cool changes on the home page too so be sure to check it out.

Hi Jerry--good to see you again! :D

Thanks for the update--can't believe it's been a year...wow.

Yes, by all means stay in touch and drop by when you can. Scott upgraded the site a while ago and we got the new green trim. We've welcomed lots of new members in the past year, but there are still quite a few of us old regulars, too.

Hi Jerry,

I'm glad to hear from you and glad that you are doing well. We have a few "non-believers" here that could use your sage advise. ;):D

Hi, Jerry, good to see you. A year goes by so quickly.

I remember you as the guy who takes awesome photos. I'm glad you're still doing well.

Hi, Glad to hear that things are going well for you. I wondered what happened to you. I was almost going to post "Where's Jerry?"

Hi Jerry, good to see you back, and hearing you are doing well! I can't believe that your twin brother is still, after all this time, stubbornly holding out. I guess he likes being in pain.

I can't believe it has been a year, time just flies by.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
