I have a lot of family back home in nepa getting ready. My brother stocked up on beer. They won't be hit hard but they always lose power for a week or two in bad storms.

!!!!!!

There is flooding in downtown Norfork VA :(

Yup, tunnels are closed and lots of street flooding.

!

That is not good, if those are the tunnels i'm thinking of (right by the base). Part of my family lives not to far from there....

Don't forget to unplug things like TV's, computers (or disconnect power strip), fridges etc. I stocked up on wood for the woodstove but a freind said last night he has a gas stove and a gas heater and we can head over there if we lose power so I will spend this morning getting the dog's crate and other needed stuff like PJs, meds etc packed up to put in the car if needed. Please everyone stay safe and do check on your elderly or infirm neighbors if worst comes to worst. Well off to back up all the files on my computer.

In Michigan we are having some rain, cold temperatures and high wind and wave warnings. (60 miles per hour windsin some areas) This storm is HUGE!

Red Cross volunteers from Michigan have headed out this morning. Just letting you know that help is on the way! Stay safe!

Darn210 Enthusiast

Just want to wish all you Easterners good luck and Stay Safe!!! We are apparently sending power crews your way.

GFinDC Veteran

More storm info. Thanks for the power help and Red Cross. Sounds like we are going to need them.

I heard on the radio that about 50,000 people in CT are already out of power.

Someone posted on Facebook a picture of one of those big trampolines up in

the air hung on power lines. Since some dingbat didnt understand the meaning

of 'batten down the hatches!'

Thus far, the biggest impact the storm has had on me is boredom. Everyone's

too busy to play!

Too busy to play footsie Mz. Toes? Oh the horror! :D Now if you ever change your avatar in the future this will make no sense to people.

GeeEff, can you tell us what is happening in DeeCee??

Doesnt CT count as eastern seaboard?!?! I suppose we won't get hit as bad

as those farther south though. Thus far, it has been loud, windy, and rainy.

Sounds about like a hurricane. Couple flickers for me in the power, but no

loss as of yet. I think we might be in the clear, supposed to be more about

rain now, and I'm too high elevation to worry about flooding.

Lisa Mentor

The Outer Banks got slammed. It's so so sad. Sandy was going very slow and just lashed the beach. We, 60 miles inland got rain for three days and moderate winds. I've never felt so lucky, with such destruction all around me.

Patti has just lost power, cable and all. Hopefully Sandy is "truckin'" and will leave quickly.

(I wish I knew how to post photo's from FB here)

Be safe out there.

mushroom Proficient

Glad to hear you two are okay. Hope Patti is too

Two reports of lost power near here. I am just north of Toronto, but my brother is in the east part of the old city, and is in the dark. Another friend in the mid-city area has also lost power. Flooding is not a problem, but in older parts of the city, power lines are overhead and wind brings down trees. Where I am, local distribution lines are underground, bu high-voltage lines are above ground. The long-range ones are really high voltage on pylons in cleared, dedicated paths. But the mid-range ones are on wooden poles parallel to arterial roads.

I have battery backup for some key network components, so I may be able to send a notice if we lose power here. But if it happens while I am asleep, I may sleep through it and wake up to find everything dead.

mushroom Proficient

Then you'd better stay up, Peter!! Cos if everything's dead, how will you wake up???

Still up for the moment. It rained heavily for about an hour this afternoon, letting up about nine hours ago. The wind is the worry at the moment, with strong winds gusting to 60 mph overnight.

Hey Shroomster,

What's a happening? Well, its a hurrycane. Lots of wind and rain in spurts. I checked the front door a few hours ago and it was actually a little hard to get it closed again. Strong winds ya know. There are reports of trees down and some flooding around the area. I don't think the flooding is too major but we won't know for sure until dayight. Alexandria, VA is the most likely to have major flooding since it is low lying to the river. Power is out for some people in VA and MD. Some trees in DC decided to move in with their nearest neighbors, houses. Delaware is probably quite a mess tho and the Maryland shore. Capital Hill (where I live) seems to be ok for the most part. Still have power and just a few flickers on it so far. Seems like it is tapering off now tho. I think the storm is moving North to visit Peotr's brother. Sure is a big one!

bartfull Rising Star

Talked to a friend in Eastern Connecticut (where I used to live), and he said the power never even flickered. He has a few TWIGS down in his yard, but that's it. Looks like my friends back there got off easy. Phew! I feel better already.

Darn210 Enthusiast

Reports from two Brothers-In-Law . . . One in Rhode Island: Water came to about an inch below his front door but never made it in to his cottage. No power and not expecting any for awhile . . . just grateful his furniture/belongings/home are OK. Second in Virginia: No power but they have a generator. They are out in the country, lost several trees which damaged their fencing but not their house.

JNBunnie1 Community Regular

Old, crappy fence is down in backyard, few twigs, that's it. I may

venture out shortly to see how my town fared. There's definitely a

few towns in CT that will be out of power for a while.

dcns65 Apprentice

In our ME town I think I our road was the only one to lose power! In CT, my mom is fine, my sister and brother who live next door to each other are without power and my other sister is without power. My sister and brother will probably be out the longest.

mommida Enthusiast

In Michigan... A road was closed when I was out. A lot of strange debri in the road. Power has been flickering.

Definitely get vitamin D 25(OH)D.  Celiac Disease causes vitamin D deficiency and one of the functions of vitamin D is modulating the genes.  While we can survive with low vitamin D as an adaptation to living in a seasonal environment, the homeostasis is 200 nmol/L.  Vitamin D Receptors are found in nearly every cell with a nucleus, while the highest concentrations are in tissues like the intestine, kidney, parathyroid, and bone.  A cellular communication system, if you will. The vitamin D receptor: contemporary genomic approaches reveal new basic and translational insights  Possible Root Causes of Histamine Intolerance. "Low levels of certain nutrients like copper, Vitamins A, B6, and C can lead to histamine build up along with excess or deficient levels of iron. Iodine also plays a crucial role in histamine regulation."

I forgot to mention my suspicion of the high amount of glyphosate allowed to be used on wheat in USA and NZ and Australia. My weight was 69kg mid-2023, I went down to 60kg in March 2024 and now hover around 63kg (just after winter here in NZ) - wheat-free and very low alcohol consumption.

Hi Jess Thanks so much for your response and apologies for the long delay in answering. I think I must have been waiting for something to happen before I replied and unfortunately it fell off the radar... I have had an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy in the meantime (which revealed 'minor' issues only). Yes I do think histamine intolerance is one of the problems. I have been lowering my histamine intake and feeling a lot better. And I do think it is the liver which is giving the pain. I am currently taking zinc (I have had three low zinc tests now), magnesium, B complex, vitamin E and a calcium/Vitamin C mix. I consciously think about getting vitamin D outside. (Maybe I should have my vitamin D re-tested now...) I am still 100% gluten-free. My current thoughts on the cause of the problems is some, if not all, of the following: Genetically low zinc uptake, lack of vitamin D, wine drinking (alcohol/sulphites), covid, immune depletion, gastroparesis, dysbiosis, leaky gut, inability to process certain foods I am so much better than late 2023 so feel very positive 🙂

Hi and thank you very much for your detailed response! I am so glad that the protocol worked so well for you and helped you to get your health back on track. I've heard of it helping other people too. One question I have is how did you maintain your weight on this diet? I really rely on nuts and rice to keep me at a steady weight because I tend to lose weight quickly and am having a hard time envisioning how to make it work, especially when not being able to eat things like nuts and avocados. In case you have any input, woud be great to hear it! Friendly greetings.

I was not taking any medications previous to this. I was a healthy 49 yo with some mild stomach discomfort. I noticed the onset of tinnitus earlier this year and I had Covid at the end of June. My first ‘flare-up’ with these symptoms was in August and I was eating gluten like normal. I had another flare-up in September and then got an upper endo at the end of September that showed possible celiac. My blood test came a week later. While I didn’t stop eating gluten before I had the blood test, I had cut back on food and gluten both. I had a flare-up with this symptoms after one week of gluten free but wasn’t being crazy careful. Then I had another flare-up this week. I think it might have been caused by Trader Joe’s baked tofu which I didn’t realize had wheat. But I don’t know if these flare-ups are caused by gluten or if there’s something else going on. I am food journaling and tracking all symptoms. I have lost 7 pounds in the last 10 days.
